I wouldn't say that's true. The UK probably has the biggest and most dedicated NFL fanbase outside of North America. Why else would they keep staging games at Wembley? I heard a rumour they're even resurrecting the London Monarchs franchise for NFL Europe?
Ford Super Sunday Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 I have been in love with the NFL for about four years now Before I used to be like other people, castigate it and think it was ridiculous, then, in a bout of insomnia one night, on went a game and i've loved it ever since. (Go Colts by the way ) The one sport I have grown to love recently though is swimming I watched the World Championships from Rome in July. The atmosphere, the close races, the world records, the excitement, absolutely brilliant, such a fantastic sport to watch (for me anyway) I also love the fact that I love watching swimming, but I can't actually swim!

MPH Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 Basketball for me. Still don't really understand all the technical rules and the fouling but that hasn't stopped me from enjoying the games. Been watching the Eurobasket qualifiers, not the same standard as the NBA but there has still been some pretty exciting matches. ever thought of nipping down to support the Leicester riders this season? small crowd but they can whip up a good atmosphere... left there having lost my voice on many occasions...

MPH Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 I've been in Pittsburgh quite a lot over the past 14 months and have completely fallen in love with NFL. I used to dismiss it due to the breaks for adverts and general ignorance. Now I understand the rules and the culture better I think it is the second best sport on earth. I love the way Americans spend their entire Sunday watching games and the unashamed geekyness of their obsession with fantasy and statistics. Also the sport itself is low scoring enough to produce regular dramatic moments as well as the occasional upset.Such as shame that the main matches each week are on at silly o clock in the UK, means it will never catch on over here. im getting married and moving to North Carolina. Spent 6 month there this year and i heartily agree. its just good clean party time fun with lots of food and drinks during play offs and superbowl!!

Why else would they keep staging games at Wembley?I heard a rumour they're even resurrecting the London Monarchs franchise for NFL Europe? they have been trying to get NFL to take off in the UK for over 30 years now... i remember watching the Leicester Panthers when i was a kid... it has a decent fanbase in the UK but it isnt a HUGE fanbase and so it will never take off properly... peaks and troughs!

Ice Hockey..... got dragged along to watch Coventry Blaze and totally loved it. Going to start attending home games on a Sunday night again once Ive been paid i used to play for panthers youth and have always loved american footy, but i've been very indifferent to ice hockey, naturally it's massive over here, and vålerenga ice hockey are the bollocks, so i'm determined to give it a goo this winter... the rink is weird but it was built in 1952, and in 1967 they put a roof on it

Yes I think I'll definitely make the effort sometime, really enjoying basketball now although I do need to learn some of the fouling technicalities.

Depends how far back were talking they were my god's! i saw them play a lot, and i think denny came to a few of our practices, but i was in the youth team (i was a running back), and didn't follow it thru when i hit 18 (and the pub ) great times, and decent crowds those days, especially when they moved into the vellodrome... too much squabbling amongst the leagues prevented the sport really taking off in england, shame really...

I used to go out with Normans brother David, he used to be in the squad but wasnt a regular 1st teamer like Norman.... what a player he was! Knew a few of them but cant remember their names now old age has set in. Good times! Remember a bloody huge guy who was really friendly but his name escapes me too! It is a shame it didnt take off. Went and saw the Blue Jays last year, and it totally converted me into a baseball fan. Even if I still can't help thinking that it's rounders with a few more rules
Nationwider Posted 18 September 2009 Posted 18 September 2009 I got into Baseball a few years back thanks to Five's late night coverage with Jonathan Gould and Todd Macklin. I must have fallen asleep before the top of the 6th/7th innings during 90% of all games I watched. In the days when I was able to turn up for work the following day and just go to sleep, it was essential late, late night viewing, and completely absorbing.
