Matt Posted 29 November 2009 Posted 29 November 2009 AMIR KHAN has given the green light to a £50million showdown with Ricky Hatton, booming: Let's get it on.'The Hitman' revealed in Sport of the World last weekend that he would be willing to face the 2004 Olympic silver medallist. A fight between the pair next summer would be the biggest in British boxing history and draw a 100,000 crowd to Wembley Stadium. Hatton, admits his career is coming to an end, but knows a farewell fight against Bolton's sensation would be an amazing retirement party. And British boxing's number one idol hopes he will be risking the IBF light-welterweight title against the young upstart who is unbeaten in 18 contests. Hatton will attempt to regain his old crown when he faces American Paulie Malignaggi in Las Vegas on November 22. And Khan, 21, who defends his WBO intercontinental lightweight title against Colombian Breidis Prescott at Manchester's MEN Arena on September 6 said: "What a fight it would be. "I've always said I want to move up the weights to light-welterweigh, maybe in 12 months, and if Ricky is still around that fight could be made. "It would be a massive fight, both of us come from Manchester and it is a fight that people would want to watch. "It would be one of the biggest British fights ever." The only serious stumbling block concerning Hatton is over who would promote the fight. Hatton is keen to promote the fight under the banner of his own company, Punch Promotions, in association with Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions. And the 29-year-old would insist that Khan's current promoter Frank Warren is not involved. Warren promoted Hatton until the pair fell out shortly after the Manchester fighter signalled his arrival as one of the world's best when he stunned Kostya Tszyu in June 2005. He has told pals that although he views Khan as a friend, he would fight him "at the drop of a hat". Hatton said: "Amir has got bags of potential, but he has a lot of catching up to do. If the fight did happen I'd be up for the challenge. "And if I could promote it, even better. Amir would get the financial rewards he deserves." Would love this fight to happen. In my head my initial thoughts are Hatton would batter Khan in reality I think it would be quite a hard fight for Hatton though. Seeing Hatton at recent fights though i'm wondering if he should come back, He's huge again, it can't be good to binge when you're not in training then go mad when you start training, e.t.c. As much as I want to see a Hatton fight 'live' I think he would lose alot of respect coming back.
sdb Posted 29 November 2009 Posted 29 November 2009 £50 million? Where does the sport get such money?! Am I missing something?
Edmund Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 £50 million? Where does the sport get such money?! Am I missing something? It's watched worldwide on pay per view tv
Sir Fynwy Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 'Britains number one idol', which one of these is supposed to hold that title? This is another circus show in the making, Hatton should retire honourably and Khan needs to get his head down if he's going to make the most of his ability.

Agreed, I have more time for Rendall Munroe and Carl Froch to be honest. <_<
Uncle Albert Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 Well they clearly are the two biggest Boxer's Britain has apart from Haye now, so this is massive. If you asked people to name two British boxers then they would probably say Hatton and Khan. Carl Froch? Anyway hope this goes down, will be massive and the hype before will be insane!! Wembley surely has to host it. Will be backing Hatton over Khan.

Hatton is over and Khan is starting out on a career which may or may not prove to be glorious, neither of them are worth a $1m purse let alone a $50m fight at this point, you'd have to be seriously gullible to think this was about anything but taking money of dumb punters.

Luckily though, I wasnt asking people to name British Boxers I was saying I have more interest in watching more local lads boxing rather than the media hype (not to mention paying £15 for the privilege of watching it on my own TV!) I just find it more interesting thats all. I have nothing against Hatton or Khan in the slightest, Id just rather watch Rendall or Carl fight to be honest I wouldnt mind who won between Hatton or Khan to be fair, as theyre both British.
davieG Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 Judging from the state Hatton was in when I saw him on TV recently he'd have to get into some serious training and weight loss to even contemplate such a bout. But we've seen over weight out of condition boxers before come back for a last big pay day and embarrass themselves.

Last time I saw him on TV he looked like he'd be more suited to taking on Haye, Hatton has always put on loads of weight between fights but he really has let himself go now. I think he'll try to get one or two more paydays in before calling it a day but he should really give it up now or risk looking stupid.

A win win situation for Hatton, most people in the boxing world and including Hatton know he;s well past his sell by date. If he wins then another massive pay day, if he loses, it will be nice send off, with little face lost, as most expect him to lose!!
Finnegan Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 To be fair to Hatton it wouldn't be the first time he's gained weight on a break between fights and it's not like it's been literally years since his last match. That said, beyond money he's got absolutely nothing to gain and a fair bit of respect to lose. Still, it's a lot of cash.
Uncle Albert Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 I think personally Hatton deserves the big money from fights as does Khan, one Khan is a world champion and two Hatton has fought 44 fights (I think) and lost to two of the best boxers ever in Mayweather and Pacquiao. Really, really want this fight to happen the best possible night would be Hatton v Khan and Mayweather v Pacquaio in the same night!
Tommeh Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 I don't buy all this win win for Hatton stuff. He's had a excellent career and has lost just 2 fights against the 2 finest fighters of recent times. Hatton looses this his career will end on a big low and suddenly the 3 losses at the end with completely override his previous 12 years reputation in the sport. Really like Ricky think he's had a great stint but let it go this fight won't do much for either except line pockets.

You sound like a mug punter, Khan has yet to prove much in the proffessional game as he's had a pretty easy ride so far and Hatton is just looking for some easy money, it would be a nothing fight. Mayweather v Pacquaio is a realistic fight if Mayweather wants to take it.
Samilktray Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 Nothing remotely exciting about this fight. Hattons a horrible boxer to watch, and all the anti-Khan brigade will be out in force. Khan has no reason to fight a has been.

And I care on what you think of me because? Khan has hardly had it easy either, I dont really like Khan but he has fought some good fighters, was a big hit to Khan when he lost to Prescott but he cameback and won the World title. World Champions deserve the big money at the end of the day, look at that Japenese fighter who Munroe is expected to get a shot at, Munroe has got to pay silly amounts of money to him to get him to come out of Japan to fight. Why wont Mayweather want to take it? He has already said he wants to fight Pacman!

purpleronnie Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 Agreed they seem to fight for different reasons. I just hope it happens.
BoneDog Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 I didn't know they were still talking about a Hatton/Khan fight? That article must be over a year old cos it says that Khan is fighting Prescott in September and that was 2008 It might be an entertaining fight if Hatton can get back in shape and is still hungry. If they do have a fight though I can't see Khan having many problems winning it.
