CosbehFox Posted 14 August 2009 Posted 14 August 2009 Seriously I've been away games on and off since 1995 and never had a real problem. That's not on the protection of Fox Travel either...driving up most of the time. Although defo if you go on the train, the opportunity of being in a bad situation is more likely. Had the odd bloke shouting off and silly comments but never an act of violence. If you're with a young children, you'll be fine. If you go looking for it, you'll find it esp. at Sheffield United. If you wear no colours and don't going shouting stuff from the rooftops, you'll have no problem.
Tommeh Posted 14 August 2009 Posted 14 August 2009 What we got at sheff u last time we deserved 60 odd of us marching round like we owned the place singing sitting down in the street taking the piss out of uniteds support etc. The police however were wankers towards us as we got bricked and if anything were the vulnerable ones going past that pub. If you go on fox travel you will avoid all trouble full stop.
maddog Posted 14 August 2009 Posted 14 August 2009 I've not been to that many away games probably 25 ish tops in my lifetime, and have NEVER really seen any trouble. But most away fans are friendly, i remember chatting to Chelsea fans on the tube when going to that incredible match and having a good long talk about Mourinho and Chelsea and how Leicester were going to win that night, but they were probably friendly because they felt sorry for Leicester fans Even Derby fans joke about how they are sheep.
CosbehFox Posted 14 August 2009 Posted 14 August 2009 But most away fans are friendly, Bit over the top there.
maddog Posted 14 August 2009 Posted 14 August 2009 Bit over the top there. Possibly. Theres obviously a fair few trouble making fans but i haven't come across them yet.
CosbehFox Posted 14 August 2009 Posted 14 August 2009 Infact one moment does come to mind and that was Forest. Right edgy atmosphere that day....just went into admin and then conceded a 97th minute equaliser. The only time I've ever felt like crying about Football. Being one of the first in this generation of Football to go into admin, I was a bit worried within two months we wouldn't have a team and these worries were part-confirmed in that we laid off some staff on the Friday. Quite emotional day really.
nuttytimmy Posted 14 August 2009 Posted 14 August 2009 Went to Tranmere last season and anticipated a certain amount of trouble, but all I got was friendly banter in the pub across the road from the ground. Had a few issues walking back to the train station, both nothing major and once back on the train only a bit of banter. I doubt there'll be many problems in Sheffield, but I've never been so I can't say for sure.
Daggers Posted 14 August 2009 Posted 14 August 2009 But most away fans are friendly They just don't know you well enough.
Shrenchel Posted 15 August 2009 Posted 15 August 2009 They just don't know you well enough. Haha. Kudos. Ridiculous thread though. What rock have you been cotching under for the last 10 years?!
markbsac Posted 15 August 2009 Author Posted 15 August 2009 Why are you so obsessed with trouble at games? If it's not starting unnecessary threads about a scuffle outside the ground on Saturday, it's now this. If it's a genuine enquiry, and not coincidental, then surely exercising common sense is the order of the day. Even when there was trouble at games, it could be avoided if you took the time and effort. lisa....i must just be one of the unlucky ones in life..ive seen quite a lot of trouble at away grounds and infact quite a bit at the walkers sitting in N block when we all come out together..the posting about swansea was from another board so i posted it on here as you normally get some truth in what went off. common sense will prevail im 46 not a kid but i want my son to feel safe...living in loughborough im not going to travel to the walkers to get fox travel. i have seen a lot of trouble at away games in the past thats why i stopped going..and i dont want my lad to see the same. and as one poster said i may be a little paranoid as i went to a lot of away games in the 70s as a kid myself..and us older ones know what that was like !
markbsac Posted 15 August 2009 Author Posted 15 August 2009 Might help if you want to be safe. quite funny that as thats now what i do as a living...never take work to football though ! <_<

You sure you havent been following Millwall by mistake? Ive been taking my kids away on my own since theyve been knee high and theyve never felt unsafe (Ive just asked them) Coach got bricked at Barnsley a few seasons back but even that wasnt particularly scary it didnt shatter completely. If youre not going on the coach then no one will even know what team youre supporting if you dont wear colours or shout your mouth off.
Ashley Posted 15 August 2009 Posted 15 August 2009 Dont wear colours and travel on the coaches if your worried too? Youll be safe as houses then. South Yorkshire police are notoriously shite Wearing colours is more of a safer option than not wearing colours...

Surely if you wanted to be completely safe it would be an option. Being as Sheffield is to the North, you'd be going past the Walkers, or Leicester, rather, to get to Sheffield. It's not exactly "out of the way".
Toby or not Toby Posted 15 August 2009 Posted 15 August 2009 Should be fine, I lived in bramall court(10 seconds from the ground) last year and there wasn't even any trouble when it was the steel city derby.

Jay Posted 15 August 2009 Posted 15 August 2009 so i drive from loughborough to leicester (south) the coach drives by loughborough going (north) on the way back we drive by the loughborough junction to go to leicester (south) then when i get to leicester i have to drive (north) back up to loughborough.......i dont think so really ! ill go in me car and take the risk ! you will be fine, you will have no problems at all just make sure your car isn't filled with Leicester City stickers etc The biggest and toughest firm in Yorkshire is the South Yorkshire Police Force they have everything under control, and not always from a good point of view. driven loads of times and never encountered any trouble if you were a young lad drinking, singing and walking back to the train station however south yorkshire police will help you on the way as people have previously experienced

When you say you've 'seen' a lot of trouble what do you consider trouble? Compared to the 70's and 80's there isnt any, british grounds are the safest in the world so if you dont feel safe in britain you wont feel safe anywhere.

There's been very little trouble at games in the past 15 years, and like lou, I have taken a child to various places around the country, including Forest and Cov, without too much bother.
lou Posted 15 August 2009 Posted 15 August 2009 Wearing colours is more of a safer option than not wearing colours... How??
lou Posted 15 August 2009 Posted 15 August 2009 so i drive from loughborough to leicester (south) the coach drives by loughborough going (north) on the way back we drive by the loughborough junction to go to leicester (south) then when i get to leicester i have to drive (north) back up to loughborough.......i dont think so really ! ill go in me car and take the risk ! So youre not really that concerned about the safety aspect then?
FOX_TROT_07 Posted 15 August 2009 Posted 15 August 2009 luckily no trouble at Ipswich, went in a home supporters only pub after match wid some ipswich mates and they were all sound, they all agreed we were the better team and deserved the win
markbsac Posted 16 August 2009 Author Posted 16 August 2009 So youre not really that concerned about the safety aspect then? so you cant go via another other mode of transport then other than fox travel to be safe is this what you are saying !
Guest Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 so you cant go via another other mode of transport then other than fox travel to be safe is this what you are saying ! I think it's you posting along the lines of "I'll go up in the car and take the risk" that she's questioning, although I could be wrong.
