Guest Mee-9 Posted 10 August 2010 Posted 10 August 2010 well then we are well n truly fookeed then, unless barry hayles returns the walkers an we still cud get kermit back after the season ends HAHA Thats a great idea mate. We could have Hayles spearhead the attack with De Vries! And I mean, Dorus De Vries.
cityfan94 Posted 10 August 2010 Posted 10 August 2010 We could have Hayles spearhead the attack with De Vries! And I mean, Dorus De Vries. we could get momo sylla back into the team for some quality attacking play and then sign Alan Rodgers and ryan mcgivern back and then thats the defence definatley fixed
Callabinho Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 Make sure we score one more than the opposition! cus thats the way it's looking!
Richard Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 Patience, this zonal marking takes time and will only come with game time
dpjfox Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 hobbs/ Vitor in centre of defence Moreno as sittiing/holding/defensive anchor midfield, understanding the new "zonal marking system", i do agree though Brown has been missed, he wasnt great with the ball at his feet but he was left footed and he could shout/moan instructions
OriginalRobboFOX Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 Patience is the key. The back four need to become used to playing with each other again. Admittedly Berner, Hobbs, and Morro all played together last year but Morro was predominantly a right back and Berner missed some games. Now it would seem they have got to factor in Neilson as he seems the preferred right back. Then, when Vitor is fit and Kennedy is ready for this level you have to factor these boys in too. I can't see any quick fix and it would seem that game time is what the 'first choice' back four needs at the moment. PS. Zonal marking - I'm not a fan. It was one of Rafa's greatest downfalls... his insistence in opting for zonal instead of man marking cost pool dearly last year...
Chrysalis Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 I dont like zonal marking, I think that is a prime reason, also we have lost 3 defenders from last year and playing neillson, the fact neillson is even on the pitch may be making the others less confident. but yes training is the key to defense, you can teach defending and it seems pearson was very good at it.

Neilson was mostly shocking last season, but against Palace on Saturday and last night against Macclesfield he was very good Put in a beautiful cross for King's header on Saturday and scored last night IF and only IF he carrys on this form, I'd be happy to see him stay in the right back position Not sure why Lamey wasn't used last night
Corky Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 PS. Zonal marking - I'm not a fan. When the opposition win a corner, designate which player should mark who and follow them wherever they go.
TrickyTrev Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 People calling for man marking is hilarious. I actually can't remember the last time I saw a professional football side employ man marking as a defensive philosophy (other than at set pieces), its a Sunday League tactic. Our players will have never played anything other than Zonal since the day they were picked up by an academy.

unreachable Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 Anyone else tried to interpret Paulo Sousa's post match interview with Ian Stringer on Radio Leicester? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/8905126.stm To Stringer's question about "zonal marking" PS says we didn't play zonal in the last 2 matches but then says the players have to handle both "zonal" and "man to man" and know when to change their approach. It is difficult to follow the interview but no doubt some bright spark on here will be able to do so.

Sousa's answer makes perfect sense. Have a think about what he has said, apply it to a period of any game and if you still don't get it I can explain later. Go on work it out.

You're so clever. I'm not sure whether footballers are so clever.
OriginalRobboFOX Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 He's clearly watched more than you have Clearly.... Im 47, My girlfriend's 33, she's 14 years younger than me, back of the net!
Trav Le Bleu Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 Simply we need an old head at the back - apart from goalkeepers, defenders usually have the longest careers of footballers because it is less the physical skill that matters and more the mental side of the game, which can only be acquired through experience. Hobbs and Morrison are both great players with huge potential, but they need someone alongside to guide them and rub off their experience. We were right to get rid of Brown, but we could do with someone of his experience at the club.
unreachable Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 Funny how PS says we didn't zonal mark in the last 2 games whereas several posters on here say we did.
hackneyfox Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 Zonal being discussed on Bentleys and also simply described by Fleckney & Tartan. http://www.fansonline.net/leicestercity/mb/view.php?id=226864

TrickyTrev Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 Not watched much football then.... Plenty. No teams play man marking. Set pieces aside it is completely extinct as a defensive system. Why people seem to think we played it last year I do not know.

marbelladave Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 A very brave statement.... But rarely, if ever wrong... Benitez tried to get 'pool to defend zonally at set pieces, particularly corners, they were complete bobbins at it. Our central defence is currently completely bobbins also, so it must be zonal marking, geddit!...
