I swear that at a particular game, it may have been Sheffield Wednesday (not sure why they pop into my mind but there must be a reason) there were people sitting on the roof of one of the stands at Filbert Street. I remember being dead scared for them in case they fell off. Someone tell me this actually happened and people sat up there because it's like my earliest memory ever and you'll ruin my life if it didn't. Now tell us yours!

I can't remember that happening in the 90's. Sure it wern't the guys on Bentleys roof? I actually can't remember going to the first game as i was very young, but can remeber a view of being in the double decker upper tier, only went twice up there in the 94/95 season so it must be from then.
Ozwin Posted 5 February 2010 Author Posted 5 February 2010 I can't even remember most of Filbert Street anymore, my family weren't big football goers so I didn't go too much until the later years but then again that was the odd match and Family Night Football for a quid to watch the ressies.

OR Sitting in the top tier of the Kop, over towards the away fans against Forest. Think I remember the usual coin exchange between us and them.... Pretty much cemented my love for City. Don't remember anyone sitting on the roof of a stand, only Bentley's (as someone else said...)

Used to hate it when i was younger then all of a sudden i just really got into it. The first game i ever went to was at Filbert street in Peter Taylor's first season. It was against Charlton and we won 2-1, with Gunlaugsson getting both goals if i remember correctly.

Hitesh Posted 5 February 2010 Posted 5 February 2010 I think my first game was watching us play Stoke and we were 3-0 down at half time. I think it was 3-2 in the end with Walshy getting a couple in the second half. I also think it was the season we got promoted (95/96) and I went to quite a few games that season. Saw Stoke twice aswell as we drew 0-0 with them in the first leg of the play-off - thats probably the game I remember the most of.

That was Cambridge United on the Tuesday Night after Easter. We won 2-1 and I believe there was about 5-600 people locked out.
Candidcamera Posted 5 February 2010 Posted 5 February 2010 It is difficult to remember exactly my first match but I think it was towards the end of the 1964/65 season. I saw Gordon Banks at his best. He had big gloves which must have mean't big hands and at times his arms I swear went to the ball wherever it was. City were great in those days and Sinclair and Dougan were great heroes. Davie Gibson was a midfielder of supreme class. But why oh why did we sell Doug after such a short time ? I was devastated.
marbelladave Posted 5 February 2010 Posted 5 February 2010 Watching Arthur Rowley play in our Division 2 winning season 1956-57. I was very young and cannot remember much but I do remember seeing Rowley and being disappointed that hes shot did not actually scorch the turf as I had been lead to believe. I can also remember, in the last home game of the season, the opposition lined up either side clapping us on to the field, then going on to give us a thrashing. Can't remember who though. We were presented with the Division 2 Shield after the game, remember that too. Used to go 2 up on my dad's bike, no car in those days, the houses behind the Popular side used to store the bikes in their back yatds for a few pennies as I recall! And yes, Victoria was still Queen!..

Mine's Blackburn at home in the season they won the league and we went down. My dad's work had a corporate gig in the Carling Stand (shocking that that's how I watched my first football game, I know) and he took me along. I sat outside the box for the whole game transfixed. The next game I went to was with him and my Grandad against Everton. We went in The Kop this time, and I've been hooked ever since. Got the all yellow away strip for my sixth birthday too.

Early season home game against West Ham, England had just won the World Cup and 4 players from the England team were playing. We won 5-4 (Jackie Sinclair scored a hat-trick if I recall). Re earlier post, I can remember fans on top of the East Stand and I'm sure it was a cup replay - Manchester City I think in 1968(?).

I just remember my dad going completely apeshit and screaming at a load of kids, shaking me and scaring me shitless. I vaguely remember looking up at a small TV mounted on a wall and distinctly remember the words 'promotion' and seeing a 2-1 scoreline. That's the earliest thing I remember.

easilee Posted 5 February 2010 Posted 5 February 2010 My earliest memory was our school footie team being taken by the P.E teacher to watch City v Stoke. Must have been about 1979/80. We lost. It was my first match though and i loved it.
