clazkel Posted 15 August 2009 Posted 15 August 2009 Good result, would've been happy with a draw before the game, but as the game went on the game was definately for the taking, and we should've really won. I thought Weale, Waghorn and Howards booking were silly and i dont think Pearson would've been impressed with them I would've liked Adams to have started the game or came on earlier. I dont understand why King came on and Oakley put wide as Oakley and Wellens seemed to be controlling midfield. But all in all a great point and a great day, and the players all done a great job Ipswich fans were disappointing, and it was ashame we couldnt stand up
lou Posted 15 August 2009 Posted 15 August 2009 A few Foxestalk members get their views aired on Radio Leicester!Heard leftsideoverhere, burnham and foxforever mentioned. Acooling and Samlcfc were too. Was gonna mention it. Was cheering when they mentioned FT Didnt like listening to a game on the radio its not something I intend to do again this season if I can help it. Happy with the point 4 from 6 is good enough for me.
Bert Posted 15 August 2009 Posted 15 August 2009 The ref was the busiest ref we'll have all season by the way.
lou Posted 15 August 2009 Posted 15 August 2009 The ref was the busiest ref we'll have all season by the way. Were the bookings fair? RL was suggesting Weales was harsh but made out Howard should have been sent off?
Lillehamring Posted 15 August 2009 Posted 15 August 2009 Also did McCauley get cheered at the start? And how did Howard fair against him? there was a very good chorus of 'leicester reject, woah-oh, woah-oh' for him the sound quality on bet365 was amazing, espacially on headphones, at times the city fans sounded incredible, really loud... you could even hear pearson saying: 'the two strikers need to be closer together' <_<

lcfc_jme Posted 15 August 2009 Posted 15 August 2009 In my opinion, a draw from this game was a quality result seeing as what I'm told is we'd only taken 3 points from the last 27 at their place (did I mention that those 3 points helped me to win £256?!). Didn't hear the game as I was in traffic near Bristol, but the highlights made it look a scrappy affair with no real clear-cut chances. Unbeaten still, steady.
Legend_in_blue Posted 15 August 2009 Posted 15 August 2009 I hope people realise out of this that we are better than we think we are. We're not some newly promoted League 1 side, testing the water, seeing what we can do. We're actually in pretty good shape, quite dangerous, appear willing to take the game on, but just lack a clinical edge. This will come with time. And it annoys the hell out of me when we've got the boo-boys blaming Howard for this and that, when we're missing chances at goal. It's a team effort, and the team is performing well as a unit. We can only get better from here. I'm well pleased with a point today. The manner in which it was achieved is very commendable imo. We'll be up there at the end of the season - I reckon anywhere from 8 to 12.
marbelladave Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 We seem to be split between the majority who seem to be happy with a point and a minority who think we could have done better. I am firmly in the second camp as I believe we bossed the first half and could/should have been in front at the break. I know Ipswich came at us hard at the beginning of the second period but I was disappointed that we quickly decided to settle for the drawer. The substitutions were made and presumably, instructions were given, as from then on we were noticeably more cautious. Niggly fouls and time wasting became the order of the day and even when Ipswich started to run out of steam we still made little attempt to go for the win. There will be times when we play away against better teams than Ipswich and fight hard for a point, and I will be proud to applaud such efforts but yesterday was a great chance for 3 points away from home but we did not really make the effort in the last half hour. The only reasonable explanation is that it was warm, early season and we have a game on Tuesday, but then so do Ipswich! I remain disappointed on the day, but pleased to see that we are already playing rather better than we were at the back end of last season, so I remain optimistic of a decent season. (Top half at Christmas so that we might be able to strengthen our squad and push for a playoff spot.)
Fosse Boy Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 Was playing cricket in Huntingdon yesterday so saw a fair few cars with Leicester scarves flying out the window as we drove down the A14. Good to see. Decent result to get at a bogey ground too.

