davieG Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 I think someone at the BBC (as well as Manish) loves us. I couldn't believe we were ine of the games to have extended highlights when I heard beforehand it was a dull 0-0. Slightly annoyed we didn't win the match though after seeing the highlights, really thought that Brown had to score and I am still in shock how he couldn't even get his header on target. But I would have taken a point before the game, its just annoying that we really should have had all 3. Also pissed off that Cov won again, but they always get a good start before getting gradually worse. I think this game was shown more for their love of Keene than Leicester
Ford Super Sunday Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 I couldn't believe we were ine of the games to have extended highlights when I heard beforehand it was a dull 0-0. Well you don't send your cameras and trucks with all that equipment and not use the footage. Didn't matter whether it was a 0-0 or 5-5, it was always gonna be the BBC's Main game (which it was, don't let the Newcastle highlights let you think otherwise, that was just becuase it was a live Sky game) Davie is right though, it was probably to do with the Keane first home game/Bobby Robson factor (though they didn't dwell too much on Bobby) I also think it is the fact that Ipswich-Leicester sounded (on paper) like a proper good match up, compared to the rest of the fixtures yesterday. However, the BBC aren't gonna stick with us for too long if we carry on serving up rather dull, uninspiring 'entertainment' when they follow us (I of course refer to Macc as well, though I must stress again I enjoyed the game yesterday) It's a bit like 07/08 I think. Sky showed us live crap loads of times, S****horpe, Colchester, Wolves, Plymouth, Crystal Palace, Stoke, (any more) yet we hardly scored or played brilliantly in any of them.

There were two team playing yesterday not just City!!? I don't care one jot if we serve up dull unispiring Crap! As long as we get at least a point away from home and don't lose I'll take that anyday of the week. Rather that than play well and lose 3-2 or even 4-3! This season is all about consolidation. Win the majority of the hhome games and draw away and scrape the odd win will do for me. As long as we stay focused this season and can finish mid table or even play offs I will be more than happy. We are still re-building and it has been a good start, however, let's not get carried away we have played only 2 games. Long way to go yet. Look at Swansea they got stuffed 3 -0 on their own patch yesterday, so it is too early to judge. I still maintain a point at Ipswich is a bloody good result. Ipswich are a good side and not relegation fodder in this league!
Ford Super Sunday Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 I never said directly that that was my opinion, and it isn't at all actually I was looking at it from a TV producers point of view. A 2-0 non shock and a 0-0 are not exactly ratings winners, or popular to watch. the company that runs the BBC coverage IMG would have gone to huge lengths to haul their equipment to those games, and they havent been what they wanted. Gawd I am not, was not, and will not ever slate the team this early in. We have had a start that many teams would kill for.
MC Prussian Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 Phwoar, can't really complain about a draw away from home. And that against Ipswich. Remember, we're the newly-promoted side, haven't really splashed out too much money on high-profile transfers and are to play the modest game this season, anyway (at least away from home). I don't mind that strategy, as it pretty much guarantees a rather successful new campaign. What I don't get is people like you, Ian, who demand that we play in "spectacular" fashion (if I may use this expression) and then are somewhat disappointed that we didn't score. From a TV producer's point of view, no need to tell you that the schedule is made beforehand, so either you're lucky or unlucky in terms of scoreline. As a fan, again, I'm more than happy with a point away at Portman Road and if we continue this form as of late, we're going to have a really decent season. Whether it was "dull, uninspiring football" remains to be seen at the end of the season because this point could very well prove to be decisive.
Ford Super Sunday Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 I have stated twice now in this thread that I thoroughly enjoyed yesterdays game, and went away delighted. If you want to mis-interpret my comments, go ahead, I know how happy I am with the start we have made to the season, I really cant be bothered to convince everyone else of my feelings.
MC Prussian Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 That's ok. You sounded like you were contradicting yourself a bit, that's all. Btw, are you saying we're just playing crap just because we're on TV? Because we didn't play that bad yesterday.
Ford Super Sunday Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 I'm saying that, for some reason we didn't serve up what the TV producers want for a live/main game. (on reflection, using 07/08 as an example wasn't great, considering what happened) Look at it from their perspective. They choose us for a shock or a thriller against Macc, we go and demolish them with consumate ease, and win 2-0. They choose us and Ipswich. Two teams with (rightly) high expectations this season. We dominate them (especially in the first) but neither team has the key to unlocking either defence. There are only so many minutes you can get from a 0-0, which is a shame, becuase they seemed to put hardly any effort in the editing of the highlights, I felt the game was much more pulsating than it came across on TV. I said several times to several people that yesterday, 0-0 was the least we deserved. We made Ipswich look below ordinary at times yesterday, such was our dominace. I haven't come away from a football match that satisfied and entertained in a long, long time. I've not had that feeling since Leeds at home (the feeling of 'i've just seen a good game of football' as opposed to YESSSSSSSS, which was games like MK Dons and Southend away) I thought we were brilliant yesterday. passing wise we are superb, once we sort out being clinical up front, we will do miles better than I thought we might do at the start of the season. The first half against Swansea was disappointing, but since then something has clicked, and we have dominated a large chunk of the 215 minutes we have played since. I am jizzing over the Oakley-Wellens partnership at the moment too. My comment about 'dull' was made looking at the media, and inparticular to the BBC report yesterday, describing it as a 'largley forgettable' game. I, along with several others on coach 1, baluked at that shite peice of journalism. To the neutral, it may have been. But that game was end to end yesterday, from start to finish, and it was well worth the £38 for the day I spent on it. If it came across as critical of the team, I apologise to the whole site. I DO NOT, let me stress, think we have been dull this season, and under par. The team has learnt from the first half against Swansea, something which we wouldn't have done under previous regimes and players. Reputation may go before me, but I haven't felt this optimistic about a Leicester team in a long time.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 Just listening to Sportstime after the game yesterday. The first fan 'Gary' is slagging Howard off! Why are these jokers allowed on. He is our key player who we struggle without. He has played well so far and people are saying he did well yesterday. People on the radio phone up and don't even go to the match! It bloody annoys me

