Alexikokopops Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 We are going to Adventure Island Going to Star City makes me feel like I'm in a Nintendo game. Until I get there, that is.
Jon the Hat Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 Regardless of party politics - do you not agree that having a range of successful experience outside politics should be a pre-requisite for working within it? Across government yes. In a particular minister not so essential.
FoxyPV Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 One of the questions to Dave will be 'do you really like Morrissey? I mean really, REALLY like Morrissey?' If he answers positively then that's a definite vote loser!
Guest Bilo Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 As AFIE has said, Clegg has the most to gain from this. There's little doubt that he is actually a very good debater when given the chance, and he is more than capable of wiping the floor with Gordon Brown. He may even be able to do the same to Cameron on an equal footing. Cameron is ostensibly the best debater of the three, and as has already been said, he regularly makes Brown look a fool in PMQs. In terms of the betting, Cameron is favourite to come out on top with Clegg second, and Gordon Brown a distant third. That's probably not far wrong, as the Tory voters will vote their man on top and there's more of them than the Lib Dem voters. The winner of the debates will get a huge advantage overall, and in terms of what the poll decide, Cameron is the most likely beneficiary. It could do Brown more harm than good. My problem with this debate however is the fact that it seems so stage managed. No applause allowed, however excellent a point or argument made. No booing allowed, however stupid a statement made. Not even any pressing from the interviewer, however evasive of a question the politician is. It's almost like Soviet television for crying out loud. A normal Question Time format would have been a much better test. Still, they're likely to have a large bearing. I'll watch, in spite of myself.
sdb Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 You obviously don't watch Prime Ministers Questions very often.. Cameron regularlay makes Brown look like a fool. No offence but I suspect you may be the type who doesn't actually listen to what politicians say. Cameron's pre planned quips and soundbites at PMQ's may sound good/passionate or whatever but they either lack substance or are completely hypocritical. He knows so little and the fact he's got this far in his career is really quite scary. As Obama said, 'what a lightweight!'.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 If he answers positively then that's a definite vote loser! It would probably lose Morrissey a few listeners too. Perhaps Morrissey should be PM. On second thoughts, he'd make us all vegetarian NO THANKS
Matt Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 In a 'Education, Education, Education' style. What am I expecting? Bullshit, Bullshit, Bullshit. All 3 promising us the world - When they get into power delievering nothing.
neiltheblue Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 drink a barrel if it kicks off between Cameron and Clegg,or Brown turns up legless and singing flower of scotland or the debate is replaced by Anne Widdecombe and Harriet Harman in an adult movie
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 15 April 2010 Author Posted 15 April 2010 Brown to Cameron "you can't airbrush your policies like you airbush your posters!" Great line!!!
Guest Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 Brown to Cameron "you can't airbrush your policies like you airbush your posters!" Great line!!! Not bad, but to me it undermines his arguments by taking cheap shots IMHO
James. Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 Cameron is having a shocker. If you can't make Brown look shit then seriously, what hope have you got. Brown is holding his own, unfortunately. Clegg, as expected, is coming off the best.
Guest Bilo Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 Agree that Brown's gags about campaign posters are cheap shots, not great for the standard of debate. Clegg is winning this easily so far.
Simi Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 On a serious note, Clegg is likely to come out best as the other two will invariably go straight for each other's throats at the first opportunity and carry on that way for the duration. Good call.

Regardless of the standard of debate it was a good line that people will remember. Cameron came out worse in that exchange, as he has in most exchanges.
Guest Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 The format and the constant interruptions of Alastair Stewart are really all over the shop, wish he wouldn't jump in when it starts to get somewhere

Cameron came out worse in that exchange, as he has in most exchanges. Cameron isn't having a great time I admit. Brown is about as interesting as watching paint dry, and Cameron isn't getting in enough of a kicking. Disagree that he's coming off worse in most exchanges though, think Brown and Clegg came off badly in the expenses row.
Matt Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 "Vocation's people care about." My god I think someone's got it, Not school, school, school, everyone does the same everyone must pass such and such a subject by a test, Freedom to learn what they want to learn, School isn't for some people, Give them something they actually want to do and you will get better results in different fields - Some kids love day to day school, Some kids just don't get on with school. In my experience I didn't get on with school but wasn't a bad lad - They bad kids got shipped out to college to do what they wanted to do because the school didn't want those kids, they were a liability to the school 'high standards' - what example is that to set? If you're bad you don't have to go to school?
AoWW Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 I want a contemplation suite and massage room in place of our staff room.

Bit lightweight. Clegg, in my eyes, is nailing this.
Sparky Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 Agree with James, Clegg ahead on points. Cameron and Browns little digs at each other are playing in to Cleggs hands
Guest Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 Cameron just sounds like a bit of a bitch to be honest. Little sarcastic digs. Bit lightweight. Clegg, in my eyes, is nailing this. Agree with the Clegg comment. Brown's equally guilty of the sarky little digs.
AoWW Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 It feels like Cameron's been tutored to death on 'good debating technique' - he utilises the tried and tested methods, but never really seems comfortable and it's all a little 'stage managed'. Clegg, on the other hand, seems to ooze confidence and looks like he's quite relaxed up there. Brown and Cameron's digs at each other are little more than petty.
