It's all about the approach to the game for me. This is extremely important. We're well capable of a win there and I think we're better than we're making ourselves out to be. Another 2-1 victory.

Championship Game of the Weekend - Newcastle vs Reading - 5.20pm SKY The lowdown Back to winning ways, sort of. Town’s youngsters needed penalties to get past Shrewsbury but once again it was a convincing performance which wouldn’t produce the goals when we wanted them. However, we’re through and it’s Peterborough next up at London Road, and with a little more practice together, the youths could perhaps take Town through to round three. It’s back to the league on Saturday though with the first home match of the season. With 16,000 season tickets sold and lots more expected to buy individual tickets for Keane’s home opener you can predict an attendance of over 24,000. The stats It’s still hard to work out how teams are playing at this early stage in the season. But having convincing been crowned Champions of League 1, Leicester have continued their good form back into the Championship with a 2-1 opening day win. Town’s reported summer target, Dany N’Guessan scored what proved to be the winning goal against a side much weakened from last season, Swansea City. Following the match, Foxes boss Nigel Pearson had this to say… "We expect big things from ourselves this year, but you have to say there must be a dozen clubs who think they've got a chance to be in the mix at the end of the season. "I thought we deserved the win although we caused ourselves problems in the first half when we conceded a goal from a set-play." Very ambitious words from the Leicester boss which clearly show that they will be no pushover on Saturday. Leicester followed up this victory, which places them 4th in the league, with a comfortable 2-0 win at Macclesfield in the League Cup on Wednesday evening. Using a full strength side they saw N’Guessan score once again with a back-heel while dangerman striker, Matty Fryatt score with a powerful shot having schooled a defender. Their pre-season went well playing two of Town’s recent opponents. A 4-0 win at Shrewsbury and a 1-0 win at home against Real Valladolid rounded off the season. The player-to-watch It’s a tough one between Wednesday night’s two goalscorers – N’Guessan and Fryatt. Fryatt is a speedy, skilful player with an eye for goal. He’s a young lad who’s been terrific for Leicester for the last 3 seasons now and has been subject to many bids from many different clubs. However, due to Ipswich showing some interest towards winger Dany N’Guessan I’m going to sight him as the dangerman. An attacking player by nature he is often found on the left hand side of the pitch. The 6ft1in, French 21-year-old spent 2 years at Lincoln City where he scored 14 goals in 73 appearances before being snapped up by Leicester for a reported £400,000 which is a bargain for a player of his quality in the current inflated footballer prices. The team news Ipswich - Civelli, Counago and Thatcher remain out with injuries - Norris looks to have joined the list with a long-term knee injury caused by Stead. - Priskin, Delaney, Healy, Martin and Colback could all make competitive home debuts. - Ipswich captain Gareth McAuley will return from his midweek international match with Northern Ireland to face his former side, Leicester, for the first time since leaving them last summer. Leicester - Nat Brown and captain Sean Hessey could miss out. The man in the middle Referee Phil Crossley sent off Danny Haynes at Brentford on Tuesday for two yellow cards in his Bristol’s 1-0 victory. Crossley’s first game of the season was to see a goal-less draw between Reading and Forest where he also handed out a red card. So his form guide tells us to expect another sending off on Saturday! He last officiated a Town game when we drew 1-1 at home to Blackpool near the end of last season. Hatch’s final word The quality of football is definitely there and has improved since Magilton’s final few games. I sat back and enjoyed watching Town’s second half against Coventry where we saw chance after chance go begging. You can definitely expect to enjoy the football on Saturday, whether it will be a win or not is another question. Leicester are looking good and no fan should go to the game expecting an easy win against a team that’s new to the league. I still think we’re warming into the season and Keane’s style of play. I usually predict like an optimist but for this game I’m going to take a slightly more realist approach. The reason for these choices is that I was entrusted by the PGMOL to have the attributes, man management skills and ability to cope with the various demands placed upon an official for such prestigious games. What are your aims as a National List Referee? To Referee in a consistently good manner with the hopes of again receiving Premiership games in the future as well as being involved the important end of season games. What skills do you think you need to become a referee? Dedication, Fitness, Self belief and strong man management skills Who has been the biggest influence in your career and why? Initially my local County FA (London) then peers and the PGMOL. For the initial training and then the subsequent continued education in trying to become better each and every game. In your opinion who is/was the best referee? Impossible to say, referees have to have many attributes no one referee has them all therefore the best would be someone who could incorporate the best of the best. Fan-terview coming soon...

Bit of a selection headache for our great leader. Big game, need big players. Neilson might as well play, must be fresh. Oakley and Wellens sounded like a good combo last night. It's precisely this attitude against us that will see us go and win games and 'surprise' more than a fair share of teams/fans this season. We are better now than we were two seasons ago - even if we have 'untested players' at this level.

Fan-terview Hey Tom, how did you pre-season go? Pre-season was decent with victories against some solid lower-league teams at cramped grounds and a result against a hard-to-gauge Real Valladolid side. And what has impressed you about your opening two wins? The most pleasing thing has been the team ethos displayed in both attack and defence. Towards the end of last season we lost our way a bit in terms of passing and movement and were reliant on Steve Howard's physicality to drag us over the line. This term we seem to be playing as nicely as we ever did last season right from the off. That's not to say Steve Howard won't still be a threat - his aerial threat is a huge asset and even with the ball on the floor the beautiful weighting of his passes sometimes makes him resemble a burly Michael Carrick (maybe). What is your squad's main strength? Our first eleven is quite consistently decent but the defence is probably the classiest area. We have strength in depth in this department too, perhaps best illustrated in Patrick Kisnorbo, a former player of the year of ours, being allowed to leave during the summer to little complaint from the fans. What is your squad's main weakness? If we're pressed well and Howard is well marked by a tough defender we can struggle to retain possession and impose ourselves on games. How do you view Ipswich Town? I think a lot of fans, both of Leicester and other clubs, are glad that they're getting to play Ipswich early, because there seems to be a view that you'll improve under him throughout the season and should be looking for a play-off place at least come May. If you could have any Ipswich player - who would it be and why? I honestly don't think there's an Ipswich player who would significantly improve our first 11, (nor visa versa) so probably Gareth McAuley to remind us what good business it was selling him to you. What do you think about our stadium, Portman Road? I always prefer a good old expanded 4-sided stadium to bowls, but I've not been and can't really offer an opinion. Not a real fan, me, obviously. How well will Leicester and Ipswich do this season? I see both Leicester and Ipswich as solid teams with decent squads whose respective managers will prove the difference. Ipswich should be looking to be around the play-offs if they can get on a run and/or make a couple of quality signings in January. Leicester benefit from lower expectations and I think most of us would be happy to consolidate - 10th would be a good finish for us and give us the optimism to push on next season, but 4 places either side of this isn't unrealistic. Cheers, and finally, what's your match prediction for Saturday? I'm predicting an exciting 1-1 draw with quite a few chances for most teams

Many people sitting on the fence with a draw. To be fair though, this is probably realistic. Would take it now if it was offered wouldn't we? Having said that, the thought of beating a team managed by Roy Keane is very apealling indeed!

cecchini Posted 14 August 2009 Posted 14 August 2009 We don't usually do well against these guys. To be honest I am not confident but i haven't seen us play yet, so I think a draw but would be more surprised by a win than a loss. If we win - it will make for a great omen for the rest of the season.
