Dan Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 Kop's barely better than the East Stand as a whole. Will NEVER EVER stand for 90, ever.
Kent Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 It's a bit of a catch 22 really, unless the guy behind you is standing up, you can't (and that's if you even want to, I'm sure some people wouldn't hence why they don't). Someone mentioned the back 3/4 rows that stand in the Kop and that's right, aside from that the only time when we stand up is for a late corner or chance our end.
blueharmie Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 ive stood in l1 back in the day all season and more rececntly at the back of K so if you get the right seats you can stand up. OH and the new kop? well thats a joke as its just a family stand.
Podge Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 I'm all for standing but only with bundesliga style standing areas. If we had those I would be one of the first in looking to make noise I am very wary of mass standing at stadiums especially since they're not designed for standing. I have family in Scotland and apparently there's a lot of talk about the Ibrox disaster of 40 years ago because of the anniversary game coming up at the weekend and we all know about Hillsborough and no one should leave for the football and not return to their families.

Podge Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 Neither of them was caused by standing. I was under the impression Rangers went to an all seater because of the Ibrox disaster
Fosse Boy Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 the kop doesn't stand up because there are lots of people who don't want to stand up for 90 minutes. simple. Correct. It's the English mentality. I'm all for standing but only with bundesliga style standing areas. If we had those I would be one of the first in looking to make noise I am very wary of mass standing at stadiums especially since they're not designed for standing. It's misconceptions like this that hold back the campaign for the reintroduction of standing areas. The naivety some people display with regards to what actually happened at Hillsborough is shocking.
blueharmie Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 if anything happens, people are going to get trampled on sitting or standing it doesnt matter, however none of this will happen its health and saftey gone mad.
Corky Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 Because the mentality has changed, it was only one corner of the old Kop that stood up, and they are probably in L1 or not attending anymore.
davieG Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 I was under the impression Rangers went to an all seater because of the Ibrox disaster Some stairs collapsed as Rangers fans were exiting a following a Celtic goal and almost immediately a Rangers equaliser, it did go to an all seater but the cause wasn't from standing
markbsac Posted 30 December 2010 Posted 30 December 2010 well get your selfs into N block then ..we love it there great atmosphere...good banter with the away fans.....sat in the kop as they call it now...never again
markbsac Posted 30 December 2010 Posted 30 December 2010 i grew up in the spion kop at filbo ...going from pen 4 to pen 2 as i got older....when full it was an awsome atmosphere but dangerous when it surged......i think the best years were pen 3 when pen 2 was a no mans land......some teams fans always tried to take the cop west ham always had a go as did chelsea and man u. we will never recreate this at the walkers.
h1210 Posted 30 December 2010 Posted 30 December 2010 Something that is often completely overlooked when this argument crops up every couple of months or so is the size of the old Kop at filbo. Particularly when it became all seater, there was probably about the same amount of fans creating the atmosphere as there is in L/K now. I've convinced myself that at least some of the problem in the Walkers is the blue hoardings around the top edge of the roof keeping the noise in (particularly from the back of the stands). I stand in SK1 and haven't even been able to hear the fosse boys recently.
smallpauldj Posted 30 December 2010 Posted 30 December 2010 our cop has been destroyed by our club and to some degree support, id love to blame the families or older generation but take a look around at away games and start the song Leicester Leicester Leicester and most join in its only stuff like when your smiling they dont belt out. ever since ive supported leicester ive been the cop i miss so much standing on my seat wondering after goal if i still have one to stand on. at the walkers ive been on row f in sk2 for ages now and to my right is none season ticket holders. at the leeds game in the first half when the ref had brought me to boiling point i decided to rant out loud. old man next to me with his wife and i can hear the wife mumbling away saying there is no need for that language already in a mood i told her the family stand is over there which you can imagine didnt go down very well, the old man understood that i was just frustrated but its just compelled me to move my season ticket where my loud voice can be used so either further towards the back or the the corner with the fosse boys. i miss not leaving a ground with a sore throat when we play away my voice has gone before i get in the ground if only we did away season tickets.
lcfc"weasel" Posted 30 December 2010 Posted 30 December 2010 If every person who wanted to stand stood towards the back there'd be a lot more standing in my opinion. I'm pretty certain there's a fair few who'd like to stand in the middle or towards the front of the kop and can't due to those around them, just move your seat to the back and you'll be able to stand.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 30 December 2010 Posted 30 December 2010 i know this probably wont happen but its a shame we cant get all the like minded "Want to sing their hearts out fans" all together somehow - i know everyone wants to sit in different parts of the ground but hey what if a large group of us could all decide to come together and sit in the same area - im sure it would improve the atmosphere???? Im fed up of sitting in G block where nobody else sings unless the ref makes a shit decision (like Leeds - not sending SCHMUCKEL off)

I sit in SK3 as I like the view from my seat but I'm surrounded by old folk who have no interest in singing at games. Furthermore, I don't stand as I'm quite tall and feel it's not fair on the guys behind me to obstruct their view as afterall they pay their money like me too and deserve the right to see the game. I'd be happy to relocate to the back of the stand to stand up and get involved in the chants. Any idea which rows at the moment are occupied by standing folk? I don't want to relocate and find I'm still surrounded by those who wish to sit all game.

The problem is if you move all of the vocal support to the back so they can stand it could have a detrimental effect on the atmosphere even if it meant that more people stood and sang. The grounds where the fans generate great atmosphere generally manage it because they make it feel as though the pitch is tighty hemmed in by a ring of bellowing supporters. Put all of the singers at the back and at pitch level the stadium will probably just feel dead. If anything those who stand and sing should move down to the front. Then we'd really get some atmosphere going! Plus I think people are more likely to be encouraged to join in if they can see the people who are constantly singing and standing rather than just feeling them as a potentially intimidating presence behind them. I realise it would probably upset a lot of people though.

Good shout, this could be done if the club segregated the stand into 2 tiers leaving 2 rows of seats empty so that those sat behind the standers could still see the game. As much as I'd like to see this happen there is absolutely no chance of the club doing this. You know that there would be a backlash from those ST holders who sit towards the front and don't wish to stand. In fairness the ground was poorly thought out in terms of planning. In the ideal world the ground would be rotated 90 degrees with the Kop where the east stand is and the away support occupying G1 and G2 next to Raw Dykes Road for easy police escort. Unfortunately we have what we have and we're just going to have to work with it. I do think that there are plenty of ways in which to improve the atmosphere at the ground but it will mean everyone working together and compromising to make this happen.

PP down to about KK back of SK1 or SK4 should allow you to stand up, not too sure what goes on in and around SK2 or SK3.

If we attack the Kop in the 1st half you may aswell go home to be frank. I feel round the top of SK3 we generate a bit of noise.
