Father Ted Posted 30 October 2010 Posted 30 October 2010 I am getting increasingly worried that some of our young talents are not being utilised. With Sven not willing to give them a go, instead bringing players in from elsewhere he has still failed to negotiate for them to move out on loan to enhance their learning. This is not helped by the fact that we scrapped the reserve team. Players like Parkes, Schlupp and Liam Moore should be looking to go out on loan. We have such a successful youth academy yet only really Andy King has 'made' it recently, yet at other clubs they have plenty of younger players coming through.
Bugg Posted 30 October 2010 Posted 30 October 2010 From reading this board, Schlupp is a great talent. He must be good enough for the bench soon surely
lcfcsnow Posted 30 October 2010 Posted 30 October 2010 Going to have to be extra special now to get a look in with money being available. It's also difficult to judge who is ready when you've got no reserve team. The players you mention should be out on loan already, and what are the likes of Chambers and Craig King even doing here? They are too old for the academy, and nowhere near good enough for the first team. It's also a shame that the club sees extending an aging forward in Steve Howards contact more important than giving a chance to a Schlupp or John from the academy.
broughtonblue Posted 30 October 2010 Posted 30 October 2010 Agree with this post. It must be so disheartening for youngsters not only at city, but loads of other clubs who put cheap foreign imports before youth development. Imagine the feeling of signing for a pro club, go a full season undefeated in the youth leagues, then seeing mediocre players from all over the world coming straight into the first team squad. I remember a certain pundit saying you don't win anything with kids! What a fool he was made to look!!
sdb Posted 30 October 2010 Posted 30 October 2010 with an oversized squad and players coming in, it aint gonna happen. they need to go out on loan.
Jimmy Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 I've said it before the job of the academy isn't to win their league its ONLY purpose is to produce players for our 1st team, something it has been woefully inept at, since administration all they've produced are Logan, Stearman, Mattock, Sheehan, Porter, King, O'Grady with cameo's from Craig King, Eric Odhiambo, Ashley Chambers & Carl Pentney, with players like Billy McKay, Louis Dodds and Billy Kee now playing league 1 or 2 level who never even got on the pitch for us that's simply not good enough
dave the caveman Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 If they were good enough they would get a chance. If they don't get a chance that means they're not good enough. Simple as that.
JohnnieSpangles Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 Since the Brian Little days we have produced Julian Joachim, Emile Heskey, Richard Stearman, Joe Mattock and Andy King. The rest aren't worth discussing. Well I may have missed one but can't think who.
Sergio Hellings Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 Fact of the matter is you cant just thro in KIDs at the end of the day, a lot are not mature enought and in championship level they will get found out, im all for youth players i mean at the end of the day there Free and a good source of income, if there good enought and we can keep hold like King then great, if not let them go somewhere where they will be more appreciated at another club,

