artursteppe Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 18 league matches and between Howard, Waghorn, Fryatt, Gallagher, Vassell, and Dyer no-one has scored more than TWO goals from open play. None of them have scored more than twice ( other than via the penalty spot ) at all. Thank goodness Andy King has scored seven! In the whole league, ninety-odd teams, I cannot believe there could be any other team that does not have at least one striker who has scored more than two goals so far. Apparently we have created more chances and had more shots than anyone else in our league. If this was happening in Poland ( recent allegations of corruption in football there ) they'd say it was proof of match fixing!
cc_star Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 We've also created more chances than almost any other side. The strikers performance is nothing short of disgraceful, given the opportunities that Howard, Waghorn & Fryatt have had & Vassell is now getting. Looking at their scoring rate Vs chances they wouldn't even make squad players at most promotion hopefuls, but unless we climb the league we're not really an attractive place to come to, to be able to sign players better than them.
The Padster Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 Gallagher, Vassell, and Dyer Not strikers. Should be scoring goals? Yes, But Strikers ? No.
wattolcfc Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 We as a club have never been a very prolific side (as long as i've lived) but at the moment it is just crazy, hopefully bednar will be able to head in a few corners as we are in desperate need of some goals!!!
SMX11 Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 I seriously think we need to play Vassell down the centre with Howard/Bednar (if he comes). His pace could be devastating and I think he is wasted out on the wing because his crossing ability isn't great. Dyer needs to start on the LEFT and someone else of the right.
CelebFox Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 Can't believe how excited a lot of people got when we re-signed Waghorn, He's Shit! Nice bit of business there Steve Bruce

Tilley Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 As I said, Steve Bruce. He got money to put towards Gyan who is banging 'em in from the sale of a fat version of Ian Hume. Gallagher was a waste of just about a million pounds, Howard should be playing for Tamworth United and Fryatt looks like he's had a sausage roll too many. Vassell's the man and he needs pace and someone that can deliver a ball either side of him. Recall Dany and stick Dyer on the left. Bang 'em in for fun.

And Vassell has been a prolific goalscorer when? Oh yeah, I remember, he got 14 goals in a season 8 years ago and hasn't reached double figures in the last 5. Vassell is NOT the answer. Fryatt, Howard and Waghorn all have a better goal ratio than him.

All Howard does is win flick ons that go straight to the goal keeper, sits on his arse and throws his arms around with the hump and restricts us from playing football. Fryatt is slow, lazy and uninterested. On top of that, he needs 10 chances in a game to get a goal. Why do you think his best goal tally came in a division where you get chances for fun? and he still managed to miss sitters then! (Northampton at home springs to mind) Waghorn is just like Ian Hume. He'll run all day yet nothing really comes of it, people will love him because he looks like he cares but he's not going to get you 10 goals a season, let alone 20. We need to keep hold of Vassell and get two more strikers in, starting with Bednar. If you want supply and someone on the wings then Dyer HAS to get the nod over Gallagher, who I might add is also pretty fucking useless. I can't see why a genuine goal threat is out on loan at Scunthorpe, we could do with Dany's pace and power at the minute but instead we persist with Paul fucking Gallagher.
Haydos Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 but he's not going to get you 10 goals a season, let alone 20. Sorry for going a bit off topic, but this is the kind of fickle bollocks that is completely unwarranted. He got more than 10 goals last season, despite most of his games before xmas coming on as a sub. At the age of 19. Don't get me wrong, I'm not his biggest fan at the moment for obvious reasons but this just really bugs me about half the posters on here. Have a go, whatever, our strikeforce deserves it at the moment and I'm not too sure yet if he'll get 10 goals this season but please stop sprouting pointless crap not 1/3 into the season?

Haydos Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 I agree with your sentiments that he has been, on the whole, a let down so far this season. But it's easy to berate him in hindsight. He helped massively with the play-off push last season in the absence of fryatt and in the summer 2m didn't seem too much of a push for a player showing a lot of promise. Disappointed, yes. Writing him off in the next couple of seasons, no chance. Same as hobbs, capable, and needs a bit of time before he's declared shit by everyone.

Come on, you can't seriously be suggesting that we should be patient with young players who have shown a lot of promise when we are going through a stage of major upheaval. That would be so fooking sensible and we don;t have time for that. No, we need to get through as many old, past it England internationals as possible until we find one who can score. Heskey, get him in. Owen, get him in. Shearer, get him in. at young promising players! what the fook is the point when you can get jimmy greaves?
Haydos Posted 23 November 2010 Posted 23 November 2010 They have all been pants this season if we're honest so I'd snap your finger off for owen on a short term At the end of the day, strikers who can bag a goal every other game in this division are like gold dust so i'm not holding my breath just yet. I'm looking forward to january though. In Sven we trust
MPH Posted 24 November 2010 Posted 24 November 2010 I remember reading that our new Thai owners had signed a chinese player and a ' south Korean star' for January. I don't know who they are but I would be suprised if one wasn't a striker...
