davieG Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 I dont know if it's been mentioned here before, but Sky Sports is a big poison in our game.Whilst they do inject a lot of cash into the game it is very much focused on the clubs that live exclusively in the Premier League. TV money is the dominant force in football nowadays, fans and their pound are very much a poor third best behind telly and sponsorship money, and those you speak of that buy replica shirts and sit in their armchair and never set foot in the stadium of their team are the new breed of fan created in the Sky sports era. I know Greek football very well, and there are teams on the Greek top flight that only have an handful of fans, no more than 1500-2000, and they survive from TV and sponsorship money. The fan is a complete irrelevance and that is a frightening thought. If we ever get promoted and the ticket prices reflect current levels in the Premier league then there's very little doubt that I shall become a armchair fan as you can get to see the matches, in fact the whole Sky package including films for £48/month compared to £30 to £50 / match. If fans and their £s are such an insignificant contribution why are they charged so much? It's not Sky that's the sole problem it's clubs over charging for games.
Webbo Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 it's clubs over charging for games. How many people on here have been moaning about the club not spending any money during the window? No one would deny that the club is losing money so where is the money supposed to come from?
davieG Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 How many people on here have been moaning about the club not spending any money during the window? No one would deny that the club is losing money so where is the money supposed to come from? I'm talking Premier League Clubs, not Championship clubs who are receiving massive Sky payments and was in response to the poster saying Sky was the problem and the fans contribution was insignificant or at least 3rd rating. I think that still stands.
Tomassi Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 I doubt the club could be more family orientated at present. And it's not because they're not encouarged to watch their local team that you see swathes of kids roaming around in Man Ure/Liverpool/Chelsea tops, it's because certain kids are just born cunts. The club do plenty to encourage young'uns to follow City (cheap tickets for local clubs/schools) but when all's said and done there are certain children in this world who are glory hunters. Simple. How can you post such a detrimental statement ''certain kids are just born cunts''? Theres always going to be glory supporters, but if families are more encouraged (I did not mention schools so you missed my point) then there would be more exposure to the kids! I didn't support Leicester as a boy, I was a Liverpool fan. I saw Dean Saunders banging in the goals for fun and he was wearing the red candy shirt. I didnt know about Leicester until i was a little older and then became a fan when my Dad took me to a few games when i was 10/11. Just that make me a born cunt in your eyes then seen the light? My point is that i wasnt exposed to my home club earlier so naturally supported what was a good team on the box as that was the exposure i got to football at a young age

The problem with the premier league is that if Sky give a club £30million then that club will spend £35 million trying to stay in the league, forcing all the other clubs to do the same or more. A bidding war starts with transfer fees and wages over available and quite often very average players forcing up prices. Ideally there would be some sort rule could be brought in to stop this over spending but I don't see how it could work or be enforceable.

I understand that so it's still not Sky's fault it's the clubs, in fact it's also FIFA for allowing too much money to be distributed to clubs for their involvement in the Champions League, they should insist that only a % can be used for transfers or wages. I don't know why I'm having to defend Sky but you simply cannot ignore the Clubs greed and Footballs Administrators for their incompetence/self interests - they are more culpable for the way fans are treated than Sky.

CosbehFox Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 6. Stewards to stop being complete jobsworth cunts hell-bent on ruining everyone's enjoyment of the game. Just read United sent five stewards home without pay on Wednesday night. For wearing a yellow and green scarf which is becoming increasingly popular down Old Trafford in a protest against the Glazer's. (Yellow and Green being Newton Heath's colours of course - I bet you half of the plonkers from Leicester who 'support' them wouldn't get the message from the scarf).
CosbehFox Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 If free tickets to under 8's isn't trying to encourage kids then i dont know what is That's passive encouragement tho. I don't see the club actively encouraging kids. The Family Stand is the least populated stand.

Probably because they're in the other stands as their parents prefer to pay the extra to not have to sit in the Family Stand, or maybe because it's too close to the away fans.
Daggers Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 If free tickets to under 8's isn't trying to encourage kids then i dont know what is I'd be interested to know if the new Lord Mayor has any ideas on how to attract more children? What, with him being influential now and everything.

Stewards get a hard time of things because in the main, they're cunts, including a lot of Yanited's who do not have a great reputation. It surely won't be long until they start asking their stewards to eject fans for anti-Glazer protests, I swear. Just makes me want them to crash and burn that little bit more. Wankers. Oh, and how our club do not do enough to get kids hooked on Leicester City FC I'll never know . "Marks Electrical Family Stand". Under 8's free in said stand. Openly stating they want to create a family-orientated atmosphere; Family Club of the Year ffs! Add that to the tickets they give to schools and the 2 or 3 offers a season they put in the Mercury, they're doing as much as they can, infuriatingly enough. Aside from going out, kidnapping the youngsters and chaining them to seats, they can't really do much more.

