cisono Posted 7 March 2007 Posted 7 March 2007 Moyles is a funny bloke. I don't mind listening to him when he's on. He's funny but also outrageous. If you ever took him seriously, then you'd think he's really bad....
Ultra Posted 8 March 2007 Posted 8 March 2007 This is the guy who skived off work after Leeds lost the playoff final. So if/when they are relegated, is he going to take a week off? Or better still, a month?
The People's Hero Posted 8 March 2007 Posted 8 March 2007 Jealous? Yes. Insanely. If it's lowest common denominator stuff you're after... well, I can see why YOU would like him anyway.
Wils Posted 8 March 2007 Posted 8 March 2007 Im undecided on the bloke,i was listening to Radio 1 for about half an hour this morning and he didnt make me laugh once. But i agree with what James said about seeing why people like him.
The Stig Posted 8 March 2007 Posted 8 March 2007 I actually think Dominic Byrne the News/weather/travel on his show is a comedy genius! couldn't agree more, the man is a comedy genius! i do like moyles and i think the show is fantastic, one problem though, I CAN NEVER GET THE BLOODY JINGLES OUT OF MY HEAD
Shum Posted 8 March 2007 Posted 8 March 2007 He's great - love his show and book. I have also met on a number of occasions when working at the BBC, quality guy!
The Stig Posted 8 March 2007 Posted 8 March 2007 He's great - love his show and book. I have also met on a number of occasions when working at the BBC, quality guy! The Book is very good as well, good read his unique style of writing makes me laugh
Suffolk_fox Posted 8 March 2007 Posted 8 March 2007 Stupid twat without a brain cell in his head. The final nail in Radio One's coffin. Giving them record listener figures, making it the most listened to program on British radio - not a bad coffin really... He is very funny, but he has a big ego and is very arrogant. That's why some people don't like him. That and envy. I think if you are good enough, you can be arrogant and have a big ego. I am great at my job, and I can be arrogant too. I'd love to have his job, and who wouldn't??? More, Moyles, more!
lildave3 Posted 8 March 2007 Posted 8 March 2007 Is it worth buying? Or just borrowing to read? I'd say so. It's not your typical autobiography and quite funny aswell.
Alexikokopops Posted 8 March 2007 Posted 8 March 2007 I don't particularly like or dislike him. I find his show boring though.
Finnegan Posted 8 March 2007 Posted 8 March 2007 I'd compare the humour of Moyles to the humour of AIDS. But, tbh, that'd be harsh on AIDS.
Nationwider Posted 8 March 2007 Posted 8 March 2007 ' date='Mar 8 2007, 07:42 PM' post='554784']I don't particularly like or dislike him. I find his show boring though. His show is so safe it's just dull. He's still very funny at times - he's very sharp when he can be arsed. But he surrounds himself with a dull, safe little crowd of talentless goons. He'd be better doing some late-night stuff where he can really let go, but as he earns around £700k a year in his current job, who wouldn't just sit on their 20 stone arse and do the same this day in, day out if they were him? He's also a shallow arsehole who wouldn't go to do a clip for Comic Relief in Africa because he doesn't like flying.
Daggers Posted 8 March 2007 Posted 8 March 2007 He's also a shallow arsehole who wouldn't go to do a clip for Comic ReliefAll of a sudden I've found a redeeming feature to the man...
cisono Posted 8 March 2007 Posted 8 March 2007 No comic relief? "We" have invited him to participate in a comic relief activity next week. I guess he won't accept then!!!
Flynny Posted 8 March 2007 Posted 8 March 2007 He's also a shallow arsehole who wouldn't go to do a clip for Comic Relief in Africa because he doesn't like flying. Why the fook should he? You can't expect people to do stuff like that. If they do, its to their credit, but half the people that do it are after media approval anyway, and more than half of the money gets spent in the UK. It's also one of the few days in the year when people think about Africa and it makes hardly a jot of difference. After it's done everyone sits back and feels good about themselves because they donated a tenner they could have spent on 'Michael Bolton - Greatest Hits' (blank disk) to charity, when in reality the efforts of the entire nation as a whole have done the equivalent of pissing on a burning house. I'm not saying it shouldn't be done at all, just that long-term, it makes little difference. Africa will develop in time, and the best thing we could do is break down trade restrictions and other barriers for their industial and economic development, instead of feeding a few villages for a few days and then forgetting about them for another year or two.
Daggers Posted 9 March 2007 Posted 9 March 2007 <<rant>> Wow! I think we just found your button I can not abide organised national charity events...no one gives any thought to anything beyond sitting in a bath of beans, it's a crock of shit. Your rant was spot on
Flynny Posted 9 March 2007 Posted 9 March 2007 I can not abide organised national charity events...no one gives any thought to anything beyond sitting in a bath of beans, it's a crock of shit. Exactly. I've heard of people planning silly stunts for charity and forgetting that they need to find sponsors until the day before. I'm sure there's people out there genuinely concerned and moved to donate money, but they're a minority. Live 8 was the same. Big sham.
fullPHILLmydreams Posted 9 March 2007 Posted 9 March 2007 I once rang the prat up and told him to shut up as he'd only played 3 songs in 2 hours. Never listened to him since, likes the sound of his own voice.
Nationwider Posted 10 March 2007 Posted 10 March 2007 I agree that Moyles isn't obliged to do anything - nor should he be. He made a big joke of not going to Africa on-air, which was tasteless though. I think he should have been honest, rather than hide behind the excuse of not caring to fly. If he feels that some arsehole in BBC middle-management is pushing him around, why not just say so? Perhaps he should have gone by bus? After all, he's spending the next week on a luxury coach larking about all-expenses-paid in the name of charity? Breaking down trade restrictions is a different issue to digging some wells. I don't think Comic Relief is a bad thing for failing to address the bigger issues. I've always subscribed to the theory that doing something is better than doing nothing. Even if that something barely scratches the sides of the problem. I don't really have a problem with people feeling good about themselves for donating money to charity either. It's human nature really. I donate a tiny amount of my earnings to charity and basically do so to soothe my conscience because (truthfully) I can't be arsed to do anything more proactive. I don't lie awake at night thinking about Africa, or battered wives. Virtually every single penny we earn is laid out in the pursuit of making ourselves feel better. Thats why we drive cars, eat at McDonalds and have centrally heated houses. We have a basic standard of living, and these things enhance our enjoyment of it. Charity is no different to a chocolate biscuit. Charities may as well tap into this. Surely the better you feel about doing something, the more money you'll give? Why not get people to hand over more of what they have by letting them have some fun? Everyone wins.... Money is raised to make a small difference to those who don't have the same quality of life as ourselves. We all continue as before, consciences suitably massaged. The great and good that we adore in the world of media and entertainment gain precious exposure. Moyles gets beer and people to gather fawningly around him. Do-gooders move one step nearer to their God/their MBE. For those that don't like this brand of fun, there's either direct debit, or plenty of other ways to spend money.
Jay Posted 10 March 2007 Posted 10 March 2007 got to be Fat **** I saw enough of Moyles years ago when he was the original Preston on Never Mind the Buzzcocks when he just sat their in a mardy because he didn't understand the humour and then when he got into the comfort zone on his own with a microphone be decided to launch a personal attack on everyone involved with the show that's not a comedy genius in my book!!
Poakey Posted 10 March 2007 Posted 10 March 2007 Moyles is ok but no comedy genius, its just background noise to me but ive read his book(got it for christmas for some reason) which is pretty good. Scott Mills, what a Kno b he is,"ello treacle!" whats that all about then?
