Best iPhone 4 contract deals?

Recommended Posts

I fancy treating myself to one in a few weeks when I get paid, they look immense and I just love my gadgety stuff. I don't really know what I'm looking for when it comes to contracts though, I don't need much talk time as I text mostly so there's something but I don't want to be spending £30 a month just so I get unlimited texts as I don't text loads as it is. You don't pay for internet usage these days on phones do you? So I don't know what I'm paying for really.

Youll struggle to get 1 for less than £40 a month from what I've seen. Mines £45 a month. And internet use will be capped from October I think it is, so you could end up paying extra if you go over your data allowance.

I thought Internet use was via your router or wifi hotspot or whatever? They can't charge you for something you pay for already surely?

Tesco Mobile have one for £20 a month iirc.

It is when your within range of wifi, like at home, but then you may aswell be on a computer or laptop. IT comes off your data plan when your on the move. And I was just referring to contracts where you dont pay for the phone, I'd imagine at £20 a month you;d pay for the phone, but I could be wrong

Oh yeah you pay for the phone which I don't mind too much, if I get it on PAYG I'll never top it up because I'm a tight bastard and let people ring me if they want to contact me

My laptop cost me £350, it'll be weird spending more on a phone but it really does look like a fantastic piece of kit which'll be around for a few years right? I mean you can't get much more advanced in terms of a phone.

Give me some pros and cons of the iPhone 4 please, I've convinced myself into buying one without knowing the negatives, apart from the fact it's gonna cost me loads.

Anyone got one on PAYG?

I'm looking and wanted an iPhone for ages but couldn't really justify the price (As like Ozwin I don't really call people and mostly text) and also I feared scratching it/breaking it with the work I do but don't see that as to much of a problem now.

I was looking at Orange (£30 for 24 month and £119 for the phone) but then looked at there PAYG deals and for £10 you get 300 texts a month, 250mb UK mobile internet browsing each month and unlimited Wi-Fi for 12 month which looks pretty good for me (£480 for 16gb iPhone), I presume that would mean you have to top up £10 every month to get the 300 texts a month/internet browsing?

Is 250mb of mobile internet browsing alot/enough as opposed to 500mb on a contract (Obviously half of whats on a contract but is 250mb a sufficient amount).

Also unlimited Wi-Fi for 12 months, What does that mean? Surely Wi-Fi is unlimited anyway and the iPhone has Wi-Fi anyway so they can't turn it off after the 12 months can they?

(Presumably after the 12 months - When your 250mb mobile internet browsing ends you just buy a new sim/buy the offer again? :dunno:)

Thanks for any help in advance, I love my gadgets, love my computers, e.t.c, but when it comes to the ins and out of things, memory, mb's, stuff like that I ain't got a clue.

i'm not entirely sure but i think it means after a year a limit is set on the use of the wi-fi and you'll have to pay for what ever extra you use.

I think 'unlimited Wi-Fi' is just something they put in the deal to make it sound like you're getting more than you actually are. I mean how can they charge you for something you pay for already? That's not right, you don't get charged for using your PSP on Wi Fi or your Wii on Wi Fi or anything like that so yeah I think it's just technical sounding lingo to make it sound more attractive to the uneducated. I may be completely off the mark though, I doubt it's legal for them to charge you for Internet usage if you already pay for it on Virgin/Sky etc.

The only internet usage you'd pay for is out of range use, like if you were in Derby or something obviously you couldn't connect to your router at home so you'd have to use the in phone internet, and on most contracts you have a limit on that, (1GB data usage is the most common amount) - so if you go ABOVE 1GB in a month you'd pay for everything after, which is quite pricey I think, I know it is fairly high on Orange. I think it's quite hard to go above 1GB a month doing normal stuff though.

Anyway, I was looking at PAYG offers and the way I see it I think a contract is the better option. Firstly you're paying up front £150/200 for the handset which is almost £300 cheaper than it would be on PAYG. Secondly you have the easy option of paying £25/30/35 a month and you get loads more benefits, yeah it may be for 18/24 months but it's more conveniant, you don't have to have £500 in one lump sum and the way I look at it, £30 a month is one days work for me so that leaves me with a whole months worth of pay to myself afterwards, whereas £500 is like nearly all of a month's pay. I suppose you could say £500 in a lump sum means you have no commitment afterwards though but it depends how you look at it.

