Uncle Albert Posted 15 February 2011 Posted 15 February 2011 A bit bored.... but my current World XI would be something like: Valdes your team lost all credibility after the first name, the Spanish 3rd choice keeper. Silly boy. Who in a Liverpool side horrifically mis-managed by Benitez and Hodgson has shone though? A Champions League winning manager with an average side proves Rafa didnt mis-manage Liverpool. Anyone who thinks Benitez is a "horrendous" manager is either using excessive hyperbole or is an idiot. He certainly isn't a world class manager but you don't get to two Champions League finals with, let's face it, a very average squad and deserve to be ridiculed. From the outside looking in it seems like Benitez has horrendous people management skills and a fairly sloppy eye for business but what he does have is an exceptional knack for setting his side out to be successful for important, one-off-games. He will never be a Mourinho or a Ferguson, or even a Wenger, but you'll find few better tactical managers in the sport. I've long felt (and seen it written) that he'd be an excellent international manager and if he could avoid falling out with any stars of his playing pool I think he probably would. Amen. Current "World Eleven" would have to be.. Casillas Maicon Puyol Vidic Cole Gerrard Iniesta Xavi Fabregas Messi Ronaldo Thats when all fit but are currently playing.. some big dicks left out.

Dickie Greenleaf Posted 15 February 2011 Posted 15 February 2011 Not to mention the lack of a centre forward
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 15 February 2011 Posted 15 February 2011 *And Maicon has been exceedingly average for the best part of half a year now.

CosbehFox Posted 15 February 2011 Posted 15 February 2011 I'm sorry, but that is simply not true. He is nowhere near a 'horrific' manager. He's one of the best tactician's but one of the poorest man managers. It's what happens when someone concentrates on numbers and patterns like Benitez's background was.
shen Posted 15 February 2011 Posted 15 February 2011 He's one of the best tactician's but one of the poorest man managers. It's what happens when someone concentrates on numbers and patterns like Benitez's background was. Do you have any insight on his so-called 'man management' skills? Can you tell me how he has such a brilliant managerial record with unfancied sides? And don't tell me that it's "only down to this tactical ability", because you don't produce results without a motivated side.
Haydos Posted 26 April 2011 Posted 26 April 2011 Bench: Neuer There is no way Manuel Neuer is the second best 'keeper in the world, he's almost embarassingly over rated. For me, as well as many other observers, he's not even the best in Germany. A more than adequate shot stopper, yes, but his commanding of his area leaves a lot to be desired, and he's prone to lapses of concentration. Rene Adler is a far better rounded goalkeeper than him, much more complete. Eat your words. EAT THEM!
Langston Posted 26 April 2011 Posted 26 April 2011 Eat your words. EAT THEM! Eat my words?! Err, why? There was nothing I said there that has been disproved since, and, in fact, I never actually rated Neuer as a poor goal keeper. Adler is still much more rated in the German game, and Neuer has still been error prone in the Bundesliga. One swallow does not make a summer my good man. Pipe down.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 26 April 2011 Posted 26 April 2011 Langston has a point to be honest, man. *And after scanning this thread, his Benitez bashing is nothing short of heroic!
Haydos Posted 26 April 2011 Posted 26 April 2011 Langston has a point to be honest, man. *And after scanning this thread, his Benitez bashing is nothing short of heroic! Nah, it's fair enough, I just have an unconditional love for the man. Epic Schmeichel-esque style that's great to watch from a neutral point of view. Been following him for a while and while he may be prone to errors the amount of world class saves he pulls out the bag is borderline unfair.
