Old Skool Chants

The Doug was a great player. We got him from the Posh for £25,000 and Matt Gillies reserrected his career, He was such a prolific hard worker, and superb in hunting down and scoring goals. A great header of the ball.

I never could work out why we sold him to Wolves for £50,000.

Doog was one of my favourite players as a nipper. I was very upset when we sold him to Wolves.

Gillies was a great manager, I probably preferred him to O'Neill, but that may just be nostalgia. When he sold Banks and Dougan within the space of a few weeks though, no one could understand it and it ultimately led to his downfall. We never replaced Dougan, and although many would disagree, for me we never replaced Banks either. Don't get me wrong Shilton was a great keeper, but he had a tendency to fumble crosses (he was nicknamed "Dracula" by some) and he was still young in those days so would still make the odd blunder in the learning curve, but I have never seen another keeper like Banks in his prime, he was just unbeatable.

To Peter Shilton on his first return to Filbert St playing for Stoke.

The whole of the kop singing

Frankie f***ed your missus, Frankie f***ed your missus, la la la la la la

Classic!

Talking of Shilton, given his legend status nowadays, it's easy to forget how hated he was for a long while after he left Leicester, similar to Mattock in many ways. Publicly slated the club's ambition, requested a transfer to worm his way out, only to make a distinctly sideways move to Stoke.

Anyone remember when he came back with Forest in the late 70's early 80's, just after it had come out in the press he had cheated on his wife? He took some slating from the Leicester crowd that day.

Dad was bought up on New Parks in Leicester, Says his mate went round spray painting "The Doog" all around town. Classic.

Just looking around the internet and found this chant...

I see the Doug, the Doug sees me

We brought him out of Division Three

He scored the goals, we made him king

But now he's gone away

Over the Midlands to Molineux

Starting afresh and starting anew

He scored the goals, They made him king

Dougan forevermore

Doug, Doug, Doug, Doug, Doug...

Found another one...

Once upon a time there was a Spion Kop

Where we used to throw a can or two

Where we used to while away the hours

Watching the boys in Royal Blue

These were the days my friend

We took the Stretford End

We took the Shed the North Bank Highbury

We'd fight and never lose

We'd live the life we choose

Oh yes these were the days

If you don't know 'em, learn 'em for Saturday. Especially relevant as we brought Doog out of Division 3 from Peterborough. :chant:

I remember two slightly different versions of a couple of the chants posted here:

Tip toe through the Trent with a razor and a sawn off shotgun

Tip toe through the Trent End with me....

We don't carry flick knives, we don't carry lead

We only carry hatchets, to bury in your head

We are loyal supporters, fanatics everyone

We all hate the Villa, Millwall and West Brom

Only just seen this, quality song. Heard a few old boys singing this in the Kop a couple of months ago, didn't know the words though.

In the lovely Leicester Chronicle this month there's an article by Gary Silke about ye olden days down that Filbert Street and it lists a few songs, most of which have been quoted here already, but what caught my eye was an extra verse to the above, which I've not heard before even though we used to always sing that song at Filbo.

Tip toe through the West End, with your handbag and a tube of lipstick

Tip toe through the West End with me

What's that all about then?

To the tune of "Distant Drums" (look it up), whilst all pointing at the away fans:

I smell the smell of distant bums.

Over there, over there,

And do they smell ?

Like ****ing hell!

Those Were The Days

I See The Doog

We Don't Carry Razors

Lenny Glover

Tiptoe Through The Trent End

There's a Circus In the Town

All got airings on Saturday. Amazing how our support let so many great songs go by the wayside over time. Leicester Retro is the way forward.

Does anyone know the full words to "This Great Team" by the way? Had it going on Saturday but can't remember most of the lines. Also, does anyone know a song called "Shine Up Your Buttons"?

Agree completely - these are class.

I hope they don't become commonplace though - there's nothing more satisfying that hearing a song you'd forgotten about just at the right time in a match/season...
