ScouseFox Posted 2 June 2010 Posted 2 June 2010 BBC's version Looks to be going, has been offered a severance deal to "leave immediately".
MikeyT Posted 3 June 2010 Posted 3 June 2010 Sky Sports sources understand Rafa Benitez is to leave Liverpool in the next 48 hours as the two parties continue to negotiate a severance package. News broke of Benitez's likely departure on Wednesday night, with the Spaniard believed to be on the cusp of leaving Anfield after a hugely disappointing past campaign. Liverpool were expected to mount a serious title tilt after finishing second in the previous season but instead an early exit from the UEFA Champions League was followed by a failure to qualify for next term's premier club competition, after finishing seventh in the Premier League. Reports emanating from the Merseyside outfit have suggested Benitez has lost the support of senior figures within the dressing room, with key duo Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard linked with summer departures. Sky Sports has learnt that Benitez will likely confirm his exit within the next 48 hours, although his agent is refusing to comment on the speculation. Manuel Garcia Quilon said: "We don't know anything more than what's being said. We're not saying anything." Various figures have been mooted with regards how much it will take to pay-off the Spanish tactician, with the club now looking to thrash out terms that suit both parties.
Joe. Posted 3 June 2010 Posted 3 June 2010 About time too. Delighted he's gone, unlike most people I don't mind Liverpool at all. It was actually becoming painful to see how he was screwing them up so badly. Who next though? Hodgson? This will be interesting...

It was actually becoming painful to see how he was screwing them up so badly. Who next though? Hodgson? This will be interesting... Hodgson deserves a crack at managing a big English side. Rafa has been very poor domesticly.
ScouseFox Posted 3 June 2010 Posted 3 June 2010 All the Liverpool fans up here are pretty much split on this. Some saying that it's good news, that getting a better manager in will benefit the club. Others say that the owners need to go, and they've now got a chance to employ their own manager, which could see them staying longer. Names being mentioned are Guus Hiddink, which is pretty optimistic, and a lot want to see Roy Hodgson come in. Either way, the main worry is the likes of Torres, Mascherano and Gerrard leaving if a big name manager isn't appointed soon.
FoxyPV Posted 3 June 2010 Posted 3 June 2010 Bye bye Torres, Mascherano, and Gerrard. He deserved to go after the season that Liverpool had. I can't see there being much money being available for whomever comes in so they will have to sell to raise funds.
Tilley Posted 3 June 2010 Posted 3 June 2010 Kenny Dalglish with Ian Rush as his number two until new owners are found.
lou Posted 3 June 2010 Posted 3 June 2010 Wish I could get paid £3 million for failing at my job. (Not that Im failing at my job I hasten to add!)
ScouseFox Posted 3 June 2010 Posted 3 June 2010 Kenny Dalglish with Ian Rush as his number two until new owners are found. This has been mentioned, but some people are wary about 'messiahs' in football, looking at Newcastle.

Tilley Posted 3 June 2010 Posted 3 June 2010 This has been mentioned, but some people are wary about 'messiahs' in football, looking at Newcastle. Yeah, it's just been on talksport. Mike Parry thinks they should get Keegan! I'd like to see Mark Hughes get the job or Roy Hodgson.
ScouseFox Posted 3 June 2010 Posted 3 June 2010 Yeah, it's just been on talksport. Mike Parry thinks they should get Keegan! I'd like to see Mark Hughes get the job or Roy Hodgson. Either Hughes or Hodgson would be good if you ask me, but Hughes being Man United, some aren't too keen. Saying that, he was liked by Man City fans during his tenure there. It'll be interesting to see who they get, and whether people will turn it down due to what appears to be a massive lack of funds.
FoxyPV Posted 3 June 2010 Posted 3 June 2010 Wish I could get paid £3 million for failing at my job. (Not that Im failing at my job I hasten to add!) I would fail at my job if they offered me £3million to leave.
James. Posted 3 June 2010 Posted 3 June 2010 Wish I could get paid £3 million for failing at my job. (Not that Im failing at my job I hasten to add!) I wouldn't say he failed. Champions League Winners 04/05 FA Cup Winners 05/06 Champions League Finalists 06/07 League Runners Up 08/09 Plus a Super Cup and Community Shield. And he signed Torres.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 3 June 2010 Posted 3 June 2010 Can't compare Dalglish to Shearer. Shearer was useless as a manager.
Jonezy Posted 3 June 2010 Posted 3 June 2010 Dammit, we need to get Spearing on the cheap before he is out of the door.... Makes sense though Liverpool has become a two man team, which on most days are duller than dull and nowhere near a premiership title.
Sparky Posted 3 June 2010 Posted 3 June 2010 I wouldn't say he failed. So basically 2 major trophies in 6 and a bit years spending over 200 million quid, i cant doubt that his tactical nouse won Liverpool the champions league but his domestic record isn't the best. Of the squad he leaves only Gerrard, Torres, Reina and Mascarano look like top premiership players. If Hiddink comes in id expect him to get Liverpool a lot closer to the honours they demand.

Fair enough. Not saying he was a raging success and it probably is the best decision for a club desperate for a domestic league title but at the same time I don't think he failed. I'd imagine most Liverpool fans agree..?
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 3 June 2010 Posted 3 June 2010 Take away Istanbul and I think he'd be long gone by now. Been dining out on that (not denying it was a great effort) for the best part of five years. I blame Jerzy Dudek.

I'd imagine most Liverpool fans agree..? Yeah maybe, i think they are fairly mixed views from what i can gather, anybody who wins a Champions league will always be popular with the fans. I think the lack of Champions league football for a club of Liverpools size is disaster really. Other than Torres and Reina im not too sure he has spent ever so wisely with the huge budget he has had at his disposal.
dandannieldanok Posted 3 June 2010 Posted 3 June 2010 If that £3million is correct then Liverpool have massively got away with it. He's got 4 years left on his contract hasn't he?
