fleckneymike Posted 29 August 2010 Posted 29 August 2010 a) Hull made an approach for Pearson. Rather than telling them to do one we happily accepted their approach and without any ceremony allowed NP to leave. Why? If i was being ultra cynical i would suggest that Adam Pearson was 'made aware' that should he approach NP then his club would be allowed to talk to Nigel. NP seemed as surprised as anyone that he was allowed to talk to Hull. I can't blame him for leaving when the club did nothing to persuade him to stay in the first place. b)I can only judge that on assessment of Pearsons time here. Promotion from League One followed by an excellent first season back in the Championship. How much unrest was there whilst he was in charge? Very little. Good squad harmony and in the main good work in the transfer market. c) I don't think he's particularly high profile either, but for whatever reasons Pearson wasn't fancied by the new owners and it's now backfiring on them bigtime. Squad harmony was ok until Wayne Brown exercised his democratic right, voted and then told the squad how he'd voted. I imagine the fall out from that might have created some disharmony.
Legend_in_blue Posted 29 August 2010 Posted 29 August 2010 These players who have put in requests... Hopefully it's three from Oakley, DNG and DJ.

Agreed it created some disharmony but in consequence WB was shipped out, and i don't think many of the players were sad to see him leave. Pearson may have been a bit dour and all that but he had a strong control over the dressing room. There's no arguing that the vast majority of players were happy under Pearson, Max Gradel and DJ Campbell being the obvious exceptions.

I agree they always seemed to want to play for him and that spirit was a key reason why we seldom got tonked but I'd still caution against underplaying the Brown incident. It only takes 2 or 3 players to stick up for him and you've got disharmony, selling him changes nothing.

But there was never a mass player revolt over the selling of WB, in fact, there was no rumblings of discontent whatsoever. This tells you that it was a popular decision and a good call to offload him.

This tells you that it was a popular decision and a good call to offload him. It was definitely a good call (his beliefs have no place at the club) but you miss my point, this has had a whole summer to fester and at the time the fact he felt comfortable enough to voice his political persuasion means he was either very stupid or confident that he wasn't alone in thinking that way.

bluefox9er Posted 29 August 2010 Posted 29 August 2010 Losing Fryatt is no big deal, he's a division 3 player at best ( on a good day) but losing Hobbs or Anndy King would be a devestating blow to our club.

Narborough_fox Posted 29 August 2010 Posted 29 August 2010 Fryatt's the best striker we have, when Campbell leaves.
Narborough_fox Posted 29 August 2010 Posted 29 August 2010 Fuck Campbell. I agree, BUT he is a better player. Prefer Fryatt.
Salieri Posted 29 August 2010 Posted 29 August 2010 I agree, BUT he is a better player. Prefer Fryatt. I'd say the only thing DJ has over Fryatt is pace.
Narborough_fox Posted 29 August 2010 Posted 29 August 2010 I'd say the only thing DJ has over Fryatt is pace. Meh, different people have different opinions. Fryatt is more of a instinct striker, right places, right time. Meanwhile DJ can create stuff out of nothing from what I saw last season (when I saw him on tele) and in the Sunderland friendly.
bluefox9er Posted 29 August 2010 Posted 29 August 2010 Fryatt's the best striker we have, He might be our best striker, butthat dosn't mean he's a good player. we have money to spend, and this is the big problem I guess. I don't think Sousa is a bad manager per say, but I think it's clear that he's not the right manager for us. Sousa could theoretically blow a huge wedge of cash on rubbish and then gets fired and we are lumbered with baggage ( Junior Lewis, Trevor Benjamin, Ade Akimbaye, anyone?) The reasons for Pearson's departure and no effort on the club's part to stop him need to be clarified. I don't think there would have been a mass player transfer request if Pearson was still in charge ( and I don't think we would be in such turmoil off the field if he was still here).
SeattleShane Posted 29 August 2010 Author Posted 29 August 2010 I was wary about putting this on here because there is always rumours flying around from supposed "people in the know" but I had a message from someone who works in the Leicester media that is pretty sure ( not 100 percent though) that Fryatt is happy at Leicester.

