Father Ted Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 Obviously it would be nice to have such a 'legend' here but admit it, there is a reason why he retired. Andy King in 2009 is better than Edgar Davids in 2009. Discuss.
StanSP Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 How can you tell? Davids hasn't played this year.
Shane Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 How can you tell? Davids hasn't played this year. This. Dont judge Davids, until you see him play. (If he plays ever again, that is)
bjblyth Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 How can you tell? Davids hasn't played this year. x2

Discuss. Impossible to say without seeing how much Davids has deteriorated as a player. But King's record speaks for itself and very loudly if it's studied carefully. And I'm quite sure ex-defender and now coach Chris Powell didn't say "King should start every game" without having good reason. From recent evidence I would say if might be Matt Oakley's job that was most under threat were he not the captain. But fortunes change and we are not overstocked with central midfielders anyway. Someone important will get injured soon you can bet on it. Probably Davids!
Hitesh Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 How can you tell? Davids hasn't played this year. Interesting comment! But surely that says a lot too - does he have the fitness levels to compete in this league??
StanSP Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 Interesting comment! But surely that says a lot too - does he have the fitness levels to compete in this league?? True. It works both ways and not just in the way I stated. But if what we've heard is correct, then he has kept his fitness levels up. Or at least worked to get his fitness levels up recently.

Budweiser Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 No matter what, there is no chance King has the skill Davids has, even at this age. It's a stupid statement really, considering Davids hasn't played this year. IF Davids signs, we will see after a while im sure.
maddog Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 Interesting comment! But surely that says a lot too - does he have the fitness levels to compete in this league?? Well we saw what Stringer had to go through when he did the medical, so if Davids isn't fit enough to pass that we won't sign him IF it gets that far anyway.
Manderic's pants Posted 23 October 2009 Posted 23 October 2009 King still has a long time to improve and Davids is only going to get worse. Perhaps 'King in 2011 is better than Davids in 2011' might be more accurate. I still think Davids has got a season left in him...
Super Arj Posted 23 October 2009 Posted 23 October 2009 quite pointless to say something like this to be honest. although andy kind has been brilliant, having edgar davids in the team wouldn't be of any harm to us. If he didn't play, he could still offer a learning curve to players such as andy king.. as there is a reason why edgar davids was one of the best players in the world in his day.
suffolk fox Posted 23 October 2009 Posted 23 October 2009 no-one seems to be mentioning that when Davids left Ajax he went over to the States to play footie. Over there he broke one of his legs. This, along with the fact, he is aged 36years old, concerns me a lot. IF we sign him I hope he doesn't prove he is a journeyman , looking on City as a meal ticket? Yes, Davids has been there and done it in Europe and on the international scene. I would rather we have youth playing anyday. Play King, have Davids if he signs, come off the bench for the last 20 minutes if needed. With King, Oakley and Wellens in our midfield one of those will be dropped, it won't be Oakley he is club captain that leaves King and Wellens? Wellens doesn't deserve to be dropped he has set a lot of goals up this season?

That's a hell of a pay packet for a mentor mate

I have yet to see where KING can be called a good player as he goes missing in a lot of matches and his attacking skills are not very good, he also has the annoying habit of prefering to play the ball sideways or backwards a lot of the time. He was good last season but that was in a lower league, where he was given time on the ball, this league wont give you that right. But having said all that our midfielders have been woeful this year....... Wellens does his best but he cant do it all, I think that is why we are forever lumping up to Howard and bypassing midfield because there is no-one with the craft and guile to open up defences

Dan Posted 23 October 2009 Posted 23 October 2009 Am I the only one who thinks Andy King is very over-rated by the Leicester fans? Derby was his best game by far this season. Fair enough he doesn't make many mistakes, but I strongly have to question his impact on a game, I know he's only young but unless he starts to impact games more often then he'll never make it in the Premier League.
