Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 20 September 2010 Posted 20 September 2010 I think Southgate's quite a good pundit, and I'm not being sarcastic.
FoxyPV Posted 21 September 2010 Posted 21 September 2010 Shearer did make a decent point about Liverpool's style of play on Sunday's MOTD and how it was effecting Torres' performance. He said that they were continually passing it square or just lumping the ball up to him - giving him little or no chance but when the likes of Cole etc turned and faced United then Torres actually posed problems for the defence. He cited the penalty as one of the few instances where this happened. I was quite shocked at this piece of insight coming from Shearer - maybe Dixon said it to him beforehand so he could repeat it and not look like the complete plank that he normally is.
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 21 September 2010 Posted 21 September 2010 Dixon, Keown and Hansen (Walcott bashing aside) are usually pretty insightful and Sav and Warnock are always good value when they're on. Shearer manages to be both thick as pig shit and boring at the same time though.
dandannieldanok Posted 21 September 2010 Posted 21 September 2010 I think Southgate's quite a good pundit, and I'm not being sarcastic. Agreed, whenever he's on you get the feeling he's actually thought about what he's going to say before opening his mouth unlike 90% of other football pundits. ITV football's biggest asset by a long way.

Super_horns Posted 21 September 2010 Posted 21 September 2010 Stan Collymore has been having a little pop at MOTD generally...he has some good points BUT personally don't rate him much on Talksport. Just as bias and bland as some of those on MOTD.

Super_horns Posted 21 September 2010 Posted 21 September 2010 I wouldn't say Stan is bland- I find him pretty entertaining. Fair enough..he does get people debating on Talksport but to me is just another Premiership/Europe only type of presenter.
Corky Posted 21 September 2010 Posted 21 September 2010 Fair enough..he does get people debating on Talksport but to me is just another Premiership/Europe only type of presenter. Yeah I see that. At least he seems to do research on his topics so he backs up his opinions. In terms of the Football League I think Mark Clemmit does a decent job.
FoxyPV Posted 21 September 2010 Posted 21 September 2010 In terms of the Football League I think Mark Clemmit does a decent job Definitely. He seems to have a genuine rapport with all those he meets.
dandannieldanok Posted 21 September 2010 Posted 21 September 2010 Clemmit is a top reporter, always worth listening to the bits and bobs he does. Martin Keown bores me on football focus. Like Shearer he's incredibly dull, and not that insightful.
rico Posted 21 September 2010 Posted 21 September 2010 I think the more important question here is what is going on with Shearer's hair line - it is simply bizare (someone find and post a pic please)
Koke Posted 22 September 2010 Posted 22 September 2010 I'm glad I'm not the only one who picked up on his "No one really knows a great deal of him" comment. He doesn't offend me, but he is rubbish. When I heard him say that I gave the missus a side-eye look and facepalmed. The guy who wrote the article is right - if you have not heard of Hatem Ben Arfa then you have no business being a pundit.
Webbo Posted 22 September 2010 Posted 22 September 2010 Shearer is finding his way. He's certainly done better in the last six months than the previous 18 months but there's a feeling he's just waiting to get back into football. Even though he spoke sense most of the time, when the Beeb had him at World Cup 2006 he droned on for about 10 minutes every time Lineker asked him something.
davieG Posted 22 September 2010 Author Posted 22 September 2010 Read more: http://www.dailymail...l#ixzz10H1rvkgo Pundits don't have to be critical to be effective. They are there to point out things the naked eye doesn't see, the things viewers miss if they haven't played a thousand games. This was the point I was trying to make.
Fox You Forest Posted 25 September 2010 Posted 25 September 2010 Wonder if this article rattled him because he seems to be having a few problems with names tonight.