MC Prussian Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 Don't think he actually demanded anything, to be fair... True that. I was just referring to the "serving dull, uninspired entertainment" part, which to me meant he was expecting more than we're actually capable of as of right now.
podgywalrus Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 Hi, does anyone know who the chap was that was warming up with the team? he had dark hair and no number on his shorts?

It bloody annoys me To be honest, after seeing howards performance yesterday I think Howard is a bigger threat in the Air! Should have scored when he was in the area but blazed over the crossbar, When you say he is a key player this is true, although I think highlights the fact we need another striker who can not only challenge howard for his place but fill in if howard gets injured. If you look at the likes sheff united, cardiff and middlesborough there all much stronger than us when it comes to strikers, They have the likes of Ched Evans, Chopra and Lita. I hope pearson makes a shrewd buy in the transfer market before end of august to bolster our striker options.

We are very good with plan A, not so good with B.
Katy Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 Ipswich were lucky to get a point yesterday, we should have capitalised when we were on top in the first half. Not only did we play some really lovely football but we battled when we needed to as well, we were a joy to watch for a change. Not too worried about the missing/creating of chances just yet but if it continues then it could become an issue. Waghorn is the dogs.
BedsFox Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 Hi, does anyone know who the chap was that was warming up with the team? he had dark hair and no number on his shorts? Kermogant, I think (hope) I too would be interested in knowing for sure 6ft plus, dark hair. Did a full warm up, in kit, with the 18 players. Defintely a player but not one I have ever seen before
BedsFox Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 It was Tom Parkes. thank you. Another conspiracy theory foiled!

It bloody annoys me The RL commentators were not particularly kind to Howard. They were saying he was lucky not to be sent off for an "elbow" on McAuley. If fans were were relying on that it's not surprising they were having a dig.

He hit McAuley in the face with the elbow and then, later on, tackled another Ipswich player from behind. Howard could've well been sent off for that, but got lucky as the referee was lenient enough.
podgywalrus Posted 17 August 2009 Posted 17 August 2009 It was Tom Parkes. Thanks for that, please excuse my ignorance. but who is he?
Granno Posted 17 August 2009 Posted 17 August 2009 Thanks for that, please excuse my ignorance. but who is he? Teenage wonderstriker on trial from Arsenal. Nah, he's a youth team player.
podgywalrus Posted 17 August 2009 Posted 17 August 2009 Thought i'd heard the name, but couldn't find anything on him....

Speaking of elbowing in the face, did anybody else see Neilson elbow Lee Martin in the face rather casually early on in the game?
Corky Posted 17 August 2009 Posted 17 August 2009 Speaking of elbowing in the face, did anybody else see Neilson elbow Lee Martin in the face rather casually early on in the game? Yes, by the touchline, thought he was lucky to get away with that. Needless thing to do.
