maddog Posted 23 December 2009 Posted 23 December 2009 Back doing the Optimeter to save the Boxing Day fixture, having not done the Cardiff one and we all know what happened there. Sheffield United have crept up the table recently, i was surprised Cherry Bakewell wasn't sacked a few weeks ago with them lingering in the bottom half of the table, with high expectations of a repeat of their previous season and tipped by many as playoff/promotion favourites. But 4 wins and 3 draws in their last 7 League games have pole vaulted them up to 7th place, a win for them at the Walkers would see them leapfrog above us into the playoff places. And Blackwell has steadied the ship nicely. According to Matt Oakley, quite possibly one of the worst LCFC captains in history, uninspirational, no leadership qualities and shit at football so far all season, we are 'back on track' I see through this BS from the captain though, we haven't played in 2 weeks and won against a Wednesday side horribly off form and inside the drop zone. Still fresh in my mind are the disasters against Forest and Bristol. I wouldn't say we are 'back on track' just yet. I always thought our Boxing Day form was poor for some reason but we haven't lost on Boxing Day in 5 years, a travesty losing 1-0 at home to lowly Rotherham. Highlights in our recent festive games include a good point at Leeds, and wins against Hull and Ipswich, will we pick up another Boxing Day win Saturday Who knows. The team could be interesting. Will NP stick with the side that beat Wednesday, are there any injuries that we haven't heard about, will any of the players still be pissed up on the day and unable to play? The game is also on SKY which will certainly dramatically lower the crowd, a lot of fans who would usually be there will be sitting in their warm houses perhaps having some sort of Boxing Day meal/leftover turkey, or seeing family they didn't see on the big day. This game is also classed as a 'platinum' game. With people low on cash at the best of times in '09, how will they have enough leftover after Christmas spending for rip off platinum LCFC tickets? They won't, the attendence will certainly be less than 20k i rekon. Important to get another 3 points, we certainly don't want the Blades going above us, sadly i think the players will be drunk and stuffed with food, which will make for a stagnant, clumsy affair, i'm thinking a repeat of the result result at Bramall Lane, if not 1-1, it will be a bore 0-0. Merry Christmas :santa:
davieG Posted 23 December 2009 Posted 23 December 2009 With free entry for kids I reckon the crowd will be higher than you think provided the weather doesn't get worse.
maddog Posted 23 December 2009 Author Posted 23 December 2009 With free entry for kids I reckon the crowd will be higher than you think provided the weather doesn't get worse. Ahh i was just looking on the OS and didn't see that, perhaps 25k maybe.
lcfcadam Posted 23 December 2009 Posted 23 December 2009 the attendence will certainly be less than 20k i rekon. If you look at the online ticket thing it's obvious that it's already more than 20k - easily around about the 23/24k mark EDIT: Sorry I didn't realise you've just said pretty much this above
lou Posted 23 December 2009 Posted 23 December 2009 With free entry for kids I reckon the crowd will be higher than you think provided the weather doesn't get worse. Does this mean I'll get some money back off the club for my kids season ticket?! :w00t:

MC Prussian Posted 23 December 2009 Posted 23 December 2009 Sheffield United - another in-form team. We're playing at home and do usually perform in dire ways at the Walkers. Maybe the longer break in between has done the players some good. Ahead of a very busy schedule, I hope they'll approach this first match over the Christmas period with some more positivity/enthusiasm (having taken the positives out of the last three games). Wingers are the key, as is a steady defense. Oakley's got to play in the middle, alongside Wellens. Fryatt is in need of some goals and what better way to kick off another streak with a win against the Blades? 2-1 to us. Set a sign and win, you ****ers.
Shrenchel Posted 23 December 2009 Posted 23 December 2009 maddog that's the crowd prediction of a lunatic. It's been years since we got a boxing day crowd of less than 20,000.
Corky Posted 24 December 2009 Posted 24 December 2009 They're in a good run of form, but we should be confident after the win over Wednesday. Home win, 2-1.
Shrenchel Posted 24 December 2009 Posted 24 December 2009 I'm predicting a gash draw. Can't say I'm too excited. Used to love boxing day games but in recent years the gold has turned to shit. Always get stuck near loads of goons who are taking their brother-in-law to his first match since last christmas. "that bald bloke still play for you?","who's that black fella then?", "not very good are they", "should come down stamford bridge with me sometime, this is shit." Add kids for a quid into the equation and I'm probably going to assault someone.
Shrenchel Posted 24 December 2009 Posted 24 December 2009 I don't mean one of the kids. Not in an erotic way anyway.
davieG Posted 24 December 2009 Posted 24 December 2009 Sheffield United duo Lee Williamson and Darius Henderson have been ruled out until the beginning of February ahead of the clash at Leicester.
Fox92 Posted 24 December 2009 Posted 24 December 2009 I voted for a defeat Another local side for me and thats why. 2-2 I think though.

And all they do is slag the players off, even when we score. At the Sheffield Wednesday game, when King scored his first, some bloke was saying, "HES SH*T ALWAYS IN THE RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME, THE LAD DOESN'T DESERVE A GOAL" Er? Sit down shut up?
MikeyT Posted 24 December 2009 Posted 24 December 2009 Going to be a tough fought game this one. Thinking maybe a draw for this one. Oh and my friends girlfriend is the half time entertainment on the pitch singing. Just thought i'd say.
Scow Posted 24 December 2009 Posted 24 December 2009 Sheffield United embody the Championship perfectly: organised, well-drilled, physical, dour, cynical and direct. It should make for a cracker.
Guest Bilo Posted 24 December 2009 Posted 24 December 2009 A tough, physical encounter that is going to be about as exciting as going trainspotting with David Blunkett. One goal in it and I fancy it to go our way. Leicester 1 (Howard) Sheff Utd 0
LCFC-ARAB Posted 24 December 2009 Posted 24 December 2009 I can't work out if i'm looking forward to this one or not. Always hated boxing day games for the exact same reason as Shrenchel 2 nil leicester i rekon
RowlattsFox Posted 24 December 2009 Posted 24 December 2009 Got draw written all over it in my opinion, not a very exciting one either. Morgan vs Howard should be a real battle.
Dr The Singh Posted 24 December 2009 Posted 24 December 2009 I'm gonna go totally bladdered to the game, it's got bore fest written all over it!!
