Big Ol' Bob Posted 22 August 2009 Posted 22 August 2009 West Ham United can confirm that Calum Davenport was being treated in hospital on Saturday afternoon after an incident late on Friday night. The 26-year-old defender and his mum both suffered stab wounds at home in Bedford. His mum is recovering while Calum underwent surgery this morning and his injuries were described as serious by doctors. The club's medical team are in contact with hospital staff. The thoughts of everyone at West Ham are with Calum and his family and, due to the ongoing police investigation, no further information will be released at this time. ------- Update... A teenager has been arrested after a man was found with a stab wound at a property in Bedfordshire, police said. Officers were called to Springfield Road, Kempston, near Bedford, at 0500 BST and found the seriously injured 24-year-old. His injury is not thought to be life-threatening, police said. Officers have set up a cordon at the scene and are carrying out house-to-house inquiries. The 19-year-old man arrested over the assault is in police custody. Bedfordshire Police have asked anyone with information to contact officers.
Salieri Posted 22 August 2009 Posted 22 August 2009 Shocking. Hopefully the lad makes a full recovery (and his mum, obviously).
purpleronnie Posted 22 August 2009 Posted 22 August 2009 Blimey, hope his mum and callam have a speedy recovery, I'm so glad uk has strict gun laws.
Toby or not Toby Posted 22 August 2009 Posted 22 August 2009 Good luck to the both, hope they both pull through and Callum is back playing soon
Panz Posted 22 August 2009 Posted 22 August 2009 Shocking. Let's hope the idiot that's done this gets severe punishment.
Big Ol' Bob Posted 22 August 2009 Author Posted 22 August 2009 The 26-year-old centre-back is undergoing surgery on both legs today after being set upon at his family home in Bedford late last night. Police have launched an investigation and his injuries have been described by doctors as 'serious'. A resident of the quiet suburban street where the stabbing took place said: 'We are all a bit shocked to tell the truth. 'You just don't expect something like this to happen here, it's a peaceful, quiet spot normally.' The man who didn't wish to be named added: 'You can't get near the house now, it's all been taped off by the police.' Ann Desics, who lives in Springfield Avenue, said she was woken up by people arguing in the road outside the footballer's mother's house shortly before 5am. 'I just thought it was people passing by but then the ambulances came,' she said. 'I didn't see the incident, I just heard all this shouting. 'The main person shouting had a very strong Caribbean accent. 'It's an awful thing to happen - I hope he's okay.' Mrs Desics, 61, said the road was cordoned off for some time after Davenport was taken to hospital while the scene was examined. There was 'quite a lot' of blood on the road, she added. Davenport was a 'mad keen' footballer from a young age, according to Mrs Desics, who had known him when she worked as a dinner lady at his primary school, Camestone. Mrs Desics said she had not seen him 'for years' until his mother moved into the street around a year ago and Davenport became a regular visitor. A spokeswoman for Bedfordshire Police said: 'Police were called to Springfield Avenue in Kempston at 5am after a report of a person being stabbed. 'A 26-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment for serious injury which is not thought to be life-threatening at this time. 'A 19-year-old man was arrested shortly after the incident in connection with the assault. 'But the investigation is still ongoing and house to house inquiries, scenes of crime officers and a cordon are at the scene at this moment in time.' The arrested man was taken into custody for questioning.

Budweiser Posted 22 August 2009 Posted 22 August 2009 I was stunned to hear this. Hope he gets better soon!
Big Ol' Bob Posted 22 August 2009 Author Posted 22 August 2009 Been speaking to my cousin who is a hammers fan, latest rumour is that it was his sisters boyfriend that has been arrested.
maddog Posted 22 August 2009 Posted 22 August 2009 Stabbed in both legs his playing career may be over.
Guest Posted 22 August 2009 Posted 22 August 2009 Stabbed in both legs his playing career may be over. Seeing as cruciate ligament damage is no longer career threatening, that's a bit premature. Hope the lad and his mum make a speedy recovery.

RedHux Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 not good, and he was being linked with a move to forest to last week. Bids had been put in and everything. This is shockingly bad luck for the lad given he's just got back to fitness after a broken bone in the neck. Get well soon Callum (and get yourself to the city ground, ASAP!)
Fox92 Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Hopefully Calum and his mum make a full and good recovery. This is disgraceful and the person that did it should be locked away forever.
Salieri Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Josh baskin, what's your point? Yes, i was wondering that meself.
StanSP Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Seeing as cruciate ligament damage is no longer career threatening, that's a bit premature.Hope the lad and his mum make a speedy recovery. There's rumours that one of his legs may have to be amputated.
AoWW Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 There's rumours that one of his legs may have to be amputated. Indeed. Link Really hope this isn't true. Would be a truly horrific end to his playing career if that was the case.
StanSP Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Indeed. LinkReally hope this isn't true. Would be a truly horrific end to his playing career if that was the case. Ah didn't know there was a link. I live in Bedford so heard from a few mates who live in Kempston that this may be the case. The whole incident is horrific, let alone the consequences.
Thracian Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Blimey, hope his mum and callam have a speedy recovery, I'm so glad uk has strict gun laws. Why? Is it somehow better to promote a situation where folk can instead stick knives in defenceless people? And in the knowledge that they'll likely be dealt with leniently when they do.
Guest Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 There's rumours that one of his legs may have to be amputated. But at the time that I posted, it was just that, a rumour. Until anything is confirmed, I would prefer to look on the bright side. Why? Is it somehow better to promote a situation where folk can instead stick knives in defenceless people? And in the knowledge that they'll likely be dealt with leniently when they do. Yes, that's right.
foxoffderby Posted 29 August 2009 Posted 29 August 2009 Spoke to a friend of mine who went to school with Worrell in Derby this morning he also trains with him at the same gym. When this goes to court some shocking news will come out about Davenport. Before it I go into this I've just heard this second hand and Im not taking sides and totally condone any type of violence. Actually before I put this on the web can a mod reply back and tell me what I can and cannot say about a live case I dont want to get myself into trouble, it involves Davenports part in this which has not been reported in the media thanks
foxoffderby Posted 29 August 2009 Posted 29 August 2009 sorry guys as not to put this site or myself in trouble I wont be posting my thoughts. All I will say the media has not reported everything that has happened and not all the events leading to the stabbing.

Why don't you go to the police and tell them what you know If it's true, and if they haven't done so already, the police might contact Worrell's friend who suddenly has information.
