marbelladave Posted 6 December 2009 Posted 6 December 2009 People have such short memories. We played with wingers early this season, usually Dyer and N'Guessan but with two men up and two men wide we were getting overrun in central midfield, even in games we started out bossing. It was this weakness, apparent last season too, that led to Oakley being deployed in the right midfield position to give us more presence when needed. He naturally played quite narrow and this unbalanced the side, Pearson has been trying to sort this out pretty much ever since. He has tried an 'asymmetric' 4-4-2 with one defensive and one attacking wide man, a 4-4-2 diamond and some variations on 4-2-2-2 / 4-3-1-2, all pretty much without success. (QPR excepted) It is testimony to the strength of character of both Pearson and his team that despite all these issues, we have been in the playoff positions pretty much all season. I have been hammering on for weeks, months even, that our squad is crying out to play a 4-3-3 / 4-5-1 system but the first obstacle that had to be overcome was the 'sainted' Fryatt / Howard partnership. With that now a thing of the past and Fryatt well off the boil, maybe this is the time to make the change? Suggestions include King and Wellens holding, Gallagher or Adams in an attacking midfield role, Yanni or Waghorn to lead the line with real pace, Dyer, N'Guessan or Waghorn deployed either side. If we are chasing the game and need a goal, who better than Fryatt to come of the bench as an extra striker? You have the players to try all kinds of variations in that system and guess what, the players are all playing pretty much in their natural positions.
Jimmy Posted 6 December 2009 Posted 6 December 2009 Give Astrit a go! I see he's been handed a shirt number yesterday, so who knows? he's had a shirt number all season and been nowhere near the side
Candidcamera Posted 6 December 2009 Posted 6 December 2009 They don't become a bad side overnight but need some changes- Weale Morrison Hobbs Brown Berner Adams Wellens Oakley N'Guessan Waghorn Fryatt Shame that Gradel is not available ! An alternative is to have 3 centre backs with Adams RB and Dyer LB
mmarkie Posted 6 December 2009 Posted 6 December 2009 he's had a shirt number all season and been nowhere near the side Wasn't on the OS till yesterday though.

Jimmy Posted 6 December 2009 Posted 6 December 2009 Wasn't on the OS till yesterday though. its been on and off the OS constantly, half the time Burns and Pentney aren't on their either but both have squad numbers

demon_dog Posted 6 December 2009 Posted 6 December 2009 Any player whom is prepared to come out of the starting blocks from the off and maintain the momentum for a full 90+ minutes will suit me. Would like to see a proper 4-4-2 formation, no square peg, round hole fixes. Wingers who stay on the wing. NO Fryatt, prefer to see Waghorn and Gallagher up front.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 6 December 2009 Posted 6 December 2009 I really thing Gallaghers important to our squad. I rate him highly, he looks like a premiership player, and we need to utilise his ability better.
dayday Posted 6 December 2009 Posted 6 December 2009 Nigel Pearson has allready said there will be changes and for me he has to sort the midfield out. We need the midfield to contribute in the goals column...Wellens,Oakley and king have got 1 goal between them all season. Though who do you play in midfield? we really are limited.
WardyisPukka Posted 6 December 2009 Posted 6 December 2009 N'Guessan has to start , hes the only pacy winger we have !!
Cropwellfox Posted 6 December 2009 Posted 6 December 2009 Maynard will make an arse of Brown if he plays, and this highights how we're short of defensive options with Tunch crocked. No way that NP would leave both Brown and Oakley out no matter how limited they are - Oakley at RB another option?? Weale Neilson Morrison Hobbs McGivern N'Guessan King Wellens Adams Gallagher Waghorn Subs: Logan, Fryatt, Yann, Oakley, Brown, Dyer, Gradel(recalled)
ThorpeAstleyFox Posted 6 December 2009 Posted 6 December 2009 Weale (GK) Nielson (RB) Hobbs (CB) Brown (CB) Berner (LB) Wellens (DM) Oakley (RM) Dyer (LM) Gallagher (AM) Kermorgant (ST) Waghorn (ST) Subs: Pentney, Morrison, McGivern, King, N'Guessan, Adams, Fryatt
markbsac Posted 6 December 2009 Posted 6 December 2009 get nicky adams back in that side and keep him in that side...the lads impressed me since he first came to the club with his attitude and his commitment.............galagher/fryatt upfront.....get morrison back in that defence..and i prey for a tunch quick return !
Lillehamring Posted 6 December 2009 Posted 6 December 2009 weale morrison - hobbs - brown - berner (2 of wellens/oakley/king - centre mids) - (2 of n'guessan/gallagher/adams - wingers)yann - waghorn i can't see him dropping berner as he has proved to be pretty consistant and mcgivern very poor... can't see him dropping hobbs or brown, partly because we have no real alternative, and partly cause they have been pretty solid in general. i think fryatt needs a rest, waghorn seems a shoe in, yann seems like he needs a real chance up front the midfield, urgh, the centre players all seem as inconsistant as each other, and i'd like to see two REAL wingers, although i thought gally looked ok pushing forward in the first half against scunny... it's weird, at the start of the season our midfield looked like it could be one of the best in the league but it feels like it's been the weakest point in the team, from what i have seen and read on here, it's the lack of surface from the midfield that seems to have been the biggest factor in the lack of goals. pearson just hasn't found the right balance, against QPR we had Oakley, A King, Wellens, N'Guessan - i wouldn't be surprised if we saw that again. but i think adams must be due a game...
acooling08 Posted 6 December 2009 Posted 6 December 2009 Weale Neilson Hobbs Brown Berner N'Guessan Wellens Oakley Adams Waghorn Gallagher This will never happen but we need 2 fast wingers and why not give Gallagher at least one game in his actual position? Subs: Kermo (Too come on at 70 mins if we are losing) Fryatt & the rest

