TrickyTrev Posted 18 October 2009 Posted 18 October 2009 Seriously though, this should have disallowed and a drop ball given. It was just a clear cut case of the officials not knowing the rules.

A level one referee will know the laws. You can only assume that the reason he went to his assistant was to ask what he say. It very much looks like the referee felt it hit the defender therefore it's an error of opinion. A game was once replayed because the referee gave a re-take of a penalty when it should have been an indirect free kick; this is a case of misapplication of the laws. If when the referee is asked he says he didn't think it hit the ball, then it can't be that he's wrong in law as he was correct in law going by what he thought happened.
Guppy Posted 18 October 2009 Posted 18 October 2009 Don't know if this has been posted before but it made me laugh. The 2 links are on this forum.
Ross-Kemp Posted 18 October 2009 Posted 18 October 2009 Reina seems to look at the ball as it comes off the balloon, then changes his mind. Bloody foreigners

jonthefox Posted 19 October 2009 Posted 19 October 2009 Apparently the beach ball in question came from a discounted set which included a bag and towell. prehaps we could adopt this approach tomorrow and wrap the towell around the palace keepers nut.
