Joe. Posted 24 October 2009 Posted 24 October 2009 I'm just struggling to understand quite how a fifth of those people questioned would consider voting BNP in the aftermath of that particular show, when Griffin was quite blatantly beaten to a political pulp. The next day I think every single national newspaper featured his mug on the front cover, with a scathing attack to go with it.

The same reason that so many dribble over any other half arse celebrity who's renowned for doing FA. Stick someone on the front of a newspaper, magazine or TV for whatever reason good or indifferent and they will gather sycophants from our celebrity obsessed population and I doubt many of them are immigrants.

I really don't understand the Cult of Celebrity. I am sure that there needs to be an "N" in there somewhere...... This week, there was an ad on TV for a programme featuring Fearne Cotton and Peaches Geldof. Fearne barely registers on my scale, but Peaches? WTF has she done, apart from having famous parents, and living off the back of their fame? Fork off, and get a real life, you sad waste of space, I thought.

I know what you mean about Cotton, I was in the newsagents and there were at least 5 'women's' mags with her on the front praising her for losing so much weight - didn't she have her stomach tied, hardly a sign of will-power and of course open to every over-weight person.

Think that was Fern Britton actually, Fearne Cotton has always been tiny.

On Friday at work some people were going on about how what he says is true regarding immigration and jobs and that was the point that seemed to stick in many peoples minds obviously forgetting the things like.. Failure to answer any questions Failure to provide any evidence to back up his facts Laughing at the Holocaust Denying sharing a stage with the KKK (even though it's on Youtube) His very punchable weasel like face General talking of crap being historically and factually wrong His past history his only answer being that's a misquote, I didn't say that The only point people thing about is Immigration forgetting the fact he has no actual answers and didn't give any viable solution or answers

FilboFox Posted 25 October 2009 Posted 25 October 2009 My uncle (who is very left wing) was told by one of his work mates that he is considering voting for the BNP because they 'ganged up' on him on Thursday... That is one of the main reasons his support is going up... It was rather foolish of the politicians to beat him up so much like they did... right now, the public DON'T LIKE politicians who are already part of the establishment and if they can see that Nick Griffin is a viable option to vote for that will piss the existing politicians off, they'll do it cause they want to make the existing politicians life hell right now for the economic problems and mostly for the expenses scandal. I'm not one of them, I'm just saying that is probably the most logical explanation for why his support is going up... the politicians should have been far cleverer in exposing him... all they did was batter him and it has backfired dramatically.

I think that the main reason is just that alot of people really are quite prejudiced or racist. They see the obvious problems that are going on and automatically believe that it is the fault of brown people or people from other countries instead of realising that all our nations woes are down to an 'elite' of white English/Scottish people who purposely create these problems for the 'middle' and 'lower' classes. And while the majority of us fight amongst ourselves and blame the wrong people these 'elite' get stronger.

James. Posted 26 October 2009 Posted 26 October 2009 And while the majority of us fight amongst ourselves and blame the wrong people these 'elite' get stronger. Don't worry, as the elite and the rest of us become ever more polarised we will eventually develop a class conciousness and rise up in revolution against the bourgeoisie. It'll all work out alright.

I think most people have alittle prejudiced in them and the immigration law in this country as it stands helps that fact. Take me for instands, jobs (80) are going at my place of work. My place of work employs over 50 polish workers, who no doubt will return to poland after receiving back the money which stands at about £2000 for their bus training and test, this money is taken from their wage at a weekly rate and they get it back after a few years. They do this so new employees cant just walk in, get a psv licence and leave straight away. Now i'll bet my house on this, not one of the Polish lads will be given redundency, even though the majority will go back to Poland. That pisses me off.

I think the main reason is actually 2 fold. Firstly, Labour has moved in from the left to the centre leaving a lot of disenfranchised (I apologise for using such a hideous term) voters. When the Tories moved into the centre with cuddly Cameron conservatism, there was the UKIP outlet, which members towards the right of the Conservative party gravitated towards, and we've seen this party grow in numbers. With traditional Labour voters who feel abandoned (or to use the politician speak) out of touch, there is no such alternative party on the left that airs their grievances, so the BNP becomes the one that supposedly speaks their language on issues of class. The BNP try and hide their racism with attractive policies that appeal to the less well-off (although, as we know in reality, the BNP only speaks for racists). The second issue is immigration and the lack of debate on this topic. For the last decade, it's been very difficult to discuss this issue without being labelled a racist. All 3 main parties have tried to steer clear of this topic as they realise it's a hot potato and highly emotive subject (you can see how the Tories were attacked under Michael Howard when they put a manifesto pledge about immigration into their electoral platform). Consequently, those who have concerns on the pace of immigration (and I mean genuine concerns, not based on racism, which I'll outline one or two below) have no outlet for their vote. Although I believe immigration is long-term beneficial for the country, in the short-term, it does create a dislocation in society. For example, if there is an influx of cheaper labour from Eastern Europe, the result is likely that wage inflation is kept lower for manual jobs, which disproportionately affects the lower working classes, who see their wage levels under pressure, as oppose to those in better paid jobs who benefit from cheaper goods and services. At the same time, if there is an immigration of something like 600,000 in a short space of time from Eastern Europe, this puts pressure on our public services. Yes, it's true that tax is being paid as they work, however, it takes time to build new schools, doctors' clinics, etc, so there is another slight short-term disconnect, whilst these new services are being built/trained. None of these issues are being addressed, which leaves a vacuum for filth like the BNP.

I agree with most of that, it maybe surprising to hear but ethnic minorities are also worried about immigration.....this issue isn't one of race but of resources, the fact that the government wash over the failures of immigration and fail to declare the positives of it has lead the media, the ignorants to use the issue for there own means!

There's also no clarity between permanent immigrants, asylum seekers & transient workers etc they all seem to be lumped under the title immigation. Well I'm often confused by who people are talking/writing about. It's bit like calling half the world Asian.

ANother excellant point, the fact that the different types of immigrationis not clear, has left the system up for abuse eg a person comes on a student visa, plays the system and reapplies asking for a different type of visa\immigration status to extend his stay. Basically the whole system is very badly managed! Talking from experience, I know many a people have been playing the system for years, there are lawyers and specialist, for a small fee that can virtually keep you in the country for years...............
