Kingylcfc Posted 16 March 2011 Posted 16 March 2011 when sven says a 'big name' signing....in my opinion, Diomansy Kamara doesn't fit the bill, i'm thinking a big name player is someone like a Michael Owen or a Shaun Wright-Phillips
millzi Posted 16 March 2011 Posted 16 March 2011 Shaun Wright-Phillips a "BIG" player, doubt he's ever heard that before Sorry, couldn't help myself
ForzaLeicester Posted 16 March 2011 Posted 16 March 2011 Shaun Wright Phillips? You want your head looking at if you honestly think he will drop to the championship.
m00nie Posted 16 March 2011 Posted 16 March 2011 Shaun Wright Phillips? You want your head looking at if you honestly think he will drop to the championship. actually theres alot more chance of him doing it than some of the other names in here....
ForzaLeicester Posted 16 March 2011 Posted 16 March 2011 The lad plays for England, sure he's going to better his career coming down to play the Doncasters and Scunnys of the league, I heard Reo- Coker anyway
muzzy1981 Posted 16 March 2011 Posted 16 March 2011 Whether we get big name signing (striker) hopefully it will fire a rocket up the Yak's Arse!!! and get him bagging!
OmnipresentSam Posted 16 March 2011 Posted 16 March 2011 The lad plays for England, sure he's going to better his career coming down to play the Doncasters and Scunnys of the league, I heard Reo- Coker anyway Man City aren't fans of loaning out their players to Premier League clubs though, a la Cardiff and Bellamy. I am not a huge fan of SWP's, but I could see him tearing up the Championship. Really can't see him joining though.

Simo86 Posted 16 March 2011 Posted 16 March 2011 I may be wrong, but could you tell me the last time Shaun Wright-Phillips for an England call-up? Probably world cup 2010 in June, that was ages ago!!!
millzi Posted 16 March 2011 Posted 16 March 2011 Probably world cup 2010 in June, that was ages ago!!! So whoever said he's an England international isn't really correct. I also can't particularly remember him making any appearances at the WC, maybe one or two off the bench..

I also can't particularly remember him making any appearances at the WC, maybe one or two off the bench.. Why's that then, he hasn't been in the last 4 squads but he does have 36 caps and he hasn't retired from international football so why shouldn't he be classed as an international?
Bluefoxtim Posted 16 March 2011 Posted 16 March 2011 If Steve Guppy was classed as an England International, SWP can be classed as an England legend.

Hey Gupps had a higher crossing ratio than Beckham when we were in the prem, he had a schweet left boot. Couldn't take anyone on for toffee mind but I guess neither can becks!
shen Posted 16 March 2011 Posted 16 March 2011 For some reason I thought he moved to Palace very temporarily before Villa signed him. I was obv wrong, except for where I said he's past it, because he is way, way, way past it. Past it, but he's nowhere near useless. He's got a goal and an assist in the three games he's appeared in since New Year. He doesn't play many games admittedly, but that just means Villa might be interested in letting him go to get match practice. Even if he doesn't have the legs, he still has the skill I should shut up about Pires, before I start convincing myself that he's a genuine target.
Heskey2011 Posted 16 March 2011 Posted 16 March 2011 What if its someone who can do a better defensive job than Abe & really takes charge of the game, or someone who can create better than Wellens, or someone who arrives late in the box like King does, but has more than King in other areas of the game. I like our midfielders, but I'm not keen on our formation when we don't have the ball - against better teams either the formation or the players aren't quite up to the defensive side of their game. We have 3 people in the middle when other teams do that same job with 2 players, not 3. I think our midfield could definitely be improved on, but perhaps other areas are need of more attention - like Vassell who isn't coming up with the goods in any area of his game, if the ball comes to him our attacks break down & his scoring record is dreadful. ps. Not aimed at you, but everyone mentioning him, hasn't Pires already played for Chmp side and done bugger all. He's well past it. and I wouldn't class Kamara as a BIG signing worthy of generating this much hype. Impossible
muzzy1981 Posted 16 March 2011 Posted 16 March 2011 Anyone seen his website www.diomansykamara.com/ Bit of a legend in his own house by the sounds of it. Why does he need a website, what is he selling? Sorry find it hard to be believe he has a global fan base
cc_star Posted 16 March 2011 Posted 16 March 2011 Looks like Sven's target is Kamara, his £25k/wk wages were a sticking point. Whilst he'd add some more quality to our squad, he's not what I'd consider a big name nor what we need to grab these 7 wins. Saucy source: My dad, who read it/heard it somewhere other than here
blueredswed Posted 16 March 2011 Posted 16 March 2011 Looking forward to see who he is. And who it will bee just accept TOPS choice it´s not me or Sven it is up to ...... Top to say to :sge: asking
millzi Posted 16 March 2011 Posted 16 March 2011 He came on in the last England freindly. That's doubtful, he wasn't in the squad to play Denmark, I checked earlier.
wattolcfc Posted 16 March 2011 Posted 16 March 2011 That's doubtful, he wasn't in the squad to play Denmark, I checked earlier. I was there in Denmark and can't remember him playing.. although I was rather intoxicated!
