MikeyT Posted 21 April 2010 Posted 21 April 2010 http://www.thebluearmy.co.uk/news/Leicester-City-s-DJ-Campbell-stay-Blackpool/article-2045521-detail/article.html Out-of-favour Leicester City striker DJ Campbell remains a permanent target for Blackpool, the Mercury understands. The clubs were in negotiation over a transfer last summer – but the Seasiders were put off by the player's wage demands. However, a deal could be brokered once the Championship season comes to an end. Campbell still has a year to run of his contract at the Walkers Stadium, but he appears to have no future at City. They off-loaded him to allow manager Nigel Pearson to bolster his squad as the club attempted to cement their place in the Championship play-off picture. An alternative could be another loan switch for Campbell, perhaps for the whole season. A source close to Blackpool said the fee would be "no problem" for the Seasiders, but Campbell might have to lower his sights in terms of his wages. "I think when the permanent move was first discussed DJ thought he would get a chance at Leicester, but that has not been the case," said the source. "He would have to take a drop in wages but at 28 he's got to think about the future and he's enjoying it at Blackpool and they rate him." A Blackpool FC spokesman confirmed there had been negotiations in the past between the two clubs about the former Brentford and Birmingham striker. But he said manager Ian Holloway would be unlikely to discuss the matter of Campbell's future. He said: "The manager's focus is purely on the last two games of the season. Everything else is for after then." Campbell's seven goals during his second productive loan stay at Bloomfield Road have kept Blackpool snapping at the heels of City and the other play-off contenders. And Campbell has admitted that he would be seen as a "Judas" figure in the eyes of City fans if he scored the goals which denied his parent club a play-off spot. Campbell also scored nine goals in 19 games during his first spell at Blackpool last season. He said: "Last year when I was here we were fighting to stay in the league and now we are fighting to get in the play-offs – and that's no mean feat. "We play better football than most teams and we score goals so, hopefully, that will be enough to get us into the play-offs." Blackpool are two points behind sixth-placed Swansea going into Saturday's game against Peterborough and Campbell expects the battle for a play-off place to go to the final game. "It seems like when we get a good win, they win, so it's going to go to the wire and we know that."
flanimal Posted 21 April 2010 Posted 21 April 2010 I don't really see him as our player anymore When you hear DJ talk about Blackpool and Leicester, it becomes fairly clear that he doesn't like the club and he has no affinity to Leicester at all.
Mack Posted 21 April 2010 Posted 21 April 2010 fook DJ Campbell. Two bob lower league player scoring tap ins for a lower league club. I hope they do make the play offs, would be a nailed on final win after DJ scores from 2 feet to knock out the gumps.
