BoneDog Posted 8 November 2010 Posted 8 November 2010 I never saw Alan Young play but he certainly sounds like the kind of guy I would want in my starting XI. No nonsense, straight talking man and it is a pleasure listening when he's on. I loved Matt Piper aswell, thought he was a good sidekick for the commentator when he was on. The other day the Mrs said "who was that guy who needed winding up to start talking"? I knew who she meant straight away cos he did start his sentences slowly before he'd get cracking!
Guy Posted 8 November 2010 Posted 8 November 2010 One Alan Young!! Loved his interview/article in the summer's pre season "special edition" of the Fox. One of many Foxes legends who's still affiliated to the club in some way now - although sadly I haven't heard him commentate on radio yet, being as I am exiled in Devon these days and am a bit of a luddite when it comes to tuning into Radio Leicester from afar!
Trav Le Bleu Posted 13 November 2010 Posted 13 November 2010 He's loving it isn't he and I'm falling in love with him again just like when he was my hero when I was a kid! He shouted out something like a woohooohooo on commentary - forget exactly what he said, would have liked to sample it for my radio show, but a real cry of pleasure! Not only that but he genuinely remembers and recognises previous callers to RL, which is more than the professional presenters often do. Could be the new Birch?
Tilley Posted 13 November 2010 Posted 13 November 2010 He's fantastic. So passionate but not in a cringeworthy way.
Finnegan Posted 13 November 2010 Posted 13 November 2010 Love Young but Stringer is a tool. I don't care if he loves the club, he's payed - by our licence fees - to be a pro journalist and reporter. Clown.
Earlydoorsjones Posted 13 November 2010 Posted 13 November 2010 Alan Young is the future! Great interview in the Fox, a true City old boy, he loves the Club and he really does know the way football works. If only all of the BBC "legends" who commentate were chosen on their ability and not just for little "jobs for the boys". He was educated in the game at a time when teams progressed more as a result of hard work and developing ability than the short term and transient sugar daddy approach to winning (e.g. Blackburn, Man City and...Chelsea - I can't wait for the day that the Russian gets board of rent boys). Listening to Young on the radio, it is clear that he knows his onions, and it is clear that he does not suffer fools gladly. Perfectly illustrated by his commentary of one of the silliest clowns of all: Lilly "chase me" Savage. Savage thrives on the attention of the media, and the media needs the Savages of this world. When City scored their first goal (come on Andy King!), Savage started warming up. Ian Stringer started commentating on it? Why? Don't give that over inflated ego air time. He is a C**t. The media does bend over backward to get their sound bites, which it so desperately needs, and this really fooking galls me because you can't buy a paper without having to pass over this tripe. Savage even "tweeted" during the Monday night BBC Leicester fans phone in. He could not fooking help himself, just could not help himself, from adding, "I have got more chance of signing for Real than Beckham signing for Leicester". Why for fooks sake? If he has moved on from City, why does he add these comments on social networking sites, and why do our commentators even bother with him? Many pundits will just ass lick these idiots, but not the Alan Young’s of this world. Oh no, not Alan Young! Because he is a City match day commentator and not in the position where he needs to pander to these bastards, he can call it like it is. And he does. Does anyone have the commentary of BBC radio Leicester recorded today? It was beautiful, almost poetry: "Today was not about Robbie Savage; today was about Leicester verses Derby." Alan Young, Saturday the 13th of November, 2010
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 14 November 2010 Posted 14 November 2010 He's fantastic. So passionate but not in a cringeworthy way. HE SHUDDA BURIED THAT THE RETAR'! I'll never forget how involved he was with the story of Dom from Glenfield and his crying eight year old son.
