Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 3 September 2009 Posted 3 September 2009 From the BBC: Striker Steve Claridge is to come out of retirement at the age of 43 to help cash-strapped club Weymouth. The former player-manager of the non-league outfit is to play for nothing against Blue Square South rivals Bromley in Saturday's home clash. Claridge has played 1,008 matches in a career spanning more than two decades. Dave Higson, Weymouth's acting chairman, said: "Steve will not be coaching or managing, just playing some games to help out in our survival bid." The club's board of directors met on 29 August and set themselves a deadline of 10 days to find new investment of around £50,000 or face the prospect of going into administration. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/e...onf/8237112.stm
lildave3 Posted 3 September 2009 Posted 3 September 2009 Does that mean he won't be swaying on our TV screens this week?
Fox You Forest Posted 3 September 2009 Posted 3 September 2009 Does that mean he won't be swaying on our TV screens this week? Hope so, I'll miss that haircut if not.

Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 4 September 2009 Author Posted 4 September 2009 I hope he is still on the FL show. He may sway side to side but I think he is very good on it.
leicesterfox86 Posted 4 September 2009 Posted 4 September 2009 Does that mean he won't be swaying on our TV screens this week? It probably means he will still be on, but just talking whenever he can about the fact he played again.
dandannieldanok Posted 4 September 2009 Posted 4 September 2009 Not sure its going to be that much of a help to Weymouth, can't imagine Steve is really in any match-fit shape to play more than a cameo 10 minutes at the end. 43 is not old in the circle of life, but it's ancient in football.
AmericanScott Posted 4 September 2009 Posted 4 September 2009 I read this at work today and to be honest, i thought April fools had come early.

ACF Posted 5 September 2009 Posted 5 September 2009 I read this at work today and to be honest, i thought April fools had come early. Don't you mean late?
StanSP Posted 5 September 2009 Posted 5 September 2009 Some Weymouth fans I've spoken to don't really feel he'll have much of a difference on the pitch. They also agree with what others have said in this thread in that it's a money-making procedure.
syston_fox Posted 7 September 2009 Posted 7 September 2009 Woah woah woah - I own shares in that club and this is the first I hear of this? Outrage!
dogadug Posted 9 September 2009 Posted 9 September 2009 Couldn't stop them from losing again yesterday, and dropping to bottom of the Blue Square north League!
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 9 September 2009 Author Posted 9 September 2009 Couldn't stop them from losing again yesterday, and dropping to bottom of the Blue Square north League! Least his heart is in the right place. Tries and tries.
Edmund Posted 9 September 2009 Posted 9 September 2009 Fairplay to him, obviously loves the game and must still keep in great shape to play 90 minutes of competitive football at his age.
StanSP Posted 10 September 2009 Posted 10 September 2009 Sheringham's following suit... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/e...onf/8147918.stm