We'll be up there at the end of the season - I reckon anywhere from 8 to 12. that's a fair point, but i do disagree on one point, and that is if howard has a bad game, then it is fair to comment on it, and by his standards he had a bad game, the replays on the stream yesterday showed pretty clearly that he could easily have been sent off, and as others have pointed out, his touch wasn't up to much either, i noticed that much of what he won in the air rarely found a city player.... howard is a funny one, he was roundly slated on here at first, then proved his worth last season and now seems to be an untouchable god. equally, he didn't get the best service, so one should also be critical of the midfield who contrastingly played very well in most other areas of their games. don't get me wrong, this was a good result and a strong performance, and yes, we can get better, but equally, there were signs that we cannot be complaisant, as we could also get worse.
bigneville Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 Were the bookings fair? RL was suggesting Weales was harsh but made out Howard should have been sent off? Weale's booking was a long time coming. He had plenty of warnings to hurry up from the referee, and was constantly time wasting. A well deserved yellow-card in my opinion. Waghorn's was silly, all he had to do was stop the ball, instead of kicking it by Richard Wright, but thats inexperience I guess. I can't really remember much about Howard's, look like a 50/50 challenge in the air, so unless he lead with his arm, I really couldnt comment.
Matt Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 Were the bookings fair? RL was suggesting Weales was harsh but made out Howard should have been sent off? It looked to me as if the referee was favouring us with his decisions, giving us petty freekicks, and waving away freekicks for them, but then he seemed to favour Ipswich when it came to booking - Booking our players for petty things, e.t.c.
BedsFox Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 Before the game I would have taken a point extremely happily. Still think its a creditable result However on the first half performance, where we should have been leading and dominated it..Brown's early miss being key, and then when we appeared to settle for a point after an hour and then went into time wasting mode after an hour, I was a little disappointed not to win it One thing is pretty clear though, we're very competitive in this league, and I think should be looking up the table rather than down at the difficult end. Ipswich were dire, especially in central midfield, and Keane has a lot of work to do to term them into contenders. McAuley was also not a patch on Hobbs/Brown
Fez of Mahrez Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 It looked to me as if the referee was favouring us with his decisions, giving us petty freekicks, and waving away freekicks for them, but then he seemed to favour Ipswich when it came to booking - Booking our players for petty things, e.t.c. Totally agree with that. I didn't really notice him for 70 minutes (which usually means the ref is favouring us) and then in the last twenty he decided to throw his weight around with a load of odd decisions (including one quite blatant attempt to even things up when he gave a harsh one against us and then a ludicrous one for us). The Weale booking was quite funny, all he did was let the ball run past him when a ballboy kicked it in his direction. I didn't think there was a huge amount of time-wasting but their fans behind that goal got on his back and influenced the ref. Waghorn's was amusing as well. Nice bit of skill and slots it past the keeper. Fair play to him for actually displaying a bit of trickery and youthful enthusiasm, it was sadly lacking from the majority of the game. Refs could easily just add ten seconds on for stuff like that instead of booking players. I doubt they'll end up getting suspended from accumulated bookings this season so I'm not too bothered about that. Howard on the other hand went right through Jaime Peters in the middle of the pitch just because he'd took it round one or two of our players and that was a stupid booking. He will get booked just for being physical in the air (e.g. Millwall away last season) so he really needs to cut out the needless bookings or we will end up with the same situation we had last season when we missed him badly for two games (as a result of that Millwall booking for an aerial clash as I recall).

Bookings for time wasting are a waste of time and will never stop it, if there is deliberate time wasting the referee should indicate that he's going to add additional time on. I would suggest, as a serious deterrent 30 secs. I think that would have greater effect in stopping it. There seems to be a significant increase in the level of moaning at the referee by Leicester players compared to last season, I think we need to get back to concentrating on the game.

Wellens and Weale certainly like a bit of a moan. Howard's still king moaner... until Dickov comes on. Jesus, you're right.

Bert Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 Howards booking was for a late tackle coming in from behind, on that small black lad who looked to be giving us a few problems. The referee indicated that he's already made a foul during the first half in their area when booking him.

Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 I think someone at the BBC (as well as Manish) loves us. I couldn't believe we were ine of the games to have extended highlights when I heard beforehand it was a dull 0-0. Slightly annoyed we didn't win the match though after seeing the highlights, really thought that Brown had to score and I am still in shock how he couldn't even get his header on target. But I would have taken a point before the game, its just annoying that we really should have had all 3. Also pissed off that Cov won again, but they always get a good start before getting gradually worse.
Guest Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 Gradually play evened up and it was not long into the second half that Pearson signalled that he was settling for a point by bringing King on in what seemed a purely defensive role and shoving the generally impressive Oakley out to the wing where he was, predicatbly, far less consequential.Apart from the decision seeming like something of a vote of no confidence in the sidelined Gradel, if Pearson had announced that he wasn't prepared to chase victory for 90 minutes I could have saved the money and the bother of travelling. I can't believe he played the indigenous players over the foreigners.