Fosse Boy Posted 31 January 2010 Posted 31 January 2010 How can you post such a detrimental statement ''certain kids are just born cunts''? You realise I was being facetious when I said that? Well, obviously not. Anyway, kind of take your point about lack of exposure etc. But that's just football's problem in general. Kids see big clubs on TV more often. The media hype up the big teams all the time. They see the club merch in shop windows up and down the land, and they want in. We're not alone in this respect. There are probably at least 85 other league clubs in the same boat when it comes to attracting local kids.

Its hard to tell what is banter and what is not sometimes in discussions like these, i cannot assume how you mean it simply by looking at text! When i went to America, they set up loads of things for kids/families but also others all around the stadiums in their sports. I went to a baseball game and they had an area where people could go, try things like hitting a home run (in a cordoned off section), meet legends/former players at a signing table, got given loadsa freebies from sponsors (i got fed up after the 7th free can of coke zero ) and a small concert too. there were also cars being shown off amongst others things. All this if you bought a match ticket or were a season ticket holder. The culture is very different to England, but its just some ideas they could implement to make it more of a day to encourage families to come down (who aint gona like freebies ), there are plenty of ideas people can come up with but like you say its hard to compete with the media stream especially when they are consistently showing off the top 4 teams.
The Doctor Posted 2 February 2010 Posted 2 February 2010 LCFC 1. Switch the kop and the north stand + Move the old people who just sit through a whole match yelling abuse at our players into the prawn sarnie brigade stand. 2. No more goal music. 3. If fans can't celebrate without goal music then ban them. 4. Own the stadium out right. 5. Turn parts of the kop into a terrace. Football. 1. Cardiff, Swansea and Wrexham have to relocate into england if they want to continue playing in the english leagues else the have to bugger off back to wales. 2. Clubs banned from spending more than 50% of their income on transfers (more if having just came out of admin). 3. 3 strikes system - if the referee makes 3+ bad desicions in a game he is automatically relegated to the division below where he'll spend 5 games before he's allowed to return - if he makes 3+ bad desicisions in one of those 5 games he's relegated again and so on. If the relegation happens 3 times then the ref is banned from officiating for a year 4. Sep blatter to be fired and banned from ever returning to football. 5. Offside law changed - None of this "active"/"passive" stuff, you're either onside or offside regardless of where you are in relation to the ball.
weluv Posted 4 February 2010 Posted 4 February 2010 To Leicester City: 1)Get promoted back to the Premiership 2)Bring through some good, young, British players 3)Win the League Cup: To Leeds United: 1)Get back to the Premiership 2)Get Ken Bates Out 3)Keep our youngsters together & play good, attacking, attractive football To Football in General 1)Manchester United to go bust-the shock to the system that is needed to get football off the path of americanisation it's been going down. Until a big club goes to the wall nothing will change. This bond issue will mean over £1bn in debt. For a football club. That is ridiculous. 2)A Salary cap introduced into the game, similar to RL's-maybe a 10:10 rule, in that only 10 players can be paid more than 10k a week, and that wages must not exceed either more than 1/2 of total expenditure, or over a certain figure, say £10m 3)The return of safe standing technology in Grounds, which is the case at rugby and should be the case at football. 4)Severe financial penalties for clubs whose debts are too big, or who simply try to buy their way to a title. 5)Hull City & Wigan Athletic in Division 4 where they belong. They are a f*****g embarassment. 6)Division 1 of: Arsenal, Aston Villa, Birmingham, Blackburn, Burnley, Chelsea, Everton, Fulham, Leicester, Liverpool, Man City, Newcastle, Nottingham Forest, Portsmouth, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, Southampton, Sunderland, Tottenham, West Ham, Wolverhampton

Would agree with points 1, 2,3 and 4 but 5 ... Is that really justifiable, relegating a team down to League 2/Division 4 for being an embaressment? how are they an embaressment anyway? The only thing i can thing of is that they can't fill their grounds but most clubs don't seem to able to so picking on hull and wigan for that seems to be perculiar.
The Doctor Posted 5 February 2010 Posted 5 February 2010 More nudity what like skimply dressed cheerleaders a la american football?
Guest Mee-9 Posted 5 February 2010 Posted 5 February 2010 LCFC3. If fans can't celebrate without goal music then ban them. And have an average attendance of 200 every game?
The Doctor Posted 5 February 2010 Posted 5 February 2010 And have an average attendance of 200 every game? if it will get rid of goal music then that's fine by me.
