Went to Arran in March and polished off the sauternes cask I purchased last night.

Been having a lot more recently and safe to say I'm officially a whisky man now.

Been on a stag do this weekend and had some Jameson Triple Triple, Glenmorangie 12, Glenfiddich 12 and this beauty

I'm off to a whisky festival in Sheffield on Saturday, very much looking forward to it over 350 whiskies to sample from distilleries all over the world. I'm planning on sleeping all day Sunday...

The only downside is it doesn't look like my favourite distillery (Highland Park) will be at the event

Long way to come from Orkney, but it does a great distillery tour with the added advantage of being in a town, so you can have a drink without worrying about driving.

I'm hoping to get up there to do the tour at some point in the next few years! I just need to save up some money because I know if they have a shop attached to the distillery I'll end up spending a fortune...

Picked up a Toki Suntory a few days ago.

I see Japanese signs, I buy.

Not sure if this has been said before, but as your Whisk(e)y palate matures, look for the 3 C's: Cask strength (i.e. not already watered down and usually between 46 - 60% ABV, you can then add water too your own taste), no added Caramel (E150) colouring (E150 can affect the original flavour profile) and non-Chill filtered (chill filtering removes organic particles to ensure that the spirit does not cloud (scotch mist) if ice or water is added - again thought to affect the flavour profile. Slainte and enjoy the journey responsibly and definitely without succumbing to Whisky Snobbery. Up the Foxes.

Any recommendations for a bottle of Whiskey for the FIL? Not a drinker myself so not sure what’s good or not.

A lot of offers on atm in supermarkets, Sainsbury’s have got a Jameson black barrel triple distilled on offer from £40 down to £27

Always difficult recommending whisky (or in this case whiskey) for someone else, but that Jameson's Black Barrel should be a nice whiskey for most I'd think.
