bald reynard Posted 2 December 2010 Posted 2 December 2010 Still no news on Kirkland's back injury - Sven said he was having a scan on Monday and City'd know the likelihood of him returning to play then - that was 3 days ago and ..... nothing ! I don't know whether the delay is good news or bad. Related to that does anyone know if Ikeme actually DID go back to Wolves last week - he's still listed on the OS, but then they're never the quickest at updating. Interestingly, the OS has never listed Kirkland as a City player - did they know something ?! IF Kirkland is not going to come back and / or Ikeme has gone (which I hope), what do people think about getting in touch again with Rensing (and his agent !) - I know he mucked us about (though a lot of people do, when they can't decide between a couple of job offers, don't they ?) - but I think he's still available, having been finally turned down by Seville. The trial with us apparently went well and Sven was reportedly keen to sign. Now the loan transfer window's closed, I guess signing up free agents is the only way to get someone in ? OK, Weale had a decent game against the Trees, but I still think he needs competition for his place (and not just from 'Chalky' Logan !).
RizLCFC Posted 2 December 2010 Posted 2 December 2010 Rensing rejected our offer of a contract in order to move elsewhere in Europe, that didn't happen and now he's probably sitting at home thinking IF ONLY, well he can carry on with that thought because we don't want him here. He's barely played football in the last 3/4 years and hasn't displayed a good attitude towards us in his media interviews since he rejected us! Ikeme is crap and he's definitely gone back to Wolves. As for Kirkland, with his track record of injuries I font think he'll be back here anytime soon. Weale looked back to his best v Forest and Logan can happily keep the bench warm. I hope he leaves in January and we sign a good back up keeper young or experienced to replace him. I don't think we need 3 so-called first team keepers in our squad as we also have Ambrusics in the reserves!

Edmund Posted 2 December 2010 Posted 2 December 2010 Personally I don't think Weale ever lost his form. We conceded goals down to our piss poor defence under Sousa. Not forgetting Weale had an injury setback. Look at the Blackburn Vs Man Utd match, Robinson who's a top keeper conceded seven goals. No goalkeeper is invincible and their only as good as what's in front of them. His confidence obviously took a a battering but any keeper would suffer the same fate. I think his weaknesses such as long shots can be worked on although I think he's more unlucky than a flapper as he saves his fair share of long shots but obviously the ones he concedes are often highlighted.

Completely agree with you Stan. I think Weale improved because he knows he's not an automatic No 1. If Kirkland doesn't come back, Sven needs to get another goalie in, though that might not be possible before the January window opens. Perhaps Rensing, or that Cameroonian international who was on trial with us last week - Mayebi - might be worth considering again, if we can only look at free agents now? It is strange though, that there's been no word on the extent of Kirkland's injury.

The 29-year-old has suffered a reoccurrence of the back problem that has plagued his career and returned to parent club Wigan Athletic last Sunday for treatment. He underwent a scan on the injury, which he picked up in training at the start of the week, and Eriksson said the two clubs were holding talks about his prognosis. He said he would discover today whether Barwell-born Kirkland could resume his loan spell at his hometown club. "He is still in Wigan, but I think today we will find out more about when he will be ready to train, and when he might be ready to play," said the City boss. "He had a scan and we know for sure he is out this week but then we have to wait and see what answers we get. There are talks going on now about it. I believe it is a reoccurrence of the back problems. I am not sure but I think it is more or less the same thing. "I feel sorry for him and everyone felt for him. It is very unlucky. He was very down a week ago." Kirkland's injury leaves Eriksson with Chris Weale and Conrad Logan, and he said he had no plans to bring in a replacement. However, he said he could bring in a goalkeeper in an emergency should anything happen to either of them. "We are not going to take anymore in," he said. "We have two goalkeepers left and Weale is doing very well for us, so nothing will happen until January. "I think, according to the rules, if anything happens to one of them then we might be able to take in someone, but fingers crossed that isn't necessary." Eriksson revealed defender Miguel Vitor is fit again after a thigh strain and will be in the City squad for tomorrow's trip to Watford. There was further good news for City as long-term absentee Aleksandar Tunchev could return to full training next week. The Bulgarian defender has suffered nearly two years of injury hell after tearing his cruciate ligament in a FA Cup game at Crystal Palace, but has made great progress recently. "I think the plan is, from next week, he will start to train with the other players," Eriksson said. "Then it is a case of waiting and seeing when he is fit enough for a game, at least to be on the bench and get a few minutes now and then. "It will be fantastic for him to train with the team and to be part of the squad again." Watford have had more time to do their homework on City because of the recent big freeze. The Hornets have not been able to use their own training ground and have been using Arsenal's facilities and the local swimming baths. Kirkland then picked up a back injury in training and Weale retained his place in goal, producing some excellent saves as City beat arch rivals Nottingham Forest on Monday. But Weale said it wasn't a case of proving a point to Eriksson that he does not need another keeper. "It is up to the manager to concern himself with new signings," he said. "I don't feel I have anything to prove to anyone apart from myself. I am motivated to prove to myself things and try to achieve my goals, and that will reflect in my performances. The manager can make a decision from that. "I am not concerned about people's plaudits or criticisms. I am just interested in what I do, and I focus on that." While Kirkland's arrival did pose a big threat to Weale's position as City's first-choice keeper, he said he welcomed the arrival as the competition could make him a better goalkeeper. "As a human being, it is natural to be disappointed, but I switched off from that straight away and tried to understand how it would help me," said Weale. Hopefully he uses it as a platform to return to his form of last season. As for Rensing, he can fvck right off. He'd be a very good goalkeeper at this level but we were not good enough for him when he had the chance to be here so he can stay in the wilderness.

From what the BBC Final Score reporter said today, Weale AGAIN was at fault - for (at least) one Watford goal. He's dodgy - IF we have a choice (other than Logan or Ikeme), I'd take someone else - even Rensing (and I, for one, don't think he's a 'traitor', for turning us down in favour of a possible offer from a Spanish La Liga team - in the warm Med) ! I wait to be 'shot down' from those that, a) think Weale is a great 'keeper or, b) think that anyone who considers an offer from another club, shouldn't ever be given another chance by us.

No doubt, IF Hobbs was at fault (for one or more of the their goals), he'll be dropped again and Vitor will be back in. But I still think Weale is only a good Number 2 'keeper !

Someting needs to change, considering all the plaudits our defence gets particularly the loanees they're hardly consistent.

Mind you, he made a couple of decent saves towards the end of the second half. Still think we definately need a new keeper.

I don't care how he got on last season, cos that isn't this one. He'll make a great number two, cos he's playing like one at the minute! January will see a new keeper for sure. Weale's recent comments in the press about not being pressured or bothered by a new keeper are nonsense. Yes he played well in the Forrest game, but again his consistency, positioning, and communication is vitally poor at times, more often than not.
