StanSP Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/europe/8298063.stm Fabio Cannavaro has failed a doping test after taking a medicine containing banned substance cortisone.Cannavaro, who took the medicine in August, had sought an exemption, claiming he was treating a wasp sting. However, the Juventus captain's application was missing documentation and, while awaiting a decision, he was subsequently tested. Juventus have said the medicine was indispensable to "prevent eventual complications, even lethal ones". Cannavaro is set to be interviewed by the Italian Olympic Committee's (Coni) anti-doping prosecutor Etorre Torri on Friday. The 36-year-old, who captained Italy to their 2006 World Cup triumph, is currently on international duty as his side aim to seal qualification for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. He is expected to return to lead the side against Cyprus next Wednesday. He will be missing from Saturday's key World Cup qualifier match against the Republic of Ireland due to a prior suspension.
FoxyLady85 Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 Well I never thought I would see the day when a repected Centre Back failing a drug test. Well he shouldn't be allowed to play for Italy on Saturday if he has failed it.

FoxyLady85 Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 Missing it anyway. I never knew that he was suspended
Darkzzz_ Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 I don't think there is any more to the story, I hope I am right too.
Guest Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 Hmmm, grey areas..... I am on medication that would fail a sports dope test, but without it, I would struggle.

It was in medication he was taking, he'd applied for an exemption because of it but there was something missing in the application and he was tested while waiting for the outcome. It's not as though he's snorting coke of hookers' breasts and injection steroids into his bellend.

BoneDog Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 What kind of fannyhole needs treatment for a wasp sting?! Just be a man and suck it out. Surely these idiots could come up with a better excuse:D EDIT : Obviously if you're allergic to Wasp or Bee stings then it's a different story. One of my mates got stung once and he had a cricket ball sized lump. So, if you're allergic you not a fanny ok

BoneDog Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 They're footballers. They need extra care True, didn't think of that! My brother got stung on his shaft once. Ooooh it was funny. This big freaky looking wasp in Greece went up his shorts and got him. It swelled up ridiculous but he manned it out and got on with it
AmericanScott Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 True, didn't think of that!My brother got stung on his shaft once. Ooooh it was funny. This big freaky looking wasp in Greece went up his shorts and got him. It swelled up ridiculous but he manned it out and got on with it Sounds like an advantage to me.

Tevez Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 Happens to all the good players! Mark Bosnich and Adrian Mutu being two of the best, fairplay to Fabio.

So, if you're allergic you not a fanny ok I'd say if he was using medication which they described as crucial does mean that he was probably allergic to it in some capacity. I doubt it'll go any further than him having to explain what happened.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 Happens to all the good players!Mark Bosnich. lol
AjcW Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 and injection steroids into his bellend. This bit made me want to and at the same time.
Jordan Posted 9 October 2009 Posted 9 October 2009 I'm sorry for Cannavaro; this ruling seems like total horse shit. Cortisone, although a steroid, is an anti-inflammatory treatment.
BoneDog Posted 9 October 2009 Posted 9 October 2009 Sounds like an advantage to me. Yes, he did show it off a few times!
BoneDog Posted 9 October 2009 Posted 9 October 2009 The words 'Be a dear and suck out the poison' would almost certainly be uttered. I suspected someone might say that, and you were 1 of my candidates to say it !

Now I've read the report I agree, it was just my first reaction that the wasp thing was an excuse, but I don't think that now
Fox92 Posted 9 October 2009 Posted 9 October 2009 Oh dear, one of the best defenders from this generation as well.
Jon the Hat Posted 9 October 2009 Posted 9 October 2009 Oh dear, one of the best defenders from this generation as well. Yeah, who would have thought someone like him would get stung. And by an insect too. Shocking lack of foresight on his part. He should have been much more careful.
peterborofox Posted 9 October 2009 Posted 9 October 2009 Cannavaro is past it any way. Good player in 2006, but has got gradulllay worse with time. Shoudnt play for Italy till its sorted.