I too have heard that Hull were encouraged to approach us for Nigel Pearson from a few sources (although I should post a disclaimer and say this is all alledged). So when Milan and Lee Hoos expressed surprise to the media and stated they were going to do all they could to keep Nigel, they were being less than genuine. It's no wonder that Nigel feels he was stitched up as he was edged out the door. In that environment, it's no wonder some of the players are disillusioned when a person they respect is treated in an underhand manner.
Madrid_Fox Posted 30 August 2010 Posted 30 August 2010 I can't wait for Wednesday and for all this crap to be over with. I just want to know who is going and who is staying put.

That is the impression I get too. I really can't see Matty leaving I mean why would he? With DJ going he has the opportunity to lead the line as the number one striker of one of the Championship's biggest clubs. He knows he is popular with the fans despite not being consistently prolific and what better offer is he likely to get? Go warm the bench at Wigan or some similarly hopeless premier league club or move sideways to a rival championship team and risk not being appreciated like he is here. I'll eat my hat if Fryatt isn't still with us come Wednesday. I'm really more concerned that we get in a replacement for N'Guessan. I too am pretty tired of all the speculation and I'm looking forward to the close of the window so we can take stock of what we have got and finally determine our best team and a workable system.
andy_croydz Posted 30 August 2010 Posted 30 August 2010 c) I don't think Sousa is particularly high profile - not like a string of Premiership clubs were after him. To be honest... I think it was more of 'who Sousa knows and what he acheived in his playing career' than 'How good is his managerial record' I do wish we still had Pearson because the team were gelled under his management and we got decent results under him. That said though... I will give Sousa a chance, he deserves at least 15 league games before we review his position.
HankMarvin Posted 30 August 2010 Posted 30 August 2010 Some players want to leave Leicester City – Paulo Sousa DJ Campbell should complete his move to Blackpool today, and Leicester City manager Paulo Sousa has revealed the striker is not the only player who wants to leave the Walkers Stadium. Sousa said after Saturday's 2-1 home defeat to Reading, which condemned City to their worst start to a league season for 16 years, that some of his first-team squad have asked to leave. The City boss refused to reveal the identity of the unsettled players, although one is Campbell, who was not named in the squad to face the Royals. Sousa said he wanted only players who were fully committed to him and City. "Yes, we have some of them (who have asked to go) but not too many," said Sousa. "It means we have some good players and other clubs are interested in them. Depending on offers and the minds of the players, we will make decisions but we will keep it in-house. "Players get unsettled when their agents start to tell them about other possibilities. "Also, when there is a new manager, and they have been first choice for another manager with a different kind of football, everyone starts in a little bit of doubt. "From the start, I said every player is important but not indispensable. "The market is always open and then we need to make our decisions." Sousa said Blackpool had returned with a new bid for Campbell and that he had made his decision about the future of the unsettled striker. "Blackpool have made an approach and we will see," he said. "I have made my decision. The club knows my decision but I am not going to reveal that decision publicly. "From the beginning, I have said DJ is an important player and he is full of energy. "He started the season in good form, scoring goals and very happy." Sousa said Japanese international Yuki Abe should receive international clearance to join City tomorrow. He would then link up with his new team-mates after the internationals. Sousa said he was also close to completing at least two other deals for new signings. "I am close with some deals," he said. "We keep working very hard and hopefully by today we will settle on some extra players. "We have two or three positions we are looking for in different sectors, with different characteristics. Hopefully we can achieve them." Dutch defender Randel Shakison has been released after failing to impress during his recent trial

The bits in bold clearly show he think it means transfer bid, not request. Obviously the Merc put the bit in brackets on that sentence, he never said that.
Wycombe Fox Posted 30 August 2010 Posted 30 August 2010 The players know something isn't right, sad to say but I think Mr Sousa may be living on borrowed time. Or the club end up shipping them out and replacing them with dross while backing Sousa. This. In what you've said there, you could almost replace the word Sousa with Taylor. Aaaah it takes me back.
