stockyfox Posted 17 January 2011 Posted 17 January 2011 1. At the end of the game, in all probability, the Police will not allow Foxes fans to leave the ground until Man City fans have generally dispersed. This could be up to 15 / 20 minutes. This is apparently fairly standard practice whoever the opposition might be. I have only been to Eastlands on one previous occasion, funnily enough to watch a Cup-tie that was against, by coincidence, Leicester! Well, why else would I want to go? We drew 2 - 2 with goals from Paul Dickov and Marcus Bent. Afterwards, we had to wait what seemed an age before we were let out and then we were escorted by mounted police. 2. The Man City Supporters Club are having a bucket collection in the ground for Neil Young and also at a local pub, the Mary D's Bar where they are showing a video of the '69 Final from 6pm. Please note: I haven't managed to find out if this pub is 'Away Supporters Friendly' or not. UPDATE - AVOID! 3. Man City have asked their fans to turn the Stadium into 'a sea of red and black'. So does that mean that some of their team will see red and they will have a black day???? 4. Darius Vassell, if he plays, is at 11/1 to score the first goal and 4/1 to score anytime. 5. The weather is predicted to be fine with minimum temp Plus 2. 6. If you are going by train to M/c Piccadilly, then its a 20 / 30 minute walk to the ground or you can walk up to Piccadilly Gardens and get a 216 bus at the corner of Lever Street (about a 5 minute journey).

I would urge anyone thinking about possibly going to look into whether this is or isnt an away supporters friendly pub, to reconsider!! it is most definitely NOT away supporters friendly and gets extremely lively- if you went in you probably wouldnt come out again in one piece!
FuriousFox46 Posted 17 January 2011 Posted 17 January 2011 I don't think any pub in Manchester is friendly to anyone
lcfcadam Posted 17 January 2011 Posted 17 January 2011 Last time I was walking past Mary D's there was a pretty nasty confrontation between police and seemingly 2 Man City fans, didn't at all look like the kind of place for any non-hardcore fans, never mind away ones! I mean, would you?
fanoftheinvisibleman Posted 17 January 2011 Posted 17 January 2011 I never go in Mary D's myself, it is a bit of a hole if I'm honest ;D Re the 1st point, you'll be let out at the same time as everyone else. Even the United fans were in November.

AmyLGK Posted 17 January 2011 Posted 17 January 2011 Aw there are lots of friendly pubs here in Manchester! Just don't go to any shit holes - I mean REALLY - that pub above looks HORRIFIC!

I mean, would you? Always best to apply this rule of thumb when thinking about going into a pub: If it looks dodgy on the outside, it'll be 10 times worse inside!
MC Prussian Posted 17 January 2011 Posted 17 January 2011 Some football websites promote both the Townley and the Stanley pub. Also, the Printworks area - albeit a bit further off the Eastlands area - is recommended. I'm gonna start my day from the West Side, going from Castlefield/Deansgate all the way East.
lcfcadam Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 Thought I'd do a quick selection for anyone that's interested in the really great pubs Manc has to offer: 1. Marble Arch: Absolutely brilliant pub, if a tiny bit out-the-way (well worth searching out for the amazing beer brewed on site, and to experience an entire pub that's built at a tilt) 2. Castle Hotel: Another great, really "old-fashioned chic" pub, in the very coolest part of town. Where to go if you fancy trying a half-pint of the infamous Old Tom at 8.5%... 3. Circus Tavern: Has to be a great pub given its impossibly small size and masses of history. For years it literally served only Tetley on tap, think they've had to broaden their range a tiny bit for the modern drinker! + Loads more of course, but those three would make a terrific mini crawl for the discerning pub-ist
LE5 Chris Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 Just did a search on Mary D's and found the above Youtube link - am thinking it wouldn't be much fun for a Leicester fan!

tomtom Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 I went in Mary D's before we beat them 3-0.. avoid at all costs! Possibly the scariest boozer I've ever been in!

If there's a few of you and you're not knobheads then it's a great place to go. I certainly will be having a post work/pre game beer in there. Agree on the Marble too - it's amazing.
AmyLGK Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 I think you all should come up to Oxford Rd first then I can sneak out for a crafty drink before I go home.....!
yorkie1999 Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 If a kid asks you for a fiver to look after your car... pay him!
purpleronnie Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 If a kid asks you for a fiver to look after your car... pay him! Out of interest does that still happen?
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 Just did a search on Mary D's and found the above Youtube link - am thinking it wouldn't be much fun for a Leicester fan! Looks like an awesome place to drink beforehand if you are a Man City fan though. Even got someone on a microphone leading the chants.
lcfcadam Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 PS Sig is crap Have you actually experienced the sig?
Trav Le Bleu Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 Have you actually experienced the sig? Is he the new test driver on Top Gear?
lcfcadam Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 Is he the new test driver on Top Gear? I was referring my friend Kitchandro to the new signature of mine that he took the pleasure to insult - I'm guessing as a music man you've probably seen it already but if not, give it a stare and move your eyes a bit side-to-side...
Kitchandro Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 Have you actually experienced the sig? what is it some kind of optical illusion or something? Is he the new test driver on Top Gear?
lcfcadam Posted 18 January 2011 Posted 18 January 2011 what is it some kind of optical illusion or something? ^ Look at what I said above