I dont know why we dont score from midfield but one clar thing that has been a problem for ages now is that we dont score any 'great' goals due to us not having any long shots and always trying to walk it in. N'Guessan has to start , hes the only pacy winger we have !! Dyer is pacy too and for me it is a must they both start on Tues. WealeNeilson Hobbs Brown Berner N'Guessan Wellens Oakley Adams Waghorn Gallagher This will never happen but we need 2 fast wingers and why not give Gallagher at least one game in his actual position? Subs: Kermo (Too come on at 70 mins if we are losing) Fryatt & the rest This team or Dyer in for Adams.
Bugg Posted 6 December 2009 Posted 6 December 2009 This. I dont know why we dont score from midfield but one clar thing that has been a problem for ages now is that we dont score any 'great' goals due to us not having any long shots and always trying to walk it in. I noticed Dyer doing this on Saturday, He put himself in good long shooting positions and seemed to lack the confidence to pull the trigger.
Joe. Posted 6 December 2009 Posted 6 December 2009 No need to panic. Weale Neilson --- Hobbs --- Brown --- Berner N'Guessan --- Wellens --- Oakley --- Dyer Waghorn --- Fryatt Give Lloyd and Dany a chance on the wings, they're probably the best options we have at the moment for those positions. Doesn't realy say a great deal though for what we have out there...
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 6 December 2009 Posted 6 December 2009 I noticed Dyer doing this on Saturday, He put himself in good long shooting positions and seemed to lack the confidence to pull the trigger. The problem yesterday, like it is so many times with Lloyd is that he obviosly can't hit a ball with his right foot, hence the reason he tried to cut in on his left to shoot.
chesterfox Posted 6 December 2009 Posted 6 December 2009 Weale Morrison Hobbs Brown Berner NGuessan Oakley King Dyer Gallagher Fryatt subs: Adams, Wellens, Kermy,Nielsen,Howard no knee jerk a good kick up the jacksy and return to winning ways. Forget the scum - onwards and upwards!!!!
FleckneyFox Posted 6 December 2009 Posted 6 December 2009 Weale Neilson - Morrison - Hobbs - McGivern Adams - Oakley - Wellens - N'Guessan Gallagher - Waghorn Logan - Brown - Berner - King - Dyer - Kermorgant - Fryatt
UrbanFox Posted 6 December 2009 Posted 6 December 2009 GK Weale RB Morrison LB Bruno CB Hobbs CB Brown RM N`Guessan LM Dyer CM Wellens CM Kingy FW Gallagher FW Waggy Bench Fryatt Howard Gradel (recalled from leeds) Kermo Oakley Neilson Logan A 4-0 win thank you very much, and i will sort of forgive you (ish)! how much more do i have to drink today to get myself numb for the pisstaking at work 2moro? im gonna carry on i think
Jimmy Posted 6 December 2009 Posted 6 December 2009 how the hell are so many of you picking Oakley, he is fooking shocking and has been his entire time hear, we got away with it last season as League One was so shit, more often then not when he gets the ball he gives it away
Guest Mee-9 Posted 6 December 2009 Posted 6 December 2009 Would rather play with King and Wellens in the centre, Oakley's been poor this season.
