FallOfFingolfin Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 Hello all, I'm 20 years old and am currently attending Illinois State University, working towards a degree in History education. For some reason, I've had a fascination with English culture since I was a child, and in the last few years I have really gotten into football. Much to my surprise, my parents have said that it would be great for me to study abroad for a semester. Obviously wanting England, I've decided on Leicester ahead of Canterbury or Sunderland. When it comes to footy I'm a big Spurs fan and have been for a few seasons now. I wake up at 9 AM on the weekends to watch nearly every match, and it is a dream of mine to go to White Hart Lane. While I'm in Leicester I plan on taking the train down to London at least twice to see Tottenham play, but I'm also VERY interested in going to see the Foxes, for many reasons. Walkers Stadium will just be a walk down the road, it'll be a good community experience, and the tickets are very inexpensive, especially compared to Premiership tickets (£10 for U22 tickets?? Count me in!). I've looked into the club a bit, played them some in FM and FIFA, and am very excited to go to as many matches as I can when I'm in the country next season, especially the weekends when Spurs are away from home or on telly. Would it be alright with all of you if I adopt City as my second team? The idea of going to most home matches for the three months I'll be in the city is incredibly exciting to me, and I'd love to travel to some away matches as well. I'm not a big drinker but seeing as I'll be legal to drink in England I will probably hang about the pubs and get a few pints while abroad, before matches and to watch other games on television and such. I like a lot of English tv shows, especially The Inbetweeners, Peep Show, Extras, and The Office. As far as music goes, The Beatles have been my favourite band for years, and in the last couple I have become very fond of The Smiths. Just wanted to give everyone a hello, and maybe I'll see you around the ground a year from now! Kevin
Unit Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 everything sounds good except the spurs part also your taste in t.v programmes is perfect.
Monk Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 The good news is that you won't have the watch the highlights on FOX anymore. My god that is awful stuff. Interesting that you chose Leicester. Caterbury probably has a bit more heritage but you did well to avoid Sunderland. While you are over be sure to take the 30 minute train and go to Oakham (my home town, could be a little biased) - lots of history there and it has a nice lake - Rutland Water. Also another 30 min east is Stamford, a famous Georgian town, which is pretty nice/ Bring me root beer.
Guest Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 I think you should adopt Spurs as your second team and bump City up to first The other way madness lies
davieG Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 Welcome to Foxestalk, Leicester City & England. You could hope we're in the Premier League by then and you get to watch us beat Spurs.
Lillehamring Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 i can only see this going one way - you end up going to every game with random foxes talkers and turn into a heavy drinking city fan, realising that spurs are just a poor man's arsenal. oh, and don't expect to see any feats of antique architectura l engineering, they've all been demolished
Babylon Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 oh, and don't expect to see any feats of antique architectura l engineering, they've all been demolished There's a nice white elephant in the city centre.

I'm sure once you get into the swing of things over here, you'll probably end up meeting a few people and see them at games etc, maybe tagging along with them if they'll let you. Our club puts on official coaches to away games, so you can always get on them, never more than £20 a match anyway.
