Salieri Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Huge congratulations lads. Fantastic! The result was never in doubt.
Granno Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 I'm happy, although not a great follower of cricket, the Ashes always keeps me gripped.
CKB Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 When the Aussies where 300 odd for 5 i turned off as i had really bad feelings! just after tea we looked flat and had no spark but then it all turned around and i am one happy England fan!
Brainy Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 Enjoyable series between two very even teams. Out of 10: Strauss - 8 - The rock. Really inspriational. The rest of the team crumbled if he got out cheaply, such a valuable presence. Cook - 6 - Played a big part in getting the win at Lord's. Very average everywhere else though. Bopara - 3 - The less said the better really. Still believe he has what it takes at international level, needs to go and recapture some form though. Bell - 6 - Very inconsistent. Impressive first innings at the Oval but did an OK job. Trott - 8 - Can't say too much really. Superb debut and definitely looks as if he has what it takes at international level. Pencil him in for South Africa. Collingwood - 6 - His second innings at Cardiff looks to have won us the series. Very average overall, his ability in the field may have kept him in the side though. Prior - 8 - Very good with the gloves. Improved so, so much over the past year. Great ability with the bat too, hopefully our WK for years to come. Flintoff - 7 - Not alot you can do with one leg. Phenomenal bowling at Lord's but rather quiet everywhere else. Shouldn't have expected too much though. Broad - 8 - Seven might be fairer, but i'll be generous as his bowling on day 2 turned the game in our favour. Very useful runs with the bat and got better as the series went on. Swann - 7 - Similar story to Broad. Very good in patches and ordinary in others. His batting was very useful down the order. Anderson - 7 Decent series from Jimmy. Bowled well in the conditions that suited him, and proved stubborn with the bat. Harmison - 6 - Didn't see much of him to be honest. Would have been great to see him clinch the series with the hat-trick. Onions - 7 - Solid. Took some important wickets and looked pretty comfortable. Panesar - Needless to say, crucial batting in the 1st test won us the series. Played only one test but definitely played his part. Katich - 7 - Quite average. Had plenty of decent starts but didn't do much from there. Hard to beat though. Hughes - 5 - Quite harsh dropping him but turned out to be the right decision. Watson - 7 - Scored decent runs but not enough. Did a solid job for a makeshift opener. Ponting - 8 - Give him an extra point for his sportsmanship. Didn't let the boo-boys get to him and scored some very handy runs. Fantastic player. Hussey - 5 - probably Australia's worst player this summer. Saved himself some embarrassment with a superb century today. Clarke - 8 - Australia's best player. Was Australia's top batsmen, somehow pipped by Strauss to the series' leading run scorer. North - 7 - very impressed with North. Probably guilty of getting out cheaply on occasions but scored a few centuries and formed some solid partnership's with Clarke. I thought he would have been Australia's weak link but proved me completely wrong. Haddin - 7 - didn't do much wrong throughout the series. Handy with the bat too. Johnson - 6 - not the Johnson we were warned about. Rarely a threat and didn't do much with the bat either. Siddle - 7 - Similar to Broad. Got better as the series went on but too little too late. Hauritz - 7 - not as poor as most made him out to be. Could have made the difference if picked for the final test. Hilfenhaus - 8 - could have been so much different if Lee didn't injure himself before the Cardiff. Hilfenhaus stepped in and proved to be more than capable. Probably Australia's best bowler. England overall - did enough but need to sort out their middle order. Flintoff will be badly missed Australia overall - Must perform better in their first innings, team selection at The Oval cost them though. Cardiff was probably the turning point for the series. England performed best when it mattered most. Amazing how a team can score six centuries more than the opposition and still lose the series. Doesn't come close to the '05 win, but a win is a win. Australia batted poorly in three of the five first innings, and cost them the game on two occasions. Fantastic spirit by the England team to come back from the humiliation at Headingley. Well done lads!

Edmund Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 yeah I know I did, what's there to say about him? Nice get out clause Who would have thought we would have still won when KP got injured. Glad Freddie battled through to the end.

Well done lads! Where's Stuart Clark? He played a big part in the Aussie win at Headingley. The selectors' decision to pick him instead of Hauritz at the Oval made our task of winning the game a lot easier.
Sirloin Posted 23 August 2009 Posted 23 August 2009 I was there today, bugger me what a match. Hats off to Ponting and Hussey, made a game of it.

Brainy Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 i'm fully aware of who I missed out!! if it means so much to you, Clark - 7!!
Fox You Forest Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 Down to fourth in the test rankings, Quiet a shock for them I should imagine.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 Congrats England Better team won the series, too many times we crumbled under pressure and it turned matches. As an Aussie support i can't blame any one we picked 11 men for each test some selections weren't great but we still had 11 players fit and ready to go for each match and got out played. I am hurting today but some times they say the darkest hour is right before the dawn.
