Joe. Posted 5 August 2009 Posted 5 August 2009 Plenty of players have great goasl-scoring records at youth level and then don't make the step up. We're doing the right thing with Kee, this is the next step up to see if he can really mix it with the men.
tommytibbs Posted 5 August 2009 Posted 5 August 2009 cant imagine waghorns wages are that high or that we willbe paying too much if anything to have him here so cant be a bad move for some back up to the squad and Pearson doesnt make a signing lightly so pretty pleased to have him here. welcome waggy and good luck!

That kee at 18 is too young to be given a chance, at his own club, but that waghorn, at 19, is good enough. What about chambers, at 19, has he really been given a chance? All im saying is, if we`re going to give a chance to young up and coming players, i would rather we gave our own the chance first. I was at the oldham game, in 1979, when we had Dave Buchanon, at 16, and Gary Lineker, at 18, make theyre debut, and the following game we gave Andy Peake his debut, at 17. It was a breath of fresh air, and the experience they got that season, undoubtedly helped them, in our promotion season the following year. Certainly didnt hurt Lineker making his debut at 18, did it, although if you had been at that game, you would have felt that Buchanon was the most likely to make it, out of him and Lineker.
C-man Posted 5 August 2009 Posted 5 August 2009 I'd prefer it if we signed Hamilton Ricard. I heard he's likely to be out of prison soon....

They're given their chance at the training ground everyday. If Pearson (who sees them play everyday unlike us) thinks they need more time, but his staff (who have seen Waghorn play a lot more than us) thinks he is ready, then I would have to trust their judgement. Its not simply about age.
Leicfox Posted 6 August 2009 Posted 6 August 2009 Carlisle manager Greg Abbott has confirmed that Leicester have signed Sunderland striker Martyn Waghorn on loan from under his nose. The 19-year-old was all set to link up with the League One side after Black Cats boss Steve Bruce had given him permission to leave the Stadium of Light to gain some more first-team football this season following a seven-game stint at Charlton last term. However, Abbott has revealed that Waghorn will be joining the Foxes instead. "I am massively disappointed," Abbott told the News and Star. "It was a target we have been keeping warm all summer but now he is going to a Championship club. "We got a firm 'go-ahead' from his manager and I spoke to the player yesterday. He was almost apologetic when he said he had to take the opportunity to play in a higher division than ourselves. "We wish him all the best and thank his club for giving us the opportunity to speak to him. But I am extremely frustrated and more disappointed than the fans can possibly be about this." http://www.eatsleepsport.com/sunderland/fo...bid-928458.html From reading that above it seems he was on the verge of going to Carisle, so there wasn't any other Championship teams after him. It all looks abit desperate to me but, i hope the boy comes good.
Candidcamera Posted 6 August 2009 Posted 6 August 2009 I think you have to look at the need of the team and it may be that this is type of forward we need. The style will be same to a large extent except Wellens will make a big difference and may spot a forward making runs. Chambers is small and needs to be fed the ball. The team may adapt if he can break into the 1st team. Heresay is that he has got the talent.
mmarkie Posted 6 August 2009 Posted 6 August 2009 Hmmmm... Wander what's taking this one so long to be confirmed.

Guest Posted 6 August 2009 Posted 6 August 2009 Do people actually listen to this during the day? I don't know why I should have to explain myself, but no I don't, however when I read in the Mattock thread that it had been said that he'd handed in a transfer request, I thought I'd listen to the news. Sorry if I am not as sad as you would like to think.
