Investment in January

Recommended Posts

Am I right in thinking that Top or Sven (or both) that money would be made available in January dependant on our chances of promotion. I'm wondering now if there might not be much investment other than maybe loans and hoping we might sneak it, but realistically reining it in for a proper go at it next season.

Or can we still do it with mega investment? :dunno:

Well if were going for it next season, which is more realistic, why not buy them now and give them half a season to bond- ready and prepared for next season!

we can talk about mega investment, but the cold hard fact is, who's going to come to us if were in 17/18th place.

old, past it, last big payday mercenaries, thats who.

The main problem is we're in a catch 22. The January transfer window is a sellers market for starters.

We need to decide wether or not we get better quality players albeit on loan or sign players permanently at an extorted price.

The latter is preferable as loan players will never be committed to the club for the long term.

If Owen looks fit and ready, I'd try and have a go for him. He may be injury-plagued but if he can get past that, there's no doubt he can finish- what we need imo.

Fergie said the other day that he wont be going anywhere. He has apparently looked really sharp in training recently and has a role to play for United in the second half of the season.

did anyone else hear sven mention he thought he had some transfers already arranged

Yeah but he's always coy about things like that no matter what it's about.

Pretty sure Owen's ruled himself out of a championship move and i'm pretty sure we can forget about high earning prem first teams that ****** on the phone in are rambling about (ie. Carew, Heskey)

Who would come who's definitely better than is already here?

Looking at the goals we're still shipping despite 3 loan signings at the back, 4 including the dreadful Kirkland, I don't have loads of confidence that signings are the answer.

We need to change our tactics, particularly away from home - I don't know if Sven's too set in his ways to try 4-5-1 (or its variations) in an attempt to keep things tight, and stop shipping goals but its shamefull how he keeps doing the same trhing time after time after time and expecting the outcome to be different

Oh, and don't cling to the 17th/18th place, most teams have two to three games in hand on us, so back near bottom 3 is probably more realistic

The owners (and Sven) need to stop obsessing with the 'big name' signing and focus on getting in younger, hungrier players, preferably ones with a bit of experience at this level.

He needs to sign players that could cut it in the Prem, which isn't an easy calibre to attract given our current position.

But forget the likes of Ljungberg for fucks sake.

We are not getting the most out of players we already have - and talk about new players coming in is not gonna be helping.

EXACTLY!!!! Finally somebody around here finally get's it

Look at QPR, the richest club in the world - they're not linked with ridiculous has-beens and journeymen, they're not out-spending the division throwing good money after bad, you can't buy a successful team at this level you have to build a team, which progresses together

This division is notoriously hard to get out of, the players need to be up for a fight every single game, how motivated are players like Carew, Thierry Henry, Ljundberg etc going to be in a freezing cold Tuesday night game away from home in the middle of Feb.

Sven is showing that he doesn't know this division, he needs to show flexibility in his tactics, particularly away from home, and he really needs to grow & progress the players on our books, like Hobbs & Waghorn, sure they have no right to play every game, but to be given the cold shoulder is naive if you later expect them to slot in and do a job for you.

bednar has had a nightmare at our club, but he is the closest thing we've had to a "proven" championship player and he's flopped. nothing is for certain here and i agree we probably will have to work with what we've got. the problem is that the pressure is really on at this club now. it seems like if we dont win promotion then the investors and sven will lose interest pretty quickly. if we focus more on building a great squad (which almost definitely needs to shed some dead weight) instead of promotion, then the results will follow. i dont doubt that sven is a clever enough bloke to learn and adapt to the style of this league. and if we do manage to get out of it, this season or next, then i fully believe that he has the intellegence and confidence to turn our poor fortune into something special.

Adam Hammill, Matt Mills, Danny Graham. That is all.

0 chance ( :crylaugh: ), 0 chance ( :crylaugh: ) and probably no chance.

You'd be more likely to sign Keith Treacy, Cureton, and Chris Morgan.

Whatever the level of investment in the club in January and beyond, I just hope to god it's not all spent on players either that Eriksson liked the look of 6 years ago, or are imported from the Far East. Unfortunately I have a feeling that there'll be plenty of both, which I can't see ending in anything other than millions pissed away for not much end product.

(AS PER MY LAST POST)

As I predicted Draw against Leeds,

As I predicted Defeat against Millwall.

I don't believe we can get promotion with Howard in the side, he is far too predictable and a non goal threat. I would put the Gallagher in the same category because of his inconsistency.

WE NEED A TOP CENTRE FORWARD!!!!!!

My main concern is with the defence as a group Naughton, Davies, Hobbs, Vitor, Cunningham, concede far to many goals especially away from home, Its going to be very interesting to see how Sven plugs the leaky defence because the goals against column needs to be addressed VERY quickly as its just not good enough to give us a top 6 finish.

I would send Davies back and bid for Villa's Richard Dunne, he has more experience and more of a "Steve Walsh" type centre half which is what we need.

Although Sven has tons of experience I am now unsure as to weather he can guide us out of the championship, we continue to see the same mild mannered easy going Sven. (And that seems to be reflected in his teams whoever he selects)

My Targets

Julian speroni = 0.5M

Richard Dunne (Capt) = 3M

Jimmy Bullard = 1M

Akos Buzsaky = 2M

John Carew = 4M OR Emile Heskey = 3M

Well said !

And don't forget we had a top 6 side last season, now we are talking about spending around 10 MILLION to get us up to where we were last season ((((JUST CRAZY :dunno:))))

BUT CRAZY OR NOT WE MUST SPEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
