surrifox Posted 12 November 2010 Posted 12 November 2010 is it me or does he go for clubs that are/look in trouble to make him look like the saviour? the only thing he has ever done right for us is sell us to some1 with a will to take us forward. the next big thread will be who will be the new chairman! It's all about finding value as Bates and Ridsdale are trying at Leeds and cardiff. Find a club with a big fan base and a bit of tradition preferably with a decent stadium (OK Portsmouth 's was and still is utter shite be he was just starting out). If the club is mired in debt, establishing a value is less problematic than buying a prosperous and profitable club where the vendors are looking for a decent profit on their shares. Take over the debt obligations and the grateful incumbent owners let the club go for nothing or vague promises of jam tomorrow. Then set about cutting deals to discount the debt with creditors who had looked like getting nothing under the previous owners and away you go . In most cases the largest creditor is for loans advanced by the owners to keep the club going (ie pay the wages to stop the players walking out on their contracts resulting in a loss of saleable assets)
MrSpaM Posted 12 November 2010 Posted 12 November 2010 Or maybe not tweet from Stringer ''I expect a statement from #LCFC very soon re Milan Mandaric. Could put some distance between himself and the Shef Wed story. Matter of time!'' STRINGERRRRRRRR!!!
Guest BlueBrett Posted 12 November 2010 Posted 12 November 2010 No surprise really. Potential money spinner for him. I might even buy them myself if I could afford it.
5waller5 Posted 12 November 2010 Posted 12 November 2010 I know this is an unpopular view as it provides a bit of balance .... but here goes with mine!!! He's a good solid businessman - he buys things on the cheap and sells at a profit - that makes him good at his job. He was the only one willing to take on our debt and be our "saviour" in a marketplace with no buyers you get a deal that you dictate, it's as simple as that - and I have no idea why he is slated for doing that. He has vast experience of turning around a club (financially) and that usually coincides with league position. He's very short term with his planning - he's impatient to turn his investment into profit - again i see no reason to not respect him for this - but it does mean that he is a little trigger happy with managers that don't seem to be fulfilling his ambition. He's 72 or even 73 - at that age I think i'd be a bit short term in my business planning!! He will spin things for his own PR. But he gets a rough enough time over being the only person willing to invest so he has to put some positive PR out there IMHO. He'll turn you around to a top half championship side within 2-3 years and will look to exit. Your club is a business to him and he'll be looking to make a profit from buying and selling it - if fans don't like that then unless they have the ability to convince lending institutions to underwrite £10ms of debt then they don't really have much room to object! I think he's better suited to SWFC at the moment - they are a big sleeping club - but maybe with more realistic expectation than LCFC who have tasted success more recently ... MM hasn't got deep enough pockets to match most of our fans ambition. He does seem to have found someone that does though - so fair play on that point too. I hope he's successful .... In my opinion he certainly was for us - he gave us stability (financially) and passed the baton to a more ambitious owner with deeper pockets after improving the club (as a proposition to buy).
ajthefox Posted 12 November 2010 Posted 12 November 2010 Ah what a shame. At least it was fun for the couple of minutes I took reading these posts up until the statement..
Jon the Hat Posted 12 November 2010 Posted 12 November 2010 The statement say nothing as usual. Doesn;t say he is not going to buy them, that they are not the righ opportunity, just that he is not in negotations to buy. Which just means they are not talking money at this time.
h1210 Posted 12 November 2010 Posted 12 November 2010 From Dan Roan's (who has usually got his finger on the pulse, certainly more connected than Stringer) Twitter earlier: 3 bidders now hoping to buy Sheff Wed, 1 of which headed by Leic Chmn Milan Mandaric - creditor Co-op Bank will opt for one in next few days
Guest BlueBrett Posted 12 November 2010 Posted 12 November 2010 Who would replace Mandy as chairman? I'm going to get in early and officially throw my hat in the ring right now.
MC Prussian Posted 12 November 2010 Posted 12 November 2010 This almost made my weekend. STRINGER!!! (More substantiated news next time 'round!)
MrSpaM Posted 12 November 2010 Posted 12 November 2010 Statement: http://www.lcfc.com/page/Home That statement dosnt tell us anything apart from "i've been talking to other clubs, and i could leave at any moment, but it'l get posted on the clubs website if i am leaving" He could just as easily give another statement tomorow saying he's leaving, he could be on the phone to the owls 2 seconds after writing the statement and he wouldnt be lying from a business sense.

Agreed. Pretty standard absolutely nothing-of-substance statement to make the situation completely no less clear than before the statement!
