davieG Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 http://www.clarets-m...580/index.shtml Charlton's Lloyd Sam is in demand with Burnley now joining Leicester, QPR and Sheffield United in the chase for the winger The 25-year-old, Leeds born, Sam has been with Charlton Athletic since the start of his career as a youth player, but he made his league debut in January 2004 during a loan spell at Leyton Orient. His Charlton debut came in the following season when he played in a 2-2 draw against rivals Crystal Palace in the Premier League but he never fully established himself in the teamwhilst in the top flight. In 2006/07 season he had two loan spells. He played four games during a month's loan at the beginning of the season with Sheffield Wednesday and later in the season played in that horrible game at Southend that we lost 1-0, a game that left me believing we would be relegated. He's played regularly for Charlton in recent seasons and has now featured in over 130 games for them. He came close to a move to Newcastle in January but remained at the Valley. However, following their failure to win promotion it looks as though he will be on the move with Burnley now reported to have joined Leicester, QPR and Sheffield United in trying to sign him.
Criggers Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 The same thing is regurgitated on sky Sky Sports Is he left or right? Or both?
Fox You Forest Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 Only one game but in the game against Swindon the other night he looked a similar sort of player to Gradel.
Criggers Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 So he's about 5ft nothing, can dribble, take a not bad set piece and then he will get the arse and join Leeds in January?
lcfcsnow Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 I'd rather we be looking at Racon, looked a class act when he came on the other night. We linked with him last Summer weren't we?
Asha Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 Would Lloyd Sam be an improvement on either Dyer or N'Guessan? I doubt it.
blueblood88 Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 Hi, this is my first post, so take it easy on me I can't see Lloyd Sam being an improvement on what we already have, we need to be looking at proiven Championship wingers if we want to progress. I thought Jimmy Kebe and Jobi McAnuff at Reading looked good when we last played them, both fast and tricky, and Kebe has a decent goalscoring record in this league.

blueblood88 Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 both will go to WBA, Wolves, Wigan, West Ham, Bolton or a similar lower prem club if they were to leave Reading Thats a fair point, but don't you think they might want to play for a championship club that could well be challenging at the top, play regular football and maybe become a fans favourite here, or go to a premier legue club, albeit a lower prem club and spend most of the season on the bench?

Not when you take into account ££££££s
Flynny Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 I'd quite like us to look at players in the mould of 'Dyer but can control a ball' or 'Gallagher but with pace'. Be expensive and not too many around at this level but would be very worthwhile. Especially as Pearson will probably be looking at players who can slot into both 4-4-2 and 4-3-3, so can play as a winger and a forward. If you're going to be a winger who can also play up front you'd be less inclined to buy the classic Winger-Who-Has-One-Thing-They're-Absolutely-Terrible-At.
blueblood88 Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 Not when you take into account ££££££s That said, I don't think any of the lower prem teams have loads of ££££££££, west ham were under threat of going out of business not so long ago..
Guest Mee-9 Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 Wouldn't be much point buying him when we have better wingers.

They'll be paying significantly more in wages whether they've got the money or not, agents will have a minimum they'll accept for being in the Premier and you can bet, bar a few exceptions it'll be more than the top wage in the Championship.
KFS Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 Kept an eye on him during the Charlton game, didn't really rate him. Why sign a player that can't break a league 1 defence when we need quality that can break Prem defence?
Mikey Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 Kept an eye on him during the Charlton game, didn't really rate him. Why sign a player that can't break a league 1 defence when we need quality that can break Prem defence? Can't judge on one game.

As DavieG says its about the monies - If they leave reading they'll look at the deal that gives them the most money. Besides they'd probably walk into the wigan, wolves, West ham first team squads - I'd doubt they'd be sat on the bench most of the season.

Lloyd Sam would be an improvement on both Dyer and N'Guessan, he can take on players, has a very good delivery and can play either side with ease. Proven championship wingers? Lloyd Sam did well in the championship and even showed potential in the prem. He is definitely good enough.

KFS Posted 21 May 2010 Posted 21 May 2010 We dont need quality to break prem defences..Were not playing prem teams. I'm not saying that. I meant that we need quality that WOULD break a Prem team. He also can't break League 1 defences. He is not an improvement on Dyer or Nguessan. Would be a waste of money imo.

Well as he is right footed and a right winger opposed to both Dyer and Nguessan who are left wingers and left footed I would suggest that he plays in a totally different position
calum_lcfc Posted 21 May 2010 Posted 21 May 2010 So he's about 5ft nothing, can dribble, take a not bad set piece and then he will get the arse and join Leeds in January? Hero.

Jay Posted 21 May 2010 Posted 21 May 2010 N'Guessan... errrr is he not a right footed, right winger? Nope, he's position is left midfield, obviously he has more of a right foot than Dyer but then that isn't hard
Joe. Posted 21 May 2010 Posted 21 May 2010 Wouldn't mind seeing this happen so long as we didn't pay silly money. He's the type of player who can make things happen, not afraid to go and beat a man and put in a ball. It might not come off every time but I'd rather have somebody like that in my team than a cautious winger who is afraid to take on anyone or anything.
