davieG Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 Are they going to be lower than the last time in the Championship? Saturday V Barnsley - Unbeaten this year, unbeaten at home for nigh on a year 21799 Sat Oct 17th 2007 v Barnsley - Frank Burrows in temporary charge, 19th in the league with one home win and 2 wins from 11 prior to the game 24133
Basingstoke Fox Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 Wasn't that the one where we had much lower ticket prices though? Then all the Barnsley fans were talking about 'boycotting' the match . Plus people are still on holiday and stuff.

Plus people are still on holiday and stuff. Pretty sure that was the season before. Game was in December, 2-0 win, Hammond and Porter.
C-man Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 I think most teams, even if they have a good footballing tradition, will suffer lower attendances this year. It is hard to tell after teams have only played two home games but even Derby's terrific gates for the last two to three years have showed signs of falling - only 26k against Plymouth this year compared to 29k against the same team last season, and they have some of the best ticket offers and pricing structures in the Football League.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 Pretty sure that was the season before.Game was in December, 2-0 win, Hammond and Porter. Oh right. Bloody hell Hammond AND Porter scored in the same game? Must have had good odds on that.
Asha Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 Oh right. Bloody hell Hammond AND Porter scored in the same game? Must have had good odds on that. Also happened the previous game, a 2-1 win at Wolves.
Tommeh Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 People bringing up the "still on holiday" bollocks really annoys me. Couldn't really care less about attendances, we'll be much lower than Derby around the same as Forest and be in the top 3rd in the league ahead of many nothing prem clubs like Hull, Pompey, Burnley, Stoke, Wigan.
C-man Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 Our attendances are still going to be some of the highest in the league. I'd say only Sheff United, Sheff Weds and Derby will have higher gates than us in the Championship. Doesn't really matter though. There was less moaning from idiotic fans at the Barnsley game and the attendance was at least 4000 (2000 City fans) lower.
davieG Posted 24 August 2009 Author Posted 24 August 2009 I didn't ask about comparisons as i'm not that interested in other attendances either it was more to do with revenue coming in.

C-man Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 I didn't ask about comparisons as i'm not that interested in other attendances either it was more to do with revenue coming in. Well what were the ticket prices back in 2007?
davieG Posted 24 August 2009 Author Posted 24 August 2009 Well what were the ticket prices back in 2007? They didn't go down when we got relegated and they've just gone up so less than this year.
C-man Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 They didn't go down when we got relegated and they've just gone up so less than this year. In that case, based on a £2 increase on adult prices, ticket revenue is almost identical to two season's ago against Barnsley.

I guess we'll never know but higher attendances with lower prices seems the better option. I guess it'll all depend on how the season pans out if we continue to perform hopefully the gates will out perform 2007 and revenues will increase.
Shrenchel Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 We clearly need more initiatives to get the kids in. It's like a fooking working mens club down the Walkers these days.

willchafer Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 its our awful ticket prices i mean me my bro and my dad bought season tickets quite early and it cost us about 400 qwid for us all...but my uncle went to but one the other day and its about 500 pounds for him so hes not going this year. our prices are somewhat embaresing to uvver clubs.

Actually, our season ticket prices are reasonable compared to what other teams are charging.
Corky Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 The second match generally does see a decrease in attendance figures. Last year- 23k against Dons, 17k vs Tranmere Year before- 26k vs Blackpool, 21k vs Watford. Our attendances are very respectable, third highest in the Championship on Saturday and more than Wigan got against Man Utd.

Just about to say that, unless you have a bug team second game of the season the trends pretty much everyyear show that attendances go down for the second game.
James. Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 Our attendances are very respectable, third highest in the Championship on Saturday and more than Wigan got against Man Utd. On MOTD the Wigan turn out looked abysmal. What was it in the end, about 18,000? I know it's a small place and a rugby town and all that but if you can't get over 20k when Man United are in town then something's not right...
C-man Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 Think your forgeting Newcastle, Middlesborough and West Brom as well!! Yeah I forgot about Newcastle, but Middlesbrough is debatable and I think we'll have higher gates than WBA.
leicesterseddon Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 21,711 is a very respectable attendance for an unappetising game to which the opposing club bring fewer than a thousand fans. We aren't going to get massive attendances this season, simply because we haven't sold that many season tickets, due to price and the extremely early renewal deadline. If we're in contention for a play-off place come the end of the season we'll get big crowds towards the end though, I'm sure about that. Anyway, I don't think we have anything to gain fretting over how our home attendances stack up against other clubs. Away attendances are much more important

Away attendances are much more important Well I was comparing like for like as in Barnsley v's Barnsley and I wasn't fretting over how we compared to other clubs, note I didn't mention other clubs. As for not getting higher attendances due to fewer ST sales and higher prices was pretty much why I asked the question.

Prices do make a difference, considering it's a recession, people may not think the barnsley game is worth spending the money for????
