Sparky Posted 25 February 2010 Posted 25 February 2010 Im working in Northolt/Southall tomoorow and i am lodging over tomorrow night before trying to race back for Forest saturday lunchtime. Is there anywhere you would recommend in the surrounding area(within 3/4 miles) for few beers and decent curry. Does not look like a lot happens in Northolt/Southall

General Smuts Posted 26 February 2010 Posted 26 February 2010 I'm a bit far out of London to be specific also but theres only one place in London for a curry - Brick Lane.
Ric Flair Posted 26 February 2010 Posted 26 February 2010 If you want curries then Brick Lane is a must. You're also in Shoreditch, which is superb for boozing. My favourite place for a few beers is Angel though. You get off the tube and there's a good mile long strip of really good pubs, bars and quality restaurants. With Brick Lane, you've got a 5-10 minute walk from either Liverpool Street or the tube stations round that area. The Flying Scotsman right next to Kings Cross might wet your bell afterwards.
Uncle Albert Posted 26 February 2010 Posted 26 February 2010 My Auntie and Uncle used to live in Northolt, very decent down there. Cracking Chinese takeaway!

Our James. is a big fan of it (and Monk too I believe). I've been meaning to go dor a while. I've never had a bad curry down Brick Lane though, and I go in a different restaurant every time. Only costs about £15 for everything (excluding starters), with drinks, if you play your cards right! Sparky, since you're in the Southall area, don't bother heading t'other side of London to Brick Lane. Like Vålerenga says, Southall is a massive Asian community so you should be spoilt for choice.

Just thinking of their mixed grill makes me drool.
James. Posted 26 February 2010 Posted 26 February 2010 Apparently a new place has opened up just round the corner from Tayyabs that's just as good but without the (sometimes) ridiculous queues. Can't remember the name of it though, will find out.
James. Posted 26 February 2010 Posted 26 February 2010 It's not Mirch Masala is it? No, it's Needoo Grill.

In which direction? I'm often in the area (at the Business Design Centre) but never seem to find anything that stunning. Do you mean if you head along Upper Street from the station, or am I looking in the wrong place?

Do you mean if you head along Upper Street from the station, or am I looking in the wrong place? Yeah he'll definitely mean Upper Street. There are shitloads of bars and restaurants and I find they get better the further you go from Angel and the closer you get to Highbury & Islington. From memory the Gallipoli restaurants are nice and the restaurant in the Almeida (sp?) theatre is meant to be good. Plus Keston Lodge I think it's called is a popular bar as well as Medicine Bar amongst others. I rarely go there anymore but it is pretty cool.
martyn Posted 26 February 2010 Posted 26 February 2010 Keston Lodge ("affectionately" known as Cocaine Lodge) is an ok establishment, but is frequented by morons of the highest order. There are indeed a couple of nice bars heading up towards Highbury and Islington, "Wax Jambu" and "The Library". Spent many hours there when I was living in Highbury. Some lovely and inexpensive restaurants on Upper Street as well, it's more known for its bars but for eating I can't think of many better concentrations in London. I agree with the notion that Brick Lane is extremely hit and miss.
