lookwhaticando Posted 7 October 2009 Posted 7 October 2009 BBC Pirates hit navy ship 'in error' A group of Somali pirates has been captured after attacking a French navy ship by mistake, apparently thinking it was a harmless cargo vessel. French military spokesman Admiral Christophe Prazuck said the pirates attacked in skiffs late at night some 500km (310 miles) off the Somali coast. But the command and supply ship, the Somme, repelled the attack and chased the pirates, capturing five of them. I don't know why the French ship gave chase, they should've just blown the bastards out of the water and posted the resulting video on YouTube.
BoneDog Posted 7 October 2009 Posted 7 October 2009 This guy talks about the main reason the pirates started doing their business back in the 90's. If someone was dumping nuclear waste in the sea near a coast where I lived I'd support the pirates, or maybe be one. I'd certainly make them a big packed lunch for their journey at the very least
jonthefox Posted 7 October 2009 Posted 7 October 2009 I want to be a pirate. i got called a poo pirate the other day.. is that the same thing?

Nick Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 This guy talks about the main reason the pirates started doing their business back in the 90's. If someone was dumping nuclear waste in the sea near a coast where I lived I'd support the pirates, or maybe be one. I'd certainly make them a big packed lunch for their journey at the very least Interesting argument and truthful, however the 'big players' running the pirates do not appear intrinsically linked to deterring the dumping of nuclear waste, although I agree with the fact that NATO and the UN are toothless in all of this and that foreign governments are preventing Somali's from fishing and using their lands and waters by polluting them - so it's not surprising that they decide to steal by force from the west that exploits them.
breadandcheese Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 The argument about fishermen becoming pirates because the waters are polluted is a load of bull. If I was a Somali with the option of becoming a fisherman, earning a couple of shiny dollars a week, or becoming a pirate where one good hijacking could earn me a couple of £100,000, I'd say shiver me timbers and get me a boat. It's just simple risk-reward analysis.
