Will never forget the time when a few of us went to watch training during the school holidays aged about 15 and they had a day off, Birch saw us gave us a full training ground tour and took us to meet and have a chat with Craig Levein, I was made up. Pretty special guy and all a bit sad that he's off.

Yes, but without that gigantic fat headed moron running around shouting unfunny jokes and other incessant ramblings in peoples faces, while wobbling around pretending like he owns place just because he spends every day of his life in a fox leisure tracksuit.

I find his half time ‘entertainment’ offensive. Listening to him his like an assault on my ear drums.

Bye Birch.

Love MF

This made me piss, I've just got my final warning at work because of it.. :appl:

I am glad the "Birch Era" is over.

He was good in past times, but it is all old hat now.

Just get rid of the bloke announces the line-ups and we're sorted!!!

Good times.

The worst thing about him leaving would be not getting to hear him mispronounce any name that isn't 'King'.

People seem to be getting far too worked up about this. Yeah, he's been a 'great servant', if great servant means being paid to do seemingly not a lot, but it's hardly going to affect our season.

This being such a massive thing is just covering more important things, like the fact that 3 days before the season we STILL have Robbie Neilson as our only right back.

His weakness in this area used to make the quizzes at his pub particularly challenging. You'd have to work out what the question was before you could try to answer it

Both Birch and Mandy both love football and love the apparent adulation that being associated with a large fairly successful club, both enjoy the self publicity/ promotion and its basically a hobby for them both, bit of a play thing.

Difference is Mandy is 23m in the red, bit of an expensive hobby and gamble and Birch actually gets paid for a part time hobby.

Hes done very well on the back of the clubs name, enjoyed the limelight and also done a lot of good

People do retire at 65, he'll still see his football and do after dinner stuff.

Plenty of ex players, share the role amongst them

Let's get things straight for a minute , the birch has been a part of our club for 40 years and deserves to be shown more respect by the club and by certain people on here than what he is being

Yes he has been paid, and paid well but he's been there through the good times, the bad times and the even worse ! ...plus don't forget he loves the club as much as you and I !

Yes the time will come for him to hang his boots and Mic up, but he should be given a say in that not just shown the door and in my personal opinion it would of been nice to finish with a testimonial, all star match to thank him for his work.

All I'm really saying is as well as trying to improve things like with The Fosse boys , Jobber etc you need to keep the things that are part of the history and fabric of the club too .

Rant over ..

Here's to a successful season and a bright future.,

First and foremost I would like to place on record my thanks for all of the work that Alan has done for the club over the past 40 years. Unfortunately however, I agree with the club that the time is right to let "The Birch" go for the following reasons:

1. Until this thread I'm sure that a lot of us (myself included) had no idea how much he was being paid. My understanding is that he does more for the club than just the matchday stuff (i.e. helping new signings and the younger players settle at the club) but in my opinion this doesn't even justify a 5-figure salary let alone £30,000 per year.

2. Many of you do not realise the full implications of the retirement age being lifted. Two members of my family run their own businesses both of which employ workers in their sixties. The current retirement laws allow you to release employees with thanks and grace at the age of 65 - if you want them to continue working then you can always offer them that option. The new rules mean that if someone wants to cnotinue working past their 65th birthday then you could eventually end up having to dismiss them on competency grounds - hardly bowing out gracefully! Just imagine "The Birch" still doing this job when he is 90!

3. Alan has been offered a role at the club for matchdays which I personally hope that he will eventually accept. This would still see him undertaking the role that 99% of fans know him for - just with nowhere near as much money!

Again, let me be clear that I am very grateful for all of the work that Alan has done over the past 40 years. In recent times he has been awarded an MBE and the Freedom of the City - they don't just give these things away you know! What I would like to see now is a fitting tribute for Alan. I would suggest a testimonial game with all of the legends who he has helped over the years playing some part and all proceeds going to a charity of Alan's choosing. Maybe the calibre of players that would turn up to support such an event would really indicate the value of the role that he has performed during the past 40 years.

Say what you will about Birchenall's half-time antics, but I echo several of the posts above--the Birch deserves a lot of credit.

I met Birchenall once, and thought he was a great guy. I'm guessing he probably had a drink or eight beforehand and was a lot funnier than he might be at 3:50 pm on a Saturday with a mic in his hand. He seems like he behaves in a, shall-we-say, especially friendly manner towards the younger, female employees at LCFC. A true gentleman that harks back to a day when men were men and they wore stupid giant collars, styled their hair like females and probably listened to shit like Rod Stewart. And I love how, in the "One Leicester" campaign, Birch makes it a point to mention that nowadays, instead of going far away, you can get smashed, dance like a fool and behave shamelessly in front of the ladies right in the Leicester city centre itself!

But I digress.

I guess the club is moving forward, so to speak, and the Birch is only getting older. But he's part of the club's image, and that's that. Milan, Hoos, and the new ownership group look like they're forcing him out but I really hope they have the sense to handle this in a much more professional and respectful manner--or at least change the way they're currently going about this for the better. Birchenall's probably done more good for the club in any of his days' work than Lee Hoos has done in all of his days in Leicester combined.

Im delighted he is going! Useless waste of space who talks utter rubbish and seriously bores me. Its ironic that they call it half time entertainment with the birch as I have not found anything he does as entertaining. He comes out before games in order to motivate the fans and rarely gets any applause, just an outburst from Bernie! Im sick to the teeth of his speeches, they are uninspiring and pointless. Great that he raises money for charity, his efforts are unquestionable but other than that he is annoying and I can't wait to see the back of him. Who is he to tell us season ticket holders to get behind the lads, why the hell are we there week in week out and spending all our hard earned money.

I'm willing to do his job for free, but on the condition the club provides me a Foxes Leisure tracksuit!!

Nothing against Birch, he has been a servant to the club for a while but 30k is 30k, so bye bye!!

We don't owe Alan Birchnel a living just because he is a nice bloke does a bit for charity.

He's a totally unneeded expense.

lol you miserable old goat

I would do it too but I would be looking for more equity than the two offers on the table so unfortunately on this occasion I'm out.

I'd like link up with you to make it a multi-faceted offer and do it for one trainer (left foot) and half a bottle of the fragrance if your willing to share.

Why though. What's he do besides piss me off at half time when I can be arsed to go and act as the clubs Propaganda tool on the radio moan in. Nothing beneficial at all.

Wouldn't mind but their are people losing jobs left right and centre in this county who aren't at retirement age, have kids and mortgages and did jobs a damn site more important than stumble over footballers names every other Saturday afternoon. Where is their campaign?

I'm practically a communist, I have to share even if I don't want to. And I can't see how the club could refuse an offer with so many facets.

Shall we let Singh in on it? He's a bit of a loose cannon

I'm more then happy being the 'token' brown face of this multi facet entertainment squad, the only rule I have is that I get first dips on the any beer dregs and left over food from the kiosks!!

My uncle John started working for Leicester City Bus, and worked for them (under it's many guises) from 1961 until they got rid of him in 1999.

Supprisingly no-one gave him a say on if he wanted to leave, started a petition, or gave a shit about it!

It will happen to all of us eventually....you get old, then yer useless.

He's been a great servant to the club, but servants are replaceable.