As you can tell, I've been really working out the pros and cons of getting one lol, I can't wait until payday - I'm dying to get my hands on one!

Vodafone, any good?

I've been with Orange for about 8 years now, but seen £30 for 24 months, 300 minutes, unlimited texts, 1gb internet.

My mums with Vodafone pay as you go, never had any problems.

I Googled Vodafone last night actually and there were loads of negative reviews on those 'ciao' sort of sites.

I reckon I'm gonna go with Orange or O2, Orange mainly so I can benefit from Orange Wednesdays...

I'm with Orange and got my iPhone on a special deal by extending my contract to another 2 years.

Saved about £100 off the original sales price for current Orange members (which was originally around £180 for the 32GB model).

I also have to pay £7 less each month, coming down from the basic £30 deal down to roughly £23 a month.

Several hundreds of minutes included (god knows how many precisely, never going to use them all up, anyway) and 1GB of data transfer.

Plus cheap calls at a local rate to folks in most of Europe, as well as the US, Canada and Japan.

I haven't had any issues with Orange so far, therefore didn't see any need to change provider.

True but you google and look for review on any phone, network provider, company, product and a good majority of reviews will be bad ones because if someone does have a problem with a product or service the first thing they are going to do (Or I do anyway...) is give a bad review and give the product or service a bad name, if something is good you are far less going to go out and be bothered to review the product or service on such a website, If it was a forum or something then fair enough i'd tell people how good something was, but on a review website I (personally) wouldn't be bothered to say it was good.

I also did a search for review on Vodafone and read alot of negative review but I then searched for Orange reviews (Who i've been with for 8 years or so) and there were many negative reviews and people saying do not touch Orange with a bargepole then listing the problems they had.

Same with iPhone reviews on certain websites, I've read many reviews saying it's rubbish, screen freezes, e.t.c, on a whole most people love them, but there are quite a few bad reviews.

I'd love to stay with Orange because it'd be less hassle to change, I know what i'm getting with Orange and had no problems but I do feel the Vodafone deal is better - But is it better because they are shite and give you what seems a better deal because they need the custom? :dunno:lol

I dont really get why people pay out of the arse for Iphones. You get far more for your money with an Android phone like the Galaxy S, and can do a lot more with it. Apple keep the Iphone way too closed.

Can't comment on the i-phone - just wanted to say that I've been with Vodafone for years (and now it's the only provider where I can get a reception inside my house) and I've never had any issues with them. Have been through various upgrades, changes of contract, etc and it's all been pretty plain sailing. I know many others have had different experiences though, maybe I've just been lucky. :dunno:

Perhaps i've been looking at the wrong deals but when I have looked at the other options, androids et al they don't really seem a whole lot cheaper than the iPhone (They are cheaper but not hugely so) and when looking at other phones for some reason not fully sure why but I keep ending up coming back to the iPhone.

Yeah, tbh I think people only have problems with network providers when they come to change networks or have to deal with customer services, like Orange today i've not had any problems with them at all during my time on there network but today when I want to get my PAC Code, I was on hold for 40 minutes, then they wouldn't just simply give me the code (As I understand most other companies do) they have to post it to me. Like everything really a service and product runs fine until you have to deal with them to cancel or talk to their customer services (Most of which company have non-existing customer service).

Got an upgrade coming up soon i've never had an iphone before so don't really know what to expect. Whats the best deals for an iphone 4? I've looked at some but you have to put £300 towards to phone and i dont fancy putting that much towards it tbh. Anyone got one and reccomend it? Or is it worth looking into the 3GS?

Edit: I've looked on the web and they release a new iphone between june and july so maybe the prices of the iphone 4 will come down when its realsed?

I just saw an advert at a bus stop with Orange doing an iPhone for £25 a month.

I can't be sure if it was the 4 or not though, I'd assume so.
