Collymore Posted 30 June 2010 Posted 30 June 2010 Link Chris Powell has been left to steady the ship at Leicester following the departure of manager Nigel Pearson to Championship rivals Hull City. With two of Pearson’s backroom staff Craig Shakespeare and Steve Walsh also making the switch to the KC Stadium, Powell is the only senior coach remaining at Leicester and he may be asked to oversee the early stages of pre-season training. The well-respected PFA chairman has been a dependable figure at the club during a period of uncertainty and he is likely to hold the fort while the City board decide on a successor to Pearson. Powell, himself, has made no secret of his desire to eventually have a crack at management and, while he has no managerial experience, the 40-year-old ticks plenty of boxes with more than 20 years experience in the game behind him. Powell has worked closely with Pearson over the last two years as a player-coach and he is a popular figure with both Foxes’ players and fans alike. The City squad are due to return to training next week and, whilst the board will be keen to make a swift appointment, Powell’s continued presence buys them a little more time to get the right man. Powell said: “Basically, I’ve been left here at the moment and the club needs a bit of stability after what has happened this week. “The players report back for training next Wednesday and I suppose I will oversee one or two things until a decision is made. “I don’t consider myself a temporary or caretaker manager it’s just a question of concentrating on what needs to be done because most of the plans for pre-season were made and put into place at the end of last season. “Nigel’s departure has surprised a lot of people and the club and the supporters now need some leadership to go forward and I will be liaising with the players during what is an important time.” Thus far, only full-back Tom Kennedy has been recruited this summer on a free transfer from Rochdale, while the club are reported to be in talks with a number of other free agents, including former Reading and Sheffield United midfielder James Harper. I love Chris Powell
Tilley Posted 30 June 2010 Posted 30 June 2010 Rather have Powell than half the jokers being linked with the job.
Pst Posted 30 June 2010 Posted 30 June 2010 Bloke is a complete legend. Hopefully he is no.2 for whoever comes in as manager, he knows the players, the club and hopefully he can be one thing that is positive out of all of this uncertainty.
lou Posted 30 June 2010 Posted 30 June 2010 Rather have Powell than half the jokers being linked with the job. Same here, worth giving him a go for a while I reckon? Only trouble is if it doesnt go well then the morons will start on him and Id end up killing someone!! <_<
Wycombe Fox Posted 30 June 2010 Posted 30 June 2010 Rather have Powell than half the jokers being linked with the job. Same here.
Ozwin Posted 30 June 2010 Posted 30 June 2010 Rather have Powell than half the jokers being linked with the job. This. I love me some Chrissy P.
Corky Posted 30 June 2010 Posted 30 June 2010 Completely the right bloke to take the fort in the meantime. Has a smile on his face, will lift spirits and also seems to have the respect of the players. Really hope he stays in some capacity.
flanimal Posted 30 June 2010 Posted 30 June 2010 I wouldn't be against Chris Powell as manager, but whether or not he has a scouting network would concern me a little bit. I guess it doesn't really make any difference since we won't be signing anyone anyway!
dandannieldanok Posted 30 June 2010 Posted 30 June 2010 Can't think of a better person to have around in a situation like this, calm and measured, and I'm sure he has the respect of all the squad.
MPH Posted 30 June 2010 Posted 30 June 2010 The only thing that would make me not want chris as manager would be the job itself. It could be a thankless task. No money to spend. only bosmans coming in, mm accepting offers for our better players behind his back and suddenly his managerial reputation is ruined by a very lowly finish before its even started.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 30 June 2010 Posted 30 June 2010 Powell is a legend. Rather him than Dowie, Coleman, Rodgers, etc.
Salieri Posted 30 June 2010 Posted 30 June 2010 I'd love to see Chrissy P given a chance at the job but it's unlikely to happen. Regardless, when the new man is appointed, Powell had better not be forced out of the club. <_<
CKB Posted 30 June 2010 Posted 30 June 2010 Unlikely he would be even considered but i hope he gets some role at the club as he's great to have around
1964FOX Posted 30 June 2010 Posted 30 June 2010 At last the club has got something right, best news I've heard in days NP is dead Long live King Chrisy P If he lasts a fortnight before the new manager will he count as one of MM's longer term appointments?
Fosse Boy Posted 30 June 2010 Posted 30 June 2010 Would love to see him get the job with an experienced assistant. Not sure who that would be though... I think Chrissy is the most pious of all candidates mentioned as well so I'm sure NSLL would be on board with this suggestion.
Sylvie85 Posted 30 June 2010 Posted 30 June 2010 Unlikely he would be even considered but i hope he gets some role at the club as he's great to have around I wouldn't be so sure that he wouldn't be considered, he knows the players, he knows the club and most important for MM he will be cheap. Wouldn't surprise me, much rather him than alot on the list.

Wouldn't surprise me, much rather him than alot on the list. Would Chrissy even want it? maybe he feels he needs to learn more yet? plus i just dunno if MM would even consider that idea, yes it would be the cheap option so there is that reason but i just don't think MM would go down that route and would rather...HOPEFULLY look at people like Sousa, Mowbray, etc
poopbutt Posted 1 July 2010 Posted 1 July 2010 If chris doesn't get number two, i want him in the England set up (if they get rid of capello) CP is the man.
Dom_Harborough Fox Posted 1 July 2010 Posted 1 July 2010 Whatever happens, really hope he stays! No-one seems to have a bad word to say about the bloke.
JmorsonLCFC Posted 4 July 2010 Posted 4 July 2010 Not sure about him being the manager, but I'd love to see the man take over as assistant. Total legend and seems to bond with the players really well. But who knows?
