All three MPs in Leicester itself are Labour MPs and the council is also Labour controlled. Leicestershire may be fairly Tory but that holds true for many similar communities comprised of a mix of rural villages and small towns. Once again though, you're assuming that people prepared to stand against racism are left-wing and those who aren't must be right-wing, when in actual fact the Tories have vociferously opposed the BNP and other racist groups as much as Labour have.

Some families with prams were cowering in the corner, the fighting literally stopped as people shouted the families might get hit. They allowed them to leave and then got stuck into each other again. When you have scores of people chanting "Allah is a paedo" you can't really claim your protesting against the tiny minority of muslims that have links to extremism, it's damn right insulting to any muslim. If the EDL is only about protesting against extremist Islam, then someone up top really needs to hire a PR department and sort out the hundreds of people that give a completely different impression.
