OK, hypothetical situation for a second.

Let's say the MDL saw an explosion in membership as a result of EDL violence across the country against Muslims. It grows to around 2,000 and organises protests in towns where the EDL are prominent or where the BNP have got a foothold, really sensitive areas. When the MDL roll up in their MDL branded tops they abuse white people left, right and centre. They smash up shops owned by white people and sing songs they know will be offensive to Jews and Christians.

Would you excuse the MDL for their actions because of what the EDL did in the first place?

would the UAF hypocrites make an appearance to violently fight off the islamic thugs for the rights of the good folk in these areas to have EDL opinions ?

You should be a politician

i know my limitations , i'm no ultra :)

just trying to see all sides of a very complicated argument , it really isn't as black and white as most ( not all ) seem to suggest

some FT posters are like fookin bull terriers though , they just won't let go ( nothing wrong with that of course ) and good to see so many young people involved in genuine discussion ,

it really did'nt happen so much when i was younger as discussions such as this it usually took place in pubs etc

with the obvious results :)

good work chaps on both sides

EDL should protest against the hierarchy, not the average working class minority. I actually agree with the fundamental issues that concerns EDL.

When you have so many different ethnic groups in a single country, effectively you have so many different interest groups with different goals and aims, that it makes it impossible for a large scale revolt or antipathy towards the policies emanating out of Westminster, and most of the immigrants are apolitical anyway and concern themselves with their everyday business. It's used effectively as a way of making the natives lose their voice. You lose that sense of community and the national identity (not in the Xenophobic sense) but that greater cultural and ethnic bind and that's good news if you're a politician or a businessman. You can pass as many laws as you like without much concern for rebuke except from some sections in the media, Business can freeze or drive down wages because of the competition created. So this "open door" policy regarding immigrations is not some noble idea.

The only problem is that those who understand this issue cannot articulate this valid point without coming across as extreme xenophobes - which is what EDL are doing unfortunately. If their anger was directed at the right people, I would support them. It's just another case of divide and conquer sadly.

As I said, EDL should hire me as their political strategist, policy maker and PR machine. ;)

Yes it is all interesting.

Back in the day people only had their social circles to converse with and generally the people you choose as your friends you do so because they hold the same beliefs as you - so everyone pretty much nodded along in agreement.

Forums like this, and the internet in general, allow people who would never get together otherwise to 'talk' about current affairs and as such you're going to get opposing opinions, it's just a question of how you fight your case - some people ignore it, some get angry, some get educational, some get abusive, some get witty - but it all makes for interesting reading :D

I try not to take things too seriously or get too upset, but I can specifically see why people would act like bull terriers on this subject - there's just no excuse for racism, homophobia and violence in the modern day.

So what would you suggest the Government do to bring back our sense of national identity?

So what would you suggest the Government do to bring back our sense of national identity?

The men especially, when looking at his forum and society in general are sexually frustrated ( me included), this leads to men venting there frustrations by joining right wing groups, typing shit on forums, and dropping there pants on civil duties.

The government needs to address this issue and inturn use it to install some sort of national identity!!!

How dare you, you lefty.

The EDL are an entirely peaceful group and those people were all UAF plants there to make the wonderful EDL look bad.

you really are a clown, that behavour is disgusting and sick, no one could defend it. But again the majority of the EDL are getting labelled for the actions of a minority. You cant argue it, 2000 EDL members there and 100/200 involved in trouble

Why don't we turn this into something they can relate to?;

All footballs fans are hooligans

How could you not know any of this?! Not even an incline?

You see well informed when you're making opinions that suit your outlook/opinions

I mean the bit about one of the leaders being a Sikh. No I didn't know. But then, I have no great interest in the EDL, and certainly don't listen to propoganda (sp) about them, nor do I visit websites to learn about them.

Not sure how you've plucked this 100/200 figure out of the air but that, if it were real, would equate to 10% of those present.

That is much, much higher than any football club so far as I can see and tells you all you need to know about the kind of people associated with the EDL.