Sergio Hellings Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 Jordan wat a joke. playing for some wank side in Greece now
JohnnieSpangles Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 Jordan wat a joke. playing for some wank side in Greece now The boy played in the Premiership and although he came across as an Ashley Cole arrogant tvvat, you can't deny he made it. That said did he not spend most of his youth at the Villa
moseeds Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 Matt Piper was very promising. Max Gradel isn't doing to bad at all.
Sergio Hellings Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 Yeh matty was good pity his knees were like a pair of Chewed Oranges Jordan was there at villa at like 10 yeh but got his YTS with us from 16.
deep blue Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 Stef Oakes, OK, after being frozen out by Taylor (in the same way as Guppy) he sank through the leagues, but under O'Neill he established himself as a Prem quality player before O'Neill left. Anyone remember our 5-2 demolition of Sunderland in 2000, the only time Heskey & Collymore played together? Oakes came on as a sub and set up one goal with a sublime right-footed diagonal pass to the wing (though left-footed), and crowned his display by scoring the final goal. Ah, balmy days.
JohnnieSpangles Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 Yeh matty was good pity his knees were like a pair of Chewed Oranges Jordan was there at villa at like 10 yeh but got his YTS with us from 16. So it was primarily Villa then
Aeropars Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 Our academy is pants. King is the exception but generally nothing we have there is prem quality. Going out on loan to division 1 and lower is not going to have the makings of a prem player in my opinion.
Thracian Posted 31 October 2010 Posted 31 October 2010 Fact of the matter is you cant just thro in KIDs at the end of the day, a lot are not mature enought and in championship level they will get found out, im all for youth players i mean at the end of the day there Free and a good source of income, if there good enought and we can keep hold like King then great, if not let them go somewhere where they will be more appreciated at another club, Even King needed someone to show faith in him. I pleaded for him to be picked during our relegation season but Holloway would have none of it. The excuse you use is the same one lots of managers use and it's a pity the authorities won't take the initiative and make sure there's at least one Academy player involved every week. In the end they have to be thrown in - there's no magic day when they suddenly become big enough or old enough. The secret is to involve them gradually off the bench - rather like Abe who was no more an asset than any half-decent youth player for his first six weeks or so here. The difference is that everyone will accept a Japanese international being no good while he adjusts to playing in our first team but they'll expect a home grown kid to be good on the first day, or else. I've paid Eriksson a number of compliments but anyone can be successful with endless money. I'd like to see him actually make something of someone. And put young Schlupp on the bench. Introduce him gradually, the same as Abe and see how he fares with some quality players and expert help around him. Personally I'd have every faith in the lad. Not to be a shining light immediately - but to do himself and the team justice. Not that I think it will happen any more than when Pearson was here. Lose with established players and they might get away with it but lose with "risk" players and they're vulnerable. Another problem is that, ideally, its nice to blood the youngsters when there's something of a cushion, like a two-goal lead. But at Leicester we're hardly ever likely to have two goals advantage in a league game cos we go so defensive when or if we score. Consequently the games are always in the balance, increasing the downside of using a youngster. As for "Championship" level so far, from what I've seen it's embarrassingly crap. Preston, Hull, S****horpe...every one of them appalling. If Schlupp can't hold his own in their company he might as well pack off now. Perhaps you'll tell me what is so fearful?

Going out on loan to division 1 and lower is not going to have the makings of a prem player in my opinion. Presuming you're talking about Craig King I don't see him as anything exceptional. Good to have around, yes. Busy, willing, good skills, lots of stamina but still something of a cul-de-sac player 12 months ago, promising much but rarely shining on main beam. Schlupp, however, seems to have attitude and effect. He's always looked positive to me. This word "effect" is important. Andy King rarely went a game at any level without having some effect. Gradel was the same. And every time I've seen Schlupp he's either scored or made goals. But I'm doubtless wasting my breathe. Money will do the talking, and much more loudly than I.
Father Ted Posted 1 November 2010 Author Posted 1 November 2010 Just picked up on this: Reading 3-4 Leicester Jeffrey Schlupp grabbed a hat-trick and a 15-year old called Joseph Dodoo also scored. Wonderkid??
North-LondonFox Posted 1 November 2010 Posted 1 November 2010 I'm always surprised people aren't more positive about the academy. We clearly have some serious tallent at the club - for example, why do Spurs lend young players to sides in our division when our academy has been consistently beating theirs? We have the tallent - you don't go unbeaten all season playing against the top sides if you don't.......fact! Combining youth with experience is the key and we desperately need to get players into the first team set up. For those who said the academy is pants we brought through three players of Championship standard in the las few years in King, Gradel and Mattock. I am sure the current lot will yield similar results with the likes of John, Sclupp Parkes and Taft. For ****s sake lets try and be positive and appreciate the great set up we have!
FoxesFan123 Posted 1 November 2010 Posted 1 November 2010 Does anyone know what's happaned to Adi Yussuf?

North-LondonFox Posted 10 January 2011 Posted 10 January 2011 Anyone know when our next academy game is? Seems like the younguns haven't had a game in ages. Also Davie G/Anyone else - any idea why Jorrin John hasn't gone out on loan? He seemed to be going great pre-season/early season??
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 10 January 2011 Posted 10 January 2011 If the player is good enough he will get a game, in Sven we trust :sge: and im sure Mr E wouldnt miss a decent player in our youth ranks even if he has cash to spend, i think the only thing at the moment going against that is our need to get in the Prem asap therefore established stars will be usually picked against an untried hopeful even though as i said before generally if they are good enough they will get a chance eventually. Ive heard Schlupp is worth a game or two from the bench????
