Finnegan Posted 19 September 2009 Posted 19 September 2009 Not a fan of the increased traffic. Took me 40 mins to get from town to Oadby as the game was finished. You're so English
C-man Posted 19 September 2009 Posted 19 September 2009 You're so English To be fair all I've done this weekend is moan about traffic and watch two entertaining Championship football matches.
MPH Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 Their new caterpillar stand is the second largest single tier stand in the whole of the country... second only to the Kop at Anfield...
dandannieldanok Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 Just seen Richard Cockerill's dimwitted comment in the paper: "Newcastle didn't come to play rugby". Strange summary when, especially in the first half, Leicester kicked all their possession whereas Newcastle actually tried to build the phases.
purpleronnie Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 Their new caterpillar stand is the second largest single tier stand in the whole of the country... second only to the Kop at Anfield... Is this true though? Maybe I'm wrong but doesnt the hillsborough kop hold more than that and bramalls lane kop too?
Sparky Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 Is this true though? Maybe I'm wrong but doesnt the hillsborough kop hold more than that and bramalls lane kop too? I was a bit skeptical so did some research Hillsborough Kop 11,210 Bramall lane kop 10,221 Tigers new stand... Only figure i can find is 10,000 but trying to confirm that. You may be right
davieG Posted 20 September 2009 Author Posted 20 September 2009 I think they're talking physical size not number of seats.
Sparky Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 I think they're talking physical size not number of seats. Ah ok fair enough
purpleronnie Posted 20 September 2009 Posted 20 September 2009 I think they're talking physical size not number of seats. Ahhh right. <_<
davieG Posted 20 September 2009 Author Posted 20 September 2009 Ah ok fair enough Ahhh right. <_< Maybe Rugby fans need/get more leg room.
vanfox12 Posted 25 September 2009 Posted 25 September 2009 Is it me or as anyone noticed that apart from one or two exceptions the majority of the new stadiums built in this country are pretty un-impressive in terms of design generally and creating atmosphere so i think it is unfair to single out the Walkers as being bland when there are a number of grounds which are just as bad. I also think that the new Wembley isn't really that good considering how much it cost and personally think Arsenals Emirates stadium looks better even if it is basically a rip off of Benfica's Stadium of Light plus it cost much less and took less time to build. As for the new tigers stand of course it looks impressive but apart from looking shiny and new it is hardly anymore state of the art than the Walkers it just seems to look better thats all(Although i was impressed by the bar facilities and choice of lager). Mind you i think most of the really impressive structures you find at grounds which have been rebuilt. The best examples of this are Newcastles St James Park, Wolves Molyneux, Old Trafford, Anfield and White Hart Lane. However having said that i wasn't that impressed by the facilities at the City Ground.
Tomassi Posted 25 September 2009 Posted 25 September 2009 walkers stadium is boring but does the job, I loved the Carling stand at Filbo, and find the new tigers stand equally impressive if not more so. such a lovely sight and design and something to be proud of
Guest Bilo Posted 29 September 2009 Posted 29 September 2009 Picked up tickets for the Ospreys game on Sunday week for myself and the lady. Will keep you posted as to the atmosphere but the new Caterpillar Stand is mightily impressive. If the finished redevelopment looks anything like as good as the artist's impressions suggest, Welford Road is going to be the city's best stadium by a street.
Tommeh Posted 29 September 2009 Posted 29 September 2009 I think they're talking physical size not number of seats. In which case the Kop at Hillsborough still dominates it.
TrickyTrev Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 Rugby and football attendances can't be directly compared, rugby's a minority sport next to football. So the fact that we're even able to compare the gates of the Tigers and the City is admirable on the Tigers' part, to be honest. If and when people call Leicseter a "rugby city" it's because the Tigers are multiple European champions, multiple national champions and one of the biggest domestic rugby club sides in the world. In comparison, City are an unfashionable, dogged, rugged, Premiership yo-yo club at best that the media don't like and the football fans outside of the county largely don't give a fuck about. Now I love City, don't get me wrong. Pains me that I can't afford to go more and I've probably never really called myself a Tigers fan (mon the Sosban Fach!) But if you can't understand why outsiders would consider Leicester a "rugby city" then you're being seriously blinkered. But the term gives the deceiving implication that Rugby is more popular in the city than Football, which clearly isn't true. Rugby is such a minority sport that even in the city which houses a European giant, the populace largely don't give a fook and would rather watch a mediocre non-descript football side.
Unit Posted 10 October 2009 Posted 10 October 2009 I used my dad's season ticket last saturday and am going tommorow, middle of the new stand, it's well impressive. Also, no more paper season tickets, it's a credit card shaped thing that you scan on your way in.

Unit Posted 11 October 2009 Posted 11 October 2009 Like we used to have. me always done the ole buy a ticket at the door until recently, never had the money to buy a season ticket so paid game by game.
weluv Posted 11 October 2009 Posted 11 October 2009 can't understand why everyone wanks over Welford road tbh. Headingley's bigger, sees bigger crowds and has a much better atmosphere. The 'cauldron' of Welford Road is laughable.

Leicester Rule! Posted 11 October 2009 Posted 11 October 2009 "There here, there there, there every fooking where, empty seats" Not a sell out today is it?
Benji Posted 11 October 2009 Posted 11 October 2009 what a fooking game that was 4 late changes, Ospreys on the rampage and the boys come out with that second half. And if twelvetrees had passed in the last 10 seconds it would have been an unbelieveable win. Another day proud to be from Leicester
Fosse Boy Posted 11 October 2009 Posted 11 October 2009 "There here, there there, there every fooking where, empty seats"Not a sell out today is it? Sounds like it was a cracking game though.
