Brown Fox Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 Abe over Oakley all day. Vassell and Dyer is tricky though. Vassell down the middle is a completely different player than when he is on the wing but with Vassell on the wing you always think he can get past anyone and do something with his skills but he doesn't tend to. 3 goals in 3 games down the middle shows why he's better there but he can't take Yaks place. But I'd actually start Dyer over Vassell tomorrow because Dyer seems to rip it up against that McNaughton at Cardiff.

Whoever gets the nod I just wish they would take the full back on more and get some crosses in rather than cutting inside, they both have decent pace and with the yak in the middle and king running on I think there is a lot more potential to do some damage than cutting inside.

Whoever gets the nod I just wish they would take the full back on more and get some crosses in rather than cutting inside, they both have decent pace and with the yak in the middle and king running on I think there is a lot more potential to do some damage than cutting inside. i think vassel and oakley are weak links at the moment, vassel has pace but no skill the only person he fools with his terrible step overs is himself and ive not seen 1 decent pass from him yet. oakley is a good leader but has lost his legs and makes to many mistakes, would be nice to find a place for waghorn but at the mo think he might have to wait as i dont think you could play him out wide

Not to say that I don't like Vassell but as Brown Fox says he is much more effective playing in the middle. It baffles me how underated Dyer seems to be recently. Abe over Oakley is a bit of a no brainer, as Oakley can no longer keep up with the quality of our current squad.
cc_star Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 Vassell has got more & more ineffective with each game that goes by. His goals per game ratio is getting poorer all the time too. TBH I can't see the point in him starting until he can find the form he bought to the club when he first came I know it's because he's been pushed out wide due to the Yak coming in, but I can't see the point in picking someone who's largely ineffective. A game or two on the bench may do him good. Oakley came in for Abe because he was getting very leggy & opposing players were getting past him more & more often. I think Abe can come back in but Oakleys done a good job & set a couple of goals up whilst Abe has been rested.

Vassel over dyer because even though dyer has got more pace Vassel's distribution, touch and strength is better than dyers and when he cuts inside looks like he's going to score every time. Vassel works more for the team and if we need pace over the top we can swap the Yak and Vassel and still have 3 subs. But Dyer to come on as a sub to run at the defenders if he can get slightly stronger on the ball/ or slightly better distribution. Distribution is probably the key because Gallagher and Vassel have very good distribution and that is what keeps Dyer from a starting place, we get goals out of nothing from moments of magic and they can both deliver this and can also deliver much better crosses to the Yak than dyer can

STUHILL Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 Weale, abe in!! Dyer is a tougher choice. I would start him over Vassel for the simple reason he may be fresher and has a bit of a point to prove to regain his starting place. Wouldn't be that bothered if Vassel starts though as on his day, he can be very good for us. He runs the channels very well and stretches the defence and actually wins headers too. He needs to up it though

He's not been as good out wide as he has in the middle but imo he is better than Dyer or Waghorn out there too. I think using Dyer as an impact sub is the better way around because on technical ability Vassell is miles better than Dyer.

I'm still a big believer that Dyer is best as an impact sub, his pace can cause tired defenders big problems especially when we'll now have The Yak looming in the area ready for a pass from him. Plus, I think Dyer has gradually gone down hill in the last 4-5 games...his control is shocking at times, has the ball taken off him too. Vassel is pretty strong on the ball, can dribble and turn past defenders...to me, causing more problems to teams than Dyer ever has. Abi over Oakley. Purely because Abi seems to get into some nice positions compared to Oakley and he gives 110% each match. I'd imagine he'll be pumped for Cardiff.
