Hackneyisblue Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 N'Guessan is a quick, black version of Scowcroft. You mean he's got a head like a novelty ice cube and can't head to one of our own players? I hope he's a hell of a lot better than Scowcroft
C-man Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 Don't recall Scowcroft being quick. Yeah thats why I said N'Guessan was a quick version of him. What I meant was that he's a target from goal kicks and should be useful at the back post.
Kilworthfox Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 Weale 8 - did nothing wrong all game. Neilson 6 weak link of a decent defence Hobbs 7 Distribution needs to improve, but is looking a good buy Brown 7 Meathead centre half, still makes the odd error. Get Tunch in for one of the 2 CB's Berner 8 Looked nails last night, no one got past him. N'Guessan 7 Looked lively without being a real threat Wellens 9 class! never puts a foot wrong £1.2M is a great piece of business. Oakley 8 Played well, rarely giving posession away Adams 8 Again played well, sure has matured in the off season. Howard 6 Poor STEVE! Hope he is fit after only 10 minutes. Fryatt 6 Lathargic, lazy bugger did not run the channels, needs to be fitter. Waghorn 6 Lively without and end product, needs to bother opposition defences more. Dyer 7 Direct, impact sub. King not on long enough. Get Tunchev in for Barnsley
Bryn Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 Told you Weale was class. "We need a first choice keeper",
Cobbo Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 Weale - 7He didn't have much to do apart from a few confident claims and one good low save in the second half. Excellent kicker of the ball. Neilson - 7 He was generally solid and his throws were a threat. Lucky for him that most of United's attacks in the second half went down our left because it looks like he could be exposed with a quick winger against him. He seemed to lack communication with N'Guessan down the right and perhaps should have demanded more from him position wise as he did tend to get drawn into the centre. Hobbs - 8 A typical Hobbs performance: solid, commanding, but his distribution can be a bit wayward. Brown - 9* Absolute beast. He was so authoritative in the air and organised the back four brilliantly. A great character to have in the side. Berner - 8 Another fine display from Bruno. Very composed defensively and offensively, though he understandably looked a bit exposed when Cotterill and Quinn were brought on. N'Guessan - 7 A bit hit and miss. Showed promise and proved to be a useful outlet in the air, but he lacks decisiveness at times. Oakley - 7 Involved with the goal and continues to impress alongside Wellens with their ability to keep the ball. (well, in the first half anyway) Wellens - 8 As well as being a very talented ball player, he works bloody hard too. Gets his body in the right position and shows his composure to pick out the right pass. Adams - 7 A surprise inclusion perhaps, but I think his pre-season and current form merited a start. Showed some good promise in the first half - always wanted the ball and looked a threat cutting in from that left side. Faded somewhat in the second half as United raised the tempo. Fryatt - 6 Despite the goal, he again looked a bit off the pace, but looked dangerous in the first half. Surprised he lasted the full 90. Howard - N/A Subs: Waghorn - 7 Worked ever so hard and used his stocky build to good effect at holding up the play. Struggled in the second half as the service deteriorated. Dyer - 6 / King - 6 Both players didn't really make an impact; merely there for fresh legs. My ratings mirror these. Basically what we talked about on the way home. Saved me an essay Scow, cheers meert
foxaholic Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 agreed and to have someone of Tunch's quality in reserve is fantastic Lets face it although defence is playing well Tunchev is easily our best defender and current internationals dont expect to be on the bench for championship sides unless they play for teams like wales or iceland
Bert Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 What Scoweh said. If The Tunch hadn't just recovered from a career threatening injury, I have no doubt he'd be starting. It's just tough luck that our 2 centre backs are playing well at the minute.
Jimmy Posted 19 August 2009 Author Posted 19 August 2009 Lets face it although defence is playing well Tunchev is easily our best defender and current internationals dont expect to be on the bench for championship sides unless they play for teams like wales or iceland I never said he wasn't
leftsideoverhere Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 Weale 8 - Looks very assured already, talking with the back four well, good kicking with both feet, and throwing, made a couple of decent saves. No chance with the goal. Neilson 7 - Nice long throw, worked hard, popped up all over the pitch both defensively and going forward. Still learning the English game, but wise old head and looks promising. Definitely a good signing for this campaign. Berner 6.5 - Got found out a little in the second half, but overall a solid if not outstanding performance. When he goes forward you can feel confident, unlike last season's Mattock experience. Hobbs 8 - Excellent. In particular, several delightfully weighted back headers to Weale. Brown 8 - As above. He is not just a hard man, he's a thinking hard man with the ability to deliver a delicate back header. N'Guessan 6 - Struggled to get in the game at times last night - it's a big step up and he won't get the time on the ball that he had in league two. That said, he battled hard and created chances. He'll get it, I reckon. Adams 7 - Really nice to see him stepping up so well to the challenge. Fought like a tiger, passed like a, err, winger? Wellens 8 - Worked hard, fought hard, shame about the tackle which led to the yellow card. Oakley 8 - Good link-up with Wellens. Captain's performance, but would have liked to see him generating some energy in the final ten minutes or so. Howard N/A - Nightmare, thought we would definitely lose when he went off. Hopefully we'll see him back soon. Fryatt 6 - Seemed half a step behind where he wanted to be all the time. Still unfit, or just struggling at this level? Not sure. Subs: Waghorn 7 - Chased a lot, but was having to be both the quick striker, because Fryatt was off the pace, and the target man because Howard was off. Couldn't really manage both. But that's fair enough, really. Manful performance in difficult circumstances. Dyer 6 - Didn't make an impact in the short time he was on. I hoped it was a sign of going for the win, but it didn't have that effect. King N/A - Made no difference, neither going forwards or back. Pity. If we consistently play like we did last night, we'll be right.
